I find it so hard to believe they would go through all the trouble of kidnapping a citizen of a foreign country on a cruise ship, smuggling her off the ship, and then managing to keep her hidden all this time just so they could use sex traffic her. There’s so much risk going on there for what seems to be pretty low reward. Did she fall overboard? Maybe but I’m not sure at all. The suspicious people on the ship she was with might have been involved but I highly doubt they sex trafficked her. I don’t believe she is alive, either.
What do you all think?
Cold, stilted and irritatingly obtuse
I went into "The Killing of a Sacred Deer" knowing that it was based on an ancient Greek tragedy which I had not read and that the trailer was ...pretty weird. So I was braced for something more auteur and symbolic that I would have to retrospectively interpret and extract meaning from, not something immediately tangible or obvious.
However, try as I might, there was not one meaningful thing I could extract from this ponderous, drawn out mess of a film. I am not familiar with Yorgos Lanthimos's previous work -I have not seen the Lobster- but I'm told TKOASD is very much in keeping with his stylistic quirks; Emotionally vacant, surrealist art installations masquerading as film.
A brief, spoiler-free summary of the plot: A heart surgeon, his wife and two children are befriended/stalked by a mysterious teenager who's strange mannerisms belie a dark, twisted plan and a destructive supernatural power. The plot and its fantastical leanings didn't bother me. What did bother me was the awkward execution.
The cast of one dimensional archetypes all ramble their lines in a robotic manner, their eyes fixed in a detached, glacial stare. It is impossible to connect with any of them on an emotional level, even when the stakes rise and certain characters are met with horrific choices, the focus seems to be less about conveying the emotional depth that a real person might plunge to in those circumstances, and more about favoring the artifice of the shot. Barry Keoghan's Martin -the malevolent teenager stalking the family- is perhaps the only character served well by this robotic approach. His monotone aloofness, combined with his shifty vacant eyes make him feel all the more disturbing and unpredictable.
Colin Farrell on the other hand, gives one of the most stultifying performances of his career. His character, Stephen, a heart surgeon and father of two, is so utterly devoid of pathos, employing his frowny face and flat middle-class Dublin cadence to every line, he fails to make Stephen believable or likable, even when he's blubbering snot all over himself in one incongruously candid scene, it feels artificial and contrived, as in the next scene he goes right back to being a cold, miserable android again.
Nicole Kidman does a better job with her material as Stephen's wife, at least her delivery is the least morose of the lot, but her performance is still frustratingly restricted in places where it should be amplified, making her mostly unsympathetic.
Stephen's children, the innocent victims of Martin's vengeful plot, should surely have some element of likability if we are to feel any fear for their predicament, but alas they too are passive, unfeeling robots who fail to engage.
The film instead relies on gimmicky mechanics to convey tension and dread where the stolid acting falls short. There are dozens of shots where the camera slowly zooms down long corridors or empty rooms, accompanied by screechy, dissonant sound effects as if trying to convince you that the dreary banality of what's unfolding on screen is actually threatening and you should be very afraid.
The film is also full of pointlessly weird scenarios and obtuse dialogue that seem to be there solely for the purpose of making the viewer squirm uncomfortably. There are many bizarre references to menstruation and armpit hair, a pointless sex scene involving a nude Nicole Kidman pretending to be anesthetized so her pervert husband can get it up, and one particularly risible scene where Colin Farrell confesses to his young son that when he was a small boy, he happened upon his sleeping father and masturbated him until "The bed sheets were covered in sperm".
The nonsense continues at a creeping pace until the under-whelming, implausible climax, which feels a poor reward for enduring what was essentially a 30 minute short film stretched into two hours. I don't think any amount of retrospective research on "Iphigenia in Aulis" will change my rating. One of the few boring films of 2017, but excellent cast.
What can I say about this film other than it is, in my opinion flawless. Every performance, every character, every scene... Debra Winger should have shared the Oscar with Shirley MacLaine. Few movies can make you laugh and cry OVER and OVER again, but this one does it for me. Even when I catch a scene on cable, I find myself drawn in emotionally and grabbing for my box of tissues. The mother-daughter relationship is so true-to-life and the chemistry between Debra and Shirley and Shirley and Jack is palpable. It is one of the greatest films ever made and should be required viewing for all mothers and daughters. This is an AMAZING and moving film!
One of the film's stronger threads poses a key question: even if you could extend your life by decades, would you really want to?

+The hotel that Michael et al go to, is the same hotel featured in the movie Cedar Rapids, also starring Ed Helms.
+The bar in Winnipeg that they go to is actually a bar in downtown Los Angeles called Seven Grand.
+The song Jim is whistling just after the opening credits is "Might As Well" by Something for Rockets.

