Another project f***ed up for SJW. Masters of the Universe is He-man. We don't want to watch Teela. We want He-man. You are ruining He-man as Disney ruined Star Wars with Rey.
:construction: Moderator edit :construction: Let’s keep it respectful.
Wokeflix attacks again, Teela as She-man? Orko dead? Multiverse with feminism? No thanks i will keep the original series as canon, not this.
Nothing tastes as good as salty dude bro tears, honestly watching all these men have a tantrum makes this even better.
As a nineties kid I never watched HeMan, and honestly it’s too dated for me to enjoy at this point, so I am coming in fresh here. But this is amazing animation, and incredible voice talent.
The story is compelling and enjoyable, with twists and wonderful female empowerment. This is modern animation at its finest and I am very invested in the future of this program.
I hope to see queer representation also as was done with She-Ra.
Let's start with the positive, great animation and design, amazing work by the artists.
The writing though was kind of okay I guess.
Addressing the elephant in the room, yes, I felt extremely cheated by all the trailers and sinopses Netflix marketing provided, sure I was surprised by the direction they chose the series to go but at the same time I felt they pranked and trolled me. Basically I was hoping to to see Adam/He-man but the production decided NOPE! Take Teela instead she'll be your primary character now, and He-man will be just an afterthought. The problem is I really like the character of Teela but their bait and switch made me feel resentful towards her. Poor marketing I guess and not having a clue what their target demographic was hoping to see.
I'm all for subverting expectations, but I just fell cheated.
Look what they done to my boy... :disappointed:
First of all, while it isn't nearly as great as She-Ra (obviously) it is still enjoyable. And while I "get" why the fanbois got their panties all in a twist they seriously just need to get over it. This is not a bad show at all.
The art and music is all great. It fits the show well. The character designs are all true to the '80s version, just with an updated style and it looks good. The voice cast is of course amazing with many great stars in it and they mostly do a great job. Unfortunately I feel that casting Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela was a miscast. And only because her voice doesn't seem to match the strongly built character. It just feels off.
The fleshing out of secondary (and tertiary) characters is really nice as they finally gain some depth, even if it is just a little it is still more than we've ever had. I love Roboto, and even Orko got some actual proper dialogue! Backstory even! Orko!
People need to calm down. This is just the first part of the story to reboot the franchise. it's not focused on He-man but he'll be the focus soon enough. it's very well done and as someone who watched this as a kid I loved how they took a show that really had no reason for existing other than to market the toys and gave it purpose. I really enjoyed it and look forward to seeing where they take the story next.
Shitflix strikes again. Thanks for ruining another show.
Nice look and Fights but Sad the Revelations are empty Twists and Cliffhangers and there is too much focus on the boring Teela
On the whole, I found the entire show very good, but I think the show suffered as a result of breaking it into two parts. People were expecting one thing and are rightfully taken aback when the story gets turned on its head.
Part 1 is definitely the weaker of the two, with the introduction of a few new characters and trying to establish where old familiars are now in the scheme of things. But Part 2 takes it up a big notch. It's more adult and the themes are much more sophisticated. I found myself bingeing and really enjoying Part 2 now that I understood the issues the creative team were trying to explore.
AKA: This isn't the same show you knew as a kid. It's the same characters, same style, and same universe, but instead of episodic driven childish storylines, the creative team explores more adult themes, a broader story, and a more realistic (if we can say that about a cartoon universe) depiction of the characters actions.
Shouldn't eps 1-5 be Season 1 and eps 6-10 be Season2.
I have no issue with Teela taking a more central role in the series. What I have issue with is how it took a new series to make me realize how boring the MotU story was and still is. Bracing for fan rage...
Absolutely everything that true fans could have hoped for, and a treat for newcomers too. With an explosive start that hits the nostalgia button and then turning everything on its head, to the adventure which follows, the short first season does nothing but leave you wanting more. The sad and insecure little man-children review bombing this show are not fans, they're just weak losers jumping on some low-IQ bandwagon like the drooling sheep they are. Pathetic actions of pathetic people.. If you are intelligent you will appreciate what the creators have done in this passionate love letter to a classic.
Well that was dissapointing. Started fine, but keept going down from there.
'Masters of the Universe: Revelations' is not an outstanding series by any stretch of imagination, but it is still quite a good one. While everyone has the right to like or dislike a series, hating a series over nostalgia is a tad stupid. Stories can evolve to fit in to contemporary times. The makers of this series have attempted the same, and have pulled it off quite well, without any sermonizing that seems prevalent at times.
