Nicola is determined not to let Neil out of her sight and insists that he join her for dinner later in the day. But as Syd warns Neil that she can be a bit of a handful, he makes it perfectly clear that he is just out for a bit of fun and isn’t looking for a serious relationship. And Steph comes to his rescue when she ignores Nicola's words of warning to stay away and returns home slightly worse for wear – interrupting Nicola and Neil. He's grateful for the diversion and makes a sharp exit. Viv is revelling in the gossip following Zak’s departure and speculates on why he would abandon his family.

Louise starts to feel pressure as the police begin asking probing questions, Steph and Nicola's game of wits escalates and Tricia plays a trick on Marlon to make him break his resolution.

The cracks are starting to appear, as Louise is under immense pressure from the police. They suspect murder and begin to look for a motive. Louise is terrified as they ask her to meet them at Mill Cottage for further questioning. But just the thought of returning the scene of the murder is enough to make her physically sick. As the police remove the cordon, the cottage is exactly how they left it and bitterly cold. Blood is still on the stairs, and in her mind's eye the body is still in a dishevelled heap at the bottom - will she ever be free of his haunting image?

Jarvis gives Len a helping hand in preparation for the dance competition, and Rodney takes matters into his own hands in order to rid himself of Steph.

Betty is intrigued by her Edna's stubborn enthusiasm for the dance contest and it is clear she is more determined than ever to win it. Finally admitting her reputation, and money, is on the line, Edna is even prepared to put her strong morals aside to get the better of Viv Hope - putting Len under more pressure than ever! Len thinks all the extra tuition has paid off until his confidence gets the better of him as he tries a tricky move and his ankle buckles - throwing them both to the floor!

Len hasn't got the heart to tell Edna he won't be competing in the dance competition and her archenemy, Jarvis, will be taking his place! He tentatively tries to broach the subject, but at the first mention of Jarvis's name Edna begins spitting feathers! Cowardly assuring Edna he is fine to compete, Len tells her to get changed as they are going to the competition after all! Len fears for his life, as he anticipates the wrath of Edna when she claps eyes on Jarvis with his dancing shoes on. Will Edna go through with the competition, or will her stubborn streak prevail and let Viv win the competition?

Steph's car boot sale is a roaring success while Rodney's antique barn is empty. He is miffed as there isn't a soul about, compared to the hustle and bustle that is gathering around the stalls in the street. Danny and Steph are having great fun parting people with their cash; they agree to bury the hatchet and let bygones be bygones. Rodney is forced to swallow his pride and accept that Steph did enhance his profit margins. They agree to work with each other again - with Danny in tow.

Chris is growing increasingly annoyed with Jack for being too easy with Wilf – his tenant farmer. With his patience running out, Chris sends Jack back to the farm with the threat of eviction if Wilf doesn’t pay up. But Jack is stunned by the poverty that greets him, and it soon becomes apparent that Wilf is struggling to keep his head above water. He has been struck by the foot and mouth epidemic, and his wife has left him. It comes as some surprise to Chris, then, when Jack returns with a wad of cash from Wilf – but all is not as it seems.

Jack tells Alan about Wilf's dire financial situation, Alan tells him that Home Farm have become far more harsher since he was estate manager. Their discussion turns into an argument and Jack accuses Alan of siding with Chris. Ollie gives Danny a telling off for leaving his plate out before leaving for college. Chris visits Wilf and tells him to pay up or meet the bailiffs. Terry arrives to give Louise some moral support.

He also says that if she can just get through this meeting with Dove then all this could well be over. Charity mentions to Chris that Chloe didn't come home last night. Chris tells her that Jack has resigned. She is angry but Chris is convinced Jack will ask for his job back soon. Terry opens the kitchen door to Dove - she has come to ask him some questions.