Errors in geography
+It is highly unlikely that a Canadian hotel employee in Winnipeg would speak with a French -Canadian accent. Only in Quebec and the Atlantic provinces is French widely spoken, and almost not at all in Manitoba (4%).
+Michael Scott wants to see a menu in first class, but the flight attendant says there are no meals served on flights that are less than two hours. A direct flight from Winnipeg to Scranton, PA takes almost three hours.
+Dwight audibly pans Pam's painting of the office building because it has too many shadows. The last time he checked "the office is not in the Andromeda Galaxy" because that galaxy has more than one sun, which would, indeed, create more shadows.

+When Michael calls for a grief counseling circle in the conference room, Pam describes the movie "Million Dollar Baby," Ryan describes +"The Lion King," and Kevin describes "Weekend at Bernie's."
+In this episode, the Stamford office discusses the order for "Fairfield County Schools." However, Connecticut schools are not run by counties but rather by individual town and regional districts, meaning Fairfield County wouldn't be the ones placing a paper order.
+Dwight says his grandfather was reburied in an old oil drum. This must be the same grandfather whose tux he inherited.
+This episode was filmed after the fifth episode, "Initiation".

Continuity
First, they talk about Ed Truck like he still worked at Dunder-Mifflin, Michael says he's retired when he appears in The Office: The Carpet nine months earlier. In that episode Michael goes on about how he hates Ed Truck, so it's either a continuity error or the writers expect us to remember that episode and assume Michael is overly grief-stricken over his death to get attention from his coworkers. The way it's portrayed Michael's grief really comes off as a continuity error and he seems to really care deeply for Ed Truck.
Plot holes
In the episode, Karen wants a bag of Herr's Salt and Vinegar chips, but there aren't any in the vending machine. However, when she walks by the vending machine you can see the chips in slot B1.

During the bird funeral, the cast wore coats despite the hot summer weather.
Come on you guys with the low ratings -- don't be so critical and snobbish. Enjoy the sweet love story and beautiful scenery of New Zealand. The village and the residents were charming. Makes you want to live there. So what if it was somewhat predictable. The lead couple was attractive and made you root for them. The story was simple, entertaining, and satisfying, with a happy ending. As for the film overall, I found it refreshing because there was no swearing and vulgarity.
My Score 6/10.
*Good movie*
I like Adam Sandler movies. They are fun and feel good movies just to relax for 90 minutes.
They don't want to be more nor less. They deliver that.
This was not Sandler's best movie, but it was in the top ranking.
Good story, good jokes, good plot twists, nice girls, what else could you ask for?
If you are a German crossfitting vegan who vapes, and hates Sandler, just because your Barista at your Starbucks hate it too, then don't watch it!. If you like fun movies to relax, then it's absolutely for you.
My Score 7/10.
*If you love a great romantic movie you don't want to miss this movie!*
All I can say for those of you who have not seen the movie yet.. Sandra and Keanu are fantastic together on screen. The chemistry is definitely there. This is a romantic/drama you will want to see again and again. i I have seen it a few times. I've seen "Somewhere in Time" and I think this tops that by far. Don't miss out on some truly wonderful acting. I watched "Speed" released in 1994 12 years ago, which was the last movie these two starred in to be prepared for the development I knew I would see on screen. They both proved equal to the task. I laughed, I cried and left the theater totally satisfied. It was well worth the wait. I wish these two could do more film projects....together, they definitely seem comfortable with each other.
My Score: 8/10.
**It's a nice movie, in my case it reflects in part what my life is, I also have spinal damage, that if I'm not a millionaire, I do not live in a castle, I'm not handsome, my name is Felipe, I'm acondroplasic too, I'm 30 years old, I'm Santiago de Chile and never have I had something serious with someone codepen for most of the things of someone, in this case of my mother, I have to use Bipap to sleep, because I suffer from apnea, use urine collector to avoid the expense of diapers, I have to clean the ass every two days, I take many remedies, and good if you would like to be my friend in trakt follow me, a hug!
Ps. The idea of ending my daily suffering, both psychological and physical, has also come to my mind, so I am in favor of Euthanasia or suicide.**
Trivia
+Near the end, Stanley delivers a soliloquy about losing seven pounds and then bows his head and raises his right fist. This scene is a homage to two black American sprinters, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, who won gold and bronze medals in the 1968 Olympics. They generated controversy by raising their fists while on the medal stand as the national anthem was being played.
+We find out Pam's weight in this episode. According to the scale calculations, the entire team weighed 2,336 lbs when Pam was on the scale and 2,210 lbs when she got off. So Pam weighs 126 lbs.
+When Jim visits Pam at her Residential Advisor room, Jim misdirects the cameraman away and closes the door. This is the only time where you hear the "documentary" camera crew, namely a sigh.
+Holly's real first name is Hollis.
+When Holly is shown at her desk, right before she finds Kelly making her juice, you can see her name plate revealing her real first name to be Hollis.
+There is a point where Jim is talking about having to spend his lunch with different people while Pam is away, during this time Michael is shown without a goatee, which he has had the entire episode because Ryan has one. Michael is shown afterwards leading a meeting with his goatee still there.
+It is revealed via Holly's whiteboard that the remaining Dunder Mifflin branches in operation are: 1) Scranton, PA; 2) Nashua, NH; 3) Camden, NJ; 4) Utica, NY; 5) Buffalo, NY; 6) Albany, NY; 7) Yonkers, NY; 8) New York City Corporate Center.
+As Pam is running over to Jim at the gas station, she comments that "Montclair would have been closer" (as in, to meet halfway). Montclair is a real city in northern New Jersey popular for its arts centers and restaurants.