The original He Man animated series formed a big part of my childhood and I loved that series. However, I must confess that I couldn't really get into it when tried to re-watch it a few years back. The characters seemed a bit one-dimensional, there was a lot of deus ex machina involved, and there was actually a bit of sermonizing involved as well since each episode would have a 'Moral of the Story' at the end of it. And, that was understandable as the series was aimed mainly at kids and to sell the toys (not that this one isn't intended for the same purpose).
With this series, the creators have tried to add depth to a lot of supporting characters, especially Teela, Orko, and Evil-Lyn. I haven't read the Masters of the Universe comic books, so I do not know if the same backstory is added for these characters in the comics. The focus on other characters has also enabled the creators to expand the universe and add more complexity to it. While the worldbuilding does seem a bit derivative at times, it nevertheless holds good as the characters themselves are given decent backstories and emotional connections.
The animation is quite good. So is the score (though, I do think the original opening theme was better). The voice cast is outstanding, with Mark Hamill as Skeletor and Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn doing a particularly brilliant job.
The main area where the series suffers is the actual building up of some of the relationships. It seems a bit abrupt at times. However, given the short runtime, that was inevitable, I guess. The series also lags a little bit in the middle, I feel, which shouldn't be the case given how short it is. I do agree that the first trailer that was released was a bit misleading (though again, that is no reason the hate the series), but showing anything else would have given away couple of a major spoilers.
Despite these shortcomings though, I found the series to be quite engaging. I hope all the negative feedback does not discourage Netflix from going for a second season.
I liked it and yes i was a kid in the 80s
First I'll start out by saying that I actually liked the story for what it was and that it has some of the best animations I've seen in a while. My main complaint is the same as everyone else. This isn't about He Man.
Hopefully, the next season will change direction. I'm also hoping that the next season will arrive soon instead of waiting a year or so.
Beautiful animation but now I see why it is masters of the universe and not He-man and the masters of the universe…He-man is literally written out and relegated to an insignificant add on…disappointing.
I just finished episode three, and so far, I'm really enjoying it. The animation is great, the voice casting is on point, but the story is nothing to write home about (not like the original cartoon was Shakespeare, mind you).
The show is scheduled to be ten episodes, but people are overreacting when we're only at episode five. LOL
WTF? Why do they keep doing this?
It's A Treat To He-Man Fans, Animation Is Good, But Only Downside is that it has only 5 Episodes
More like She-Man: Whamen of teh Uterverse
#SpoilerAlert: This is not about He-Man. It's the... Teela Show. Complete with the "one side of the head shaved hairdo" that hollyweird seems to THINK all lesbians and/or "strong women" sport.
This series is a big joke and it's completely disrespectful to [1] He-Man fans and [2] Actual women
Unless you have NO IDEA what He-Man is about and/or you're new to this IP (Intellectual Property), don't waste your time on this hot garbage.
Stoked for this!!! You are bringing my childhood back to life!
I'm not sure what some people were expecting from this Masters of the Universe re-boot. The clue should be in the fact it's no longer called He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
Overall the story was very well thought out. It gave respect to the original characters and provided a good stepping off point for further adventures of the Eternians.
I was 3 years old when the original series began and watched it religiously, I was the key demographic after all. I'm not sure why people feel we need a carbon copy of the original series for it to be a success.
Nice one Kevin Smith et al!
My only small gripe is there was no rotoscoped animation, that would have been a nice stylistic touch.
So you revive a series to sell toys to boys... but story evolves around Teela, Andra and Evelin. There is very little He-Man or Skeletor action in it, even Beast-Man gets more action than the two of them together.
The only other exception is Man-at-Arms, who really rocks the few moments he gets.
It's not told bad, but it feels more like it should have been a She-Ra reboot, not Master of the Universe.
Anxiously anticipating this series turned out to be a let down. Confused!! Go woke, go broke

The only good thing about this is the animation and action sequences. The character development and storyline is about equivalent to having a wine party drinking green water from a sewer drain. You are better off watching the 2002 reboot.

We all wanted to love He-Man and the work behind it was good, the animation was really good. The first season was good but not great, the second season changed it up and was honestly amazing and I really enjoyed it. The second season did the job and was fun, didn't take it where I expected but that's the fun part.