Terry thanks Charity for helping Louise get out of trouble with the police yesterday. Brian calls around to Butlers Farm and informs Stephen and Wilf that because he can't pay rent, Brian will have to issue them an eviction notice. Scott arrives to pick up Zoe. Emily and Paddy are nervous about talking to Debbie about the pig. They chicken out about telling her. Robert teases Debbie, Ollie sticks up for her but Debbie fights back. Zoe takes Scott to the baby shop, saying the social worker thinks that it would be nice for her to buy things for the baby despite her being set on not keeping it. Tricia is shocked to hear that Louise is giving Mill Cottage to Ray's brother. A shop assistant mistakes Scott for Zoe's baby's father. Brian and Katie begin packing. She finds her baby clothes and gets upset.

With no help from Scott, Zoe has made it to the hospital and is heavily in the throes of labour. With Chris and Charity on their way, Chloe berates Scott for letting them down. Not wanting to raise suspicion he agrees to come to the hospital straight away. In the delivery room the midwives check Zoe's records noting her schizophrenia with some caution. As the baby is born, Zoe tries to stay detached from it but can’t help feeling some anxiety as it struggles to breath and when the midwife suddenly thrusts in to her arms and asks Zoe what the baby is called, she finds herself naming her daughter Jean after her mother.

Tricia's resolve is strengthened and hatches a plan to give Marlon the surprise of his life, while Paddy and Emily struggle to believe anymore of Debbie's stories.

Andy's birthday night out goes badly wrong, Tricia throws Marlon off the scent as she continues to plan their secret wedding and Zoe takes action as her mental health deteriorates.

Katie is still shaken after being mugged and to make matters worse, tension is building between her and Andy as the idea of living together is taking some getting used to. Their latest argument is interrupted by a knock at the door, and Andy is stunned to see Stephen has retrieved Katie's mobile from the gang, explaining he knew the lads who stole it. But Andy is furious to discover that Katie lied to him and knew all along that Stephen was involved in the mugging. As a few home truths are aired, it becomes apparent that, although they are engaged and living together, there is a lot they don’t know about each other.

Lisa doesn’t thank Cain for reminding her that they could lose their house if they don’t keep up their mortgage repayments. But the bank isn’t the only ones who have got their eyes on their land. Chris is secretly hoping the Dingles can’t repay their debts as he has plans to develop their land, along with Pollard’s Factory and the Reynolds house. Lisa is forced to go on a begging mission to Home Farm. She pleads for extra time to settle their debts, leaving Charity frustrated as the pressure mounts from Chris. Expecting the third degree from Chris,

Cain is furious after Charity serves the eviction notice on the family and vows to sort their debt to the Tates out once and for all – without handing over a single penny. Having been betrayed by his own blood, he decides to pay Charity a call intent on getting back the deeds back to the Dingles home. But when Cain barges in, throwing his weight around, Charity is in no mood to be threatened. Playing him at his own game, she suggests he keep his mouth shut - unless he wants his involvement with Angie’s death to be common knowledge. Cain is forced to back-down, knowing full well that Charity could have him arrested at a moment's notice. Back to square one, he is forced to come up with another tactic to save the house.

Unable to pay their debt to the Tate's, the Dingles' fear nothing short of a miracle will help save their home. Cain’s desperate to stop his family from being evicted and thinks his luck is in when he unearths a skeleton from Charity’s past. With blackmail in mind, the fact that she’s a Dingle by blood means nothing to Cain who intends taking drastic actions to reclaim the deeds to the house. Later at Home Farm, Charity can’t believe her ears, when Cain drops the bombshell. With Chris in earshot, she is forced to comply with his demands, hoping he won’t learn her dark secret. Triumphant Cain leaves Home Farm issuing Charity with an ultimatum: she has 24 hours to do the right thing.

Charity confides in Zoe as she tries to make sense of Cain’s revelation. She's finding it hard to cope with the pressure she's under. Unable to believe Cain's accusation, Zoe tries to brush it off as scare tactics – but Charity is not so sure. The more she thinks about it, the more she is convinced Debbie could be the daughter she gave up nearly 13 years ago! Having built a marriage based on trust, friendship and business, Charity fears it may all come crashing down if Chris learns the truth about Debbie.

