@angelcosta TERRIBLE. I expected nothing and was still surprised with how bad it is.

Why does he jog in short distances?
Why does he hold the gun like his hand is soft limb?
Could we not afford bobby this episode?
Such a waste of Stormare...loading replies
@angelcosta a waste of Gil Birmingham too.
@jmiguel77 I can't believe someone thought it was a good or cool idea. I got second hand embarrassment watching it.

dixon is just a weak cosmetic, idk if its the actress's problem or they wrote it purposely, this character is not working anyway
loading replies
@vividveros she was almost decent at the beginning, but she kept getting worse with every episode. She's no way on Neagley or Roscoe's level.
This show has a grip on me. During the first episode I already knew the story is true, but afterwards I discovered that the main character is portrayed by the real person, the man who lived the story. Watching this second episode, knowing Donny “is actually Donny”… This is undeniably a unique form of art I've never seen before.

@zowezie wow that's kinda messed up.
@wawowiwa not even Team May, but definitely can't stand Grace. Both character and actor are equally DULL.
I mean we know he's dead (rest in peace Adan Canto ), I don't understand dragging the Arman mystery for as long as they did.

@mia_coppola Oh! Thanks for clarifying, I didn't know that. ☹
@whos_ur_buddha a lot of the casting was bad actually.
As someone who works nights I can't help but constantly wonder when Peter is going to get some freaking sleep!
loading replies
@morphinapg literally the only thing on my mind the entire episode is Peter NEEDS HIS 8 HOURS!
Unpopular opinion. I thought, from the hype of Twitter, the show would be great. I don’t want to shit on everyone’s parade but Normal People is utterly boring.
Predictable story about two of the most boring people on earth thinking their relationship is so scandalous when it really isn't. Their problems would be solved if either of the main characters could hold an adult conversation instead of assuming the worst about every situation.
Normal People is very repetitive - literally just the same concept in each episode - Connell and Marianne are with new people, then broke up with those people and hooked up, got into fighting …. repeat. Cut 12 half-hour episodes into a 2-hour movie and you won’t miss absolutely anything from the plot.

@cutecruel wish I had read your review before wasting my time on this series. Ah well! Genuinely surprised by the hype compared to how lacking it is. On all fronts. It's utterly boring and worst of all the characters are unlikable. I'm sorry but I couldn't care less about what happened to those self-absorbed people.
it was fun despite the plot had nothing new or special, but i didn't feel the chemistry between the leads it wasn't a nice choice putting them together imo.

@ima-senpai true! they felt like good buddies mostly, didn't feel the romanic chemistry.
@glasgow1975 literally the best part.

VIP4I thought the acting in the film was really great, but otherwise, the film suffered from moving too fast, which means that the viewer doesn’t get enough appreciation for who Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre were on a deeper level. And forget the other characters; I had no idea what their names were and why some of them were important.
I think the story would have been better told in an 8- to 10-episode TV series. Because that didn’t happen, though, I’m going to go read their Wikipedia pages to fill in all the gaps and look for some other stories about their lives.

@violentsneeze agreed. except I wasn't invested enough in the secondary characters to look them up. lol

VIP6As much as I love David he's starting to exhaust me in his scenes. So much hand waving and his voice is grating on me. That coupled with Roland being generally unbearable is making for a rough ride

@reiko_lj he definitely needs to tone it down a bit.
Review by Lainfan
I did not read the books, and I did not play any of the games (although I heard at least one of the games is of great quality in storytelling) so I went into this show more or less a blank slate.
And boy it is bad.... The writing is just dreadful. I think the writers assumed prior knowledge to the world and characters, and lean on that assumption too heavily.
From the very beginning it is poorly written. Timelines are messy and unclear, exposition is done terribly, worldbuilding looked like an afterthought and taken from a first draft, the pacing is all over the place and inconsistent over time as well inconsistent for each subplot. Episode structure is even irratic. They presented us a continuous story, but several episodes focused more on little episodic adventures that did not impact the main storyline all that much. And for a show with only 8 episodes, that is deadly and lead to other stories being rushed or simply put on hold for the next season (I assume.)Toward the middle of the show, it started to get a bit better and I thought it could be promising after a bit rocky start, but in the end they could not deliver and it turned into an utter and complete trainwreck (oh that last episode, I almost fell out of my chair several times from disbelieve.) Rushed plot resolutions, while other characters stories crawled to a complete standstill with close to no progression or character development, in somecases even for the whole season.
What the show does have going for it: Photography, sets and costume design are beautiful!
I really did not want to dislike this, but it looked like they actively tried to make me stop watching.
Note: This review is about season 1.

