WWE WrestleMania XL Saturday

First two matches were great. There was a lull in the middle of the show not helped by the crowd. Sami-Gunther picked it back up. Main event was great and absolutely flew by. Rock’s still got it. Onto tomorrow. Bosh

1923: 1x06 One Ocean Closer to Destiny

Seems I’m in the minority but this was probably my favourite episode so far.

Teonna’s storyline along with Spencer & Alex’s are still the most interesting aspects of the show for me, but this feels like the first episode where Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren have actually been able to work together, and provide us with their expertise. Their conversation outside the house was great mainly because it felt real, and you get the sense that both are enjoying their roles more and more as the show goes on.

I’m enjoying this series, although admittedly I haven’t loved it, but is quite extraordinary to look at – this goes for every episode. Much like Yellowstone and 1883, it feels like a movie at times

True Detective: 4x01 Night Country: Part 1

Very strong start. Dark, suspenseful, great to look at it, and Jodie Foster is tremendously cast. Can’t wait to see how this season pans out

My major problem with this film is that I really enjoyed about 70% of it, before they started making up endings. A lot of people are afraid to admit this.

Having said that, it was gorgeously shot and captivating and that’s why it felt like such a let down when all 4 endings were crap.

Ending 1 (the first twist with his family on his birthday) just invalidated the first 80 minutes of the film entirely and every emotion he felt up until then.

Ending 2 (what happened after the party) was just a bit stupid. The drone shot after it was great though.

Ending 3 in the coffee shop was when it really started going off the rails.

And Ending 4, just a completely mental reshoot.

The King

This film rips and I sort of blame its platform for the reason it’s not spoken about as our generational muddy brown medieval king-and-war movie. If this had been in cinemas in the early aughts everyone would’ve gone three times and then ran the DVD into the fucking ground. Instead it’s hidden in a load of menus, a deep scroll away from whatever Office episode you were watching last. Robert Pattinson’s French accent is worth the 2h20 alone

Boiling Point

One of the best things on TV this year. Same cast and director as the film, and just as class. Right from the first episode it forces you to put down your phone and really watch. An astounding central performance from Stephen Graham, because he’s incapable of doing otherwise. Particularly enjoy watching for those little moments that may turn bad, a pan being on too long etc. It is different to The Bear: uses interpersonal-comment-as-you-pass-with-a-hot-plate humour rather than, for instance, having to wrestle a big inflatable hot dog into a small car. Was initially worried it had too much dazzle and not enough life but once it drops the “we’ve only got one camera” shtick it quickly finds rhythm - by the end of Ep 2 I was so invested I (a very miserable and hard-to-move person) almost cried at one of the story twists. Nailbiting stuff. You really can’t look away

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon: 1x02 Alouette

Actually really digging this show. Impressed at how quickly the writers have made me care about a new character in Isabelle - something that Dead City failed to do in six. Clémence Poésy is killing it.

The setting and scenery makes the series look and feel so fresh. Ok, there’s certain plot armour elements that are a little overboard (a baby being born 2 months premature and being completely fine, all children speaking English fluently, Daryl falling literally into a herd and having the time to look up and around, get up, get a weapon out, swing it about, without getting bit) but it’s whatever - it’s a tv show - about zombies, lol.

So far so good. Best stuff they’ve done in years

Scream VI

Was actually really high on the film until the very end; until, not only Kirbie and Gail were fine, but Chad too? Lol. Ok

Aside from this, loved how fresh it felt, still cleverly self aware but the switching up of the typical format really worked for me. Loved the Easter eggs and throwbacks - the hint at Stu being alive :eyes:. But yeah, really needed a big death, or one of the twins at least