Continuity
+Michael's goatee disappears in a lunchroom scene and returns for a weigh in. He later shaves it off.
+Pam comments to Jim at the gas station that: "Montclair would have been closer, so you have to buy lunch". This is untrue. Montclair, NJ, is 1 hour/ 50 minutes away from Scranton, PA (Jim) - but only 55 minutes from midtown Manhattan (Pam). That is not at all halfway between the two locations. Newton, NJ, would have been a better compromise.
Spoilers
Jenna Fischer actually kept the engagement ring that her future husband, Jim, gave to her in this episode. She has been seen wearing it sometimes in public and in interviews.
Trivias
Jim previously pretended to be Michael Scott in The Office: Halloween (2005).
Spoilers
In this episode Dwight assumes that Michael is worried that's someone is "after him" because of Michaels constant checking on the front door. Oscar replies to the annoyed affect of, "Has anyone ever been after anyone in this office?" This is an ironic foreshadowing as in Season 9, Episode 8: "The Target", Angela orders a hit on Oscar.
I absolutely loved the ending. I knew Neal couldn't be dead - that pretty much ends residuals if people know he dies. The baby was adorable, Peter and El were so happy, Mozzie was still Mozzie and Neal was off on another adventure. I like to think he eventually does meet up with Peter again. The icing on the cake was the smile on Peter's face when he realizes Neal is really alive. Great Ending!
This episode served as a backdoor pilot for the spin-off "The Finder".
It is also the only episode to stray from the Noun-Preposition-Noun naming scheme.
Strangely, Booth states in this episode that he had to go AWOL in order to be present for Parker's birth. All prior sources indicate that Booth was already working for the FBI by then.
Wonderful Finale for a great series. I cried. A lot. A LOT.
The perfect ending. :)
What can you say about the farewell of a show that has meant so much to so many people? It is the kind of event that you can only judge to some extent because at a certain point the "love letter to the fans" that Craig Daniels wrote draws you in emotionally and you end up loving it. I guess I deserve to give this show the best tribute I can. Let me start here, I am a big fan, and all my life I have been bullied and never had very many friends. The last few years have been especially tough for me and I have struggled with very intense things that have led to some very serious actions, to say the least. I have grown up with these characters as part of my life and throughout my life they have served as friends when I had no other ones. The last few years these characters have been there for me and seeing them grow has helped me grow. A show that means so much to me had to finish perfectly or it all would be ruined. I sat down already teary eyed knowing that they would be gone from my life in an hour. The episode delivered great laughs, but it delivered a lot more. The episode delivered very intimate moments that were much needed. Plot lines that begun throughout the show came to a good conclusion and old stars returned with perfect timing. It was a sweet, beautiful, amazing, perfect love letter from the amazing cast to all of it's fans. I must admit that I was in tears seeing how much the characters had grown since we first visited this little town of Scranton Pennsylvania. The story line of the friendship between Dwight and Jim is particularly heart- warming. Every character ended up just where they should have and the final shot was perfection. "Sometimes goodbyes are a *****" but this perfect love letter softened the blow. The show will be missed, but it did end perfectly.
This episode received three Primetime Emmy Award nominations for the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards. Greg Daniels was nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and Ben Patrick, John W. Cook, and Rob Carr were nominated for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Animation. David Rogers and Claire Scanlon won for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series, marking the fifth win for The Office at the Emmys overall and the series' first win since 2009.Rogers and Scanlon also won an ACE Eddie award for Best Edited Half-Hour Series for Television.
It was a great season, and a pretty good final episode. The twist back to the actual bomber is surprising, and the shocking event that everyone is so mad about is done well. Grow up, crybabies.