Lisa is still puzzled and overwhelmed that their financial worries have dramatically disappeared overnight. With the deeds to their house back in safe hands, things are beginning to look up. Meanwhile, at Home Farm, Chris is none the wiser as Charity does a great job of concealing her turmoil. He's furious, though, when he learns she's given the Dingles back their land. Chris's attempt to intimidate the Dingles backfires on Charity, when Cain decides to tell Debbie her real mother is closer than she thinks. Debbie arrives at Home Farm in a desperate bid to meet her real mother.

While Chris and Charity tear each other to shreds, Zoe sits with Debbie in the next room at Home Farm. Zoe does her best to cover for Charity and diplomatically answers questions about why Charity might have lied. Debbie's world has just fallen apart, and Zoe is left trying to pick up the pieces. Charity finally comes to her senses and realises she can’t just throw Debbie out – she deserves an explanation. But when Debbie asks questions about her father, it is all too much for Charity, and she quickly tells her he is dead.

As the dust settles at Home Farm, Chris panics, convinced Debbie won’t keep Charity’s secret. Determined not to let the revelations of the past days rock his world, he demands to know what Charity is going to do about the situation. But Charity is determined to get Debbie out of her life as quickly as possible as she has no maternal feelings what so ever. She knows she will have to tread carefully or the whole village could find out! Having agreed to meet Debbie and take her out for a drive, Charity puts on a brave face, as she prepares to let Debbie down gently.

A hangover from hell doesn’t help his paranoia, as Marlon is more convinced than ever that Steph is up to no good, as she kept trying to get him drunk last night. Confiding in Paddy, Marlon expresses his fears that Steph is trying to split him and Tricia up again. Paddy does his best to reassure his friend, that although Steph is acting out of sorts, he has nothing to worry about and persuades him to keep his trap shut for now!

When Debbie suggests they ask Charity to baby-sit, however, Emily can’t help but feel jealous but knows she is in no position to object. Debbie is elated when Charity agrees to come over for the evening - bringing along Chris who is warming to the idea of family life. But how will Emily react after returning from her evening out to discover the cosy Tate family scene in her own living room?

Ali's party exceeds everyone's expectations - especially his parents', Cain comes to Debbie's rescue when her party plans lead her into danger and Danny's altruistic deed infuriates Nicola.

Although Emily is relieved that Debbie is returned safely from her ordeal, she is furious that she sneaked out to the party in the first place. Emily points out that if she hadn’t been rescued when she was, anything could have happened. Worried that Debbie is out of control, she grounds her for her stupidity. Concerned about the events of the night before, Charity calls round to see Debbie. But with tensions high she and Emily are soon at loggerheads as to the punishment that should be doled out to Debbie. Paddy is confused by Emily's harsh actions, questioning whether she grounded Debbie deliberately to stop her seeing Charity.

Emily stands firm by her decision that Debbie would be better off with another care family. Sure that she has let Debbie down and unable to withstand the pressure of competing with Charity for her affection - giving her up seems the only option. But Emily still dreads her reaction when she tells her the heartfelt truth about her future - convinced her departure will ultimately lead Charity to loose interest as well. Meanwhile, Debbie is upbeat telling Paddy and Emily how much she enjoys spending time with her real mother.

Bad news travels fast in Emmerdale and it doesn’t take long for Debbie’s departure to reach Charity at Home Farm. She berates Emily for her action demanding to know why she let Debbie go back to a care home. Emily is distraught as she admits the situation became unbearable and care was the only option. Although Charity has never wanted to play happy families, she is furious that the decision has been made without her consent and sets about taking the issue up with social services. Syd is confused by Mack's almost nostalgic manner towards him, but brushes it off as a patronising comment.

Edna is devastated to learn that Mack has done a runner after playing her for a fool! She is forced to admit to herself that, despite her benevolence toward him - she always feared he was capable of this.
