Charity's overwhelmed by how happy Debbie is when she arrives at Tug Ghyll with Noah on Christmas morning. Charity and Cain make an effort to be civil with each other and reluctantly comply when Debbie announces that they're all going to Wishing Well for Christmas dinner. Cain receives a stark warning from Zak to be on his best behaviour but when Chas turns up for a festive drink, Cain's seething and in turn, ignoring Debbie's plea not to start an argument.

Despite a growing concern about how everyone will accept their engagement, Cain surprises Charity with a plastic engagement ring. Later, Debbie, Zak and Lisa are left stunned when Cain and Charity announce their plans to tie the knot. Shocked but supportive, the Dingles head to the pub to celebrate.

A curious Katie attempts to speculate with a nonchalant Ryan about Maisie's disappearing act the previous night. Natasha, however, interrupts the conversation and insists that the pair have a drink. Later, as they make to leave, Katie sends Ryan to collect her jacket from the office and Maisie slopes in behind him, closing the door.

Natasha is delighted when she spots a 'To Let' sign outside Tenant's Cottage and decides to bid Faye farewell and good riddance. Inside, Mark is mortified to see his wife knocking and quickly escapes through the back door as Faye answers the front. After an exchange of sarcastic niceties over her imminent departure, Faye's relieved to realise that Natasha's still none the wiser about her affair with Mark.

Ryan's keen to stay away from Maisie on New Year's Eve but is put out when he fails to persuade Katie to go to Sheffield with him for the night. In the pub, Maisie's in a vile mood and seethes when Katie confides that she's going to ask Ryan to move in with her. Katie's delighted when Ryan says 'yes' but it's clear that he's all too aware of Maisie's presence.

Ryan's rattled by Maisie's allegation that he's only moving in with Katie to get at her and he's further unsettled when she makes suggestive comments in front of Katie. Ryan tries to apologise but Maisie asserts that he should have told Katie that he liked someone else. When Ryan ignores her, Maisie vents her anger at Faye, calling her pathetic for thinking she had a chance with Mark.