What a lovely way to end the show. I thought this was a truly amazing way to end it, especially the last couple of minutes and bringing everyone back. Really enjoyed this program with such fabulous actors. 8 year of familiar humour (touch of joy), a peculiar family.
Ps. The episode ends with a New Orleans style Second Line after the "funeral" complete with some black & gold umbrellas.
*Amazing episode building up to the finale.*
I cried, I felt joy. (My father is equal to Pops)
The performances been better, the story line. The twins, looking back on their evolution, my heart is full. I can't wait to see how this ends.

When Rainbow is going over Diane's university choices, they dismiss Jack's suggestion that he just apply to the same ones with Diane suggesting he apply to community colleges near her choices, a concept Jack agrees to. Then when Rainbow tentatively suggests they could go to different schools, they treat this idea as ridiculous. However, Diane's previous suggestion actually already would be different schools.
This episode makes me cry a lot, Why does a beautiful love relationship have to end?
For a comedy, this episode was super dark and dramatic.
People rating this episode one star is absolutely madness. I get that you watch this show to have fun, laugh, if you want drama you pick other shows, but you can't deny this was executed to perfection. Beautiful cinematography and real issues that every couple has dealt with. C'est la vie!
~~ The episode's story, which deals with a family crisis when Bow (Tracee Ellis Ross) is diagnosed with preeclampsia and has to undergo an emergency c-section to deliver their sixth child eight weeks prematurely, is taken directly from creator Kenya Barris' own life. Last year, his wife Bow gave birth to their sixth child prematurely after being diagnosed with preeclampsia, a condition which causes potentially life-threateningly high blood pressure. ~~
Beautiful episode!!

How personality shapes our society.*
It makes me profoundly happy that this documentary could be backed by a large media company.
Nothing but the truth in this documentary.
It's a look at the shockingly pathological society we have become and the problems we will face if we continue to live as though jobs should only be awarded by merit in a bourgeois society.
Thanks very much. (Peace for kyle's Family)
My score 6/10.
*African Bum Disease.*
Yep, pretty similar to Outbreak, but it does a fairly good job.
The usual American TVM stuff; naff clichés, overacting, lots of hairsprays, the usual faces, a happy ending and a soft picture finish.
The best bit is when Sheridan whacks fatty doctor round the chops with a spade - made me laugh out loud...
The plot isn't bad too, which rises this above the normal 2/3/4's that year average gets. But not that much!
== It reminds me of this Covid pandemic that has not yet been completely eradicated globally. 2019-202x ==

*My mom and I enjoyed it!*
Actually, it's funny and sweet. Shows how they relationship gets better through a hard time. And it's quite realistic, if you're looking for a comedy I recommend it.
My score 6/10.
In 2022, this film still holds up with its all-star cast and strong story line. But, even more reason to watch it today is to measure how our society hasn't held up as well with all its political name-calling and online bullying that has pushed personal honor and integrity to one side. Just saying.
Perhaps it can be a shiny mirror to help us decide how and where we want to make shifts in our lives to "regain our soul"-- pulling from the last lines of the film--once again.
M’y score 7/10.
Beautiful, beautiful, film... For those who love the romantic genre (competing ethical values and the importance of winning on equal terms, the importance of family) it reinforces the idea that dreams are pursued and what is done. That can be achieved by achieving the goals, it also contains some history and basic information about Paris.
My score 7/10.
This is a very touching episode. I cried many times when I was watching it, especially the part when Niles called Daphne's name over and over again. The emotions are warms and genuine. I also really liked the little pieces of recollections of past hospital scenes. A really heart-warming episode.
Trivia
It won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing for a Series.
Watching the documentary, I could not imagine the magnitude of what happened on that date when social networks did not yet exist, only text messages. Wars do not lead to anything, only to cause pain to the soul of the people affected, to their family and friends, to an entire people, to a country.
My score 7/10.

I can still remember exactly where I was when I heard what happened on September 11, 2001, as I'm sure most of us can. Watching the news unfold in total disbelief and horror. The emotions still run deep.
I am watching this episode a few days after the 911 remembrance in 2021. The world is in the biggest mess it has been in since that time. Covid-19 has changed everything. Once again, things are so surreal that no one really knows what to do. The seemingly impossible has happened again. A virus has taken over. There is political unrest and rioting in the streets. People are dying and there seems no certain relief or answers in sight. Just shock and searching for hope.
I wish so much that we could all come together as we did then. After 911 people set aside differences and reached towards each other for healing. That has not happened as of yet during these troubled times. Hopefully it will soon.