@lainfan agreed. and the S1 review is applicable to all seasons.

VIP10I'm convinced that at this stage the creators just randomly open some page from the books, and build a scene based on that. And then another, and another. It doesn't hold together, there is no emotion in it. And most of all, it doesn't have the spirit of one of my beloved novels.
Well, and why is it that this season, every place looks like it was just built out of Legos? Even an inferior pub in some rumpus is clean and fragrant. Everyone has everything at hand, too. All you have to do is get off the road, take a few steps and you're there.
loading replies
@yuurei I'm not familiar with the books or games and still I got that same impression.
This'll go the way of John Carter.
Massive info dump at the start. Cringy dialogue throughout. Every introduction to a new member is the same. Too many things just happen to go just right to make the good guys look good. Like the bird horse thing. It knocks him off and happens to fly in front of him just right for him to jump back on. In slow motion. Which this movie also has a lot of. I'm sure this would be 20 minutes shorter if everything was shown in real time. Also, why does Charlie Hunnam have that horrible Irish adjacent accent?
My favourite genre is scifi fantasy but between this, the Creator and Avatar, I'm getting really tired of being dissapointed.
God the acting is atrocious.

@nox-anexayi agreed. except I actually liked John Carter more than this. At least it was funnier. lol
Every character and actor in this movie is so alive and dynamic and then there's Emily Blunt.

Not sure what this season is about yet, but I'm having trouble dealing with the lack of wrinkles and changes of shape in the faces of Aniston and Witherspoon. They look like a Madamme Toussaud's version of themselves. Fortunately there's Julianna Margulies: wrinkled and beautiful and looking like an older version of her younger self.
loading replies
@toto74 at least with Aniston she has some decent nuances to make up for it. I buy what she's selling. I'm sorry but I can't get over how terrible Witherspoon is. More like Woodenspoon.
My goodness Allegra Edwards is a really talented actress!

@nsdjbftv easily the best part of the series.
There's no escaping sounding like a snob when saying this, but I'll say it anyway. Honestly every "twist" in the season was obvious from a mile away. Time travel is a tricky subject matter but it's hardly "brilliant" writing. The first half of the season nearly put me to sleep, and the latter was entertaining enough, but it's not really that great or original.

@zachbrownies short answer is no. it's just more of the same loose ends and plot holes.

VIP2I guess it's at least a good thing that Nate finally did something truly reprehensible, rather than this meandering being a jerk to the people around him thing that's been going on and off this season.
Funnily enough, Trent Crimm is a double asshole: first for writing the article at all, then for revealing his source. Lol

@jasperkazai I was thinking the same thing. lol I guess his "respect" outweighed his integrity.

Out of probably a thousand TV episodes I’ve watched, this is the only one that I played at 2× speed. It’s that bad.

@imjqe It's definitely the first episode in this series at least that I had to play at 2x speed. Started alright but got boring and seemed too long real quick.

About time there's a decent horror movie. The majority of horror in the past years has been cheezy or garbage. Hope this becomes a franchise.

@kornmaniak23 I doubt it would be as effective as a franchise.
It's soooo sad that Ryann and Trey can't even be friends anymore because of a certain insecure someone. Ugh! THEY ARE SO PURE AND DESERVE THE WORLD. Also, Alex and Kat give such Cameron and Daphne (from The White Lotus) vibes it's insane.

@sophiaso yeah, it's definitely crazy how all four couples proposed and all were accepted. I guess there's some sense of validation in knowing almost a year later pretty much hardly anything changed. lol Especially with Antonio and Roxanne. Their parts were WILD. I genuinely feel bad for that delusional man.
