Very good drama... love it...looking forward the second series...
Seasons 1 to 4 were superb, season 5 is a yawn fest. An amazing exercise into boredom. Pity, such a good series reduced to this .
Claire Foy is the best Queen of them all, and 'The Crown' is the best series on TV right now! Addictive and full of breathtaking talent.
With a title like "The Crown" it sounds boring. However it's quite the opposite and offers good insight into the background of the early days of the current royal family and the Queen.
Such a great show… but they ruined the last 2 seasons. Why did they try to picture Charles as a goodie? What’s that scene about him dancing in season 5? And season 6 is a waste of time. A whole episode talking about some strokes, when you had 9/11 and major change in foreign policy to depict? What about Iraq war and the fall of Blair? For god’s sake.
The first 2-3 seasons were superb. They gave an interesting glimpse into the enduring monarchy whilst everything around it is changing fast. And the events depicted are far enough in the past to be new to people of my generation.
But then the series slowed down, the soap opera elements with Charles, Diana and Camilla took over, culminating in that ever whining Charles and doe-gazed Diana... It felt like dragging through molasses, honestly... and then the William and Harry-spectacle is started. Season 5 and the beginning of season 6 are suffering for it. Contrasting what I said above, I think the writers just couldn't resist that spectacle... but since I've grown up with it... it just feels rehearsed and repetitive and soulless.
So my view of this series remains quite ambivalent. I'd have wished for it to have ended before all the soap opera, maybe with Charles and Diana's wedding in season 4. I just think it's not yet time to view (and judge) that period objectively.
Soooo... I realise that I'm sort of sticking out like a sore thumb here - but am I really the only one who finds the characters very, very hard to like? Maybe it's too early to judge, I'm only three episodes in, but so far pretty much everyone seem to be cold, selfish and prone to intriguing. Yes, I do realise that times were very different back in those times, but still. It doesn't really matter how excellent the actors are and how historically interesting everything ought to be, I still find myself drifting off in other thoughts while watching and let's face it; that is not exactly good grades.
We'll see. I'll make a small break and watch something else for now, I might return and change my mind completely. Fingers crossed, because I really WANT to like The Crown!
Jared Harris and John Lithgow are amazing in their roles. And the high production budget (highest ever for Netflix) really shows. All the scenes look fantastic.
And it got Hans Zimmer doing the music. That should speak for itself.
I was really impressed with Matt Smith in this role. The entire cast was remarkable, but his performance was especially noteworthy. John Lithgow as Winston Churchill seemed strange at first, but really worked and was just as impressive. Claire Foy was lovely to watch and really came to inhabit the role of Elizabeth II.
I'm excited to see how the rest of series plays out, especially if its projected to have 60 episodes depicting Elizabeth's life all the way up to the present day.
One of the best historical drama series of all time!
There is no doubt that the most beautiful episodes are those in which the main characters are Matt Smith, Jared Harris and John Lithgow. God save all of them but the Queen. I'm sorry but Claire Foy is not up to that role
I want to see the second season very soon!!
Will be very interesting to see how the series handles the whole Diana thing.
3 Thoughts After Completing ‘The Crown’:
THIS is premiere storytelling, folks. Superior quality television. I initially went into this merely to test out the hype, expecting to be bored by subject matter I had little-to-no interest in… expecting to face challenges in understanding a history I knew nothing about. Instead, I was absolutely captivated by every single episode and I learned SO much. Every episode feels perfectly crafted, mini motion pictures, focusing on a character — or set of characters — blessing them with all the layers they need and deserve. Just brilliant.
We got a brand new cast every two seasons, and my heart broke a little each time we had to say goodbye. But then the new group would rope me right back in, making me eventually miss them too. Nearly impeccable casting.
Diana. There’s a particular focus on her when she steps into this world — as there should be. It was a painful watch, in the sense that I wanted it to all play out differently for her. And Elizabeth Debicki portrayed her to absolute perfection.
This show makes you respect the crown. Maybe not understand but definately respect.

The 6 seasons of THE CROWN began strong to rave reviews. I, too, was swept up in the enthusiasm as my review at the end of Season 2 bears witness - “Another superb season of THE CROWN - superb acting, drama and production. A really well written docudrama featuring the highs and low of our Queen's reign amid the sweep of world history. Must watch TV, available on Netflix. Unsurprisingly, I give it a 10 (superb) out of 10.”. However, as the events reflected times I had witnessed, from afar, in my lifetime, I became sceptical of the fictionalized history, almost resenting the narrative they were creating around sensitive issues within the royal household. In the fourth season, I began to lose interest in the fiction and I no longer waited with anticipation for new seasons. The casting and acting were still superb, but the perspectives the story took left me feeling like we were intruding on the royal family. So, as I finished watching the series finale, today, (despite a creative and moving final episode), my rating for the last seasons had fallen to a 6 (disappointing). I give the whole series an 8 (brilliant in part) out of 10. [Fictionalized Historical Drama
This series was certainly quite innovative in its premise - analyzing the recent history of the ruling dynasty, it had to draw on publicly available knowledge as well as guesses that did not necessarily cover reality 100%. The production was successful, although at least a few episodes begged to be edited/changed in the script.
This show's quality really ended up matching the British Empire's trajectory
According to Netflix final Season 6 is coming in 2023 (personal most likely november, but this is not confirmed)
Season 6 is coming to Netflix oktober-december 2023, final Season according to Netflix
When I started this show, I could never had imagined for a second, that I would reach a point where I actually lose all interest and drop out.
The first season was great in every regard. The second was slightly down. There were a couple of episodes I really didn't like. But I had no idea it was the beginning of a downward spiral. It became a different show with season three. Replacing the whole cast was a huge mistake. It took me right out of the show especially since there isn't a massive time gap in the story. But while I reached a point midway through the season where I could live with them, the focus shifted more and more away from historical and political facts to marriage proplems, relationships and love affairs. And that I cared little for.
With season four it was a full blown soap opera where the focus seemd to be only on Charles and Di where it was perfectly clear which side the writers were on. I made it to episode three of that season and decided this is no longer worth my time.
Sad, they had a gem here with a marvelous cast and decided to do a complete one-eighty.
My rating reflects the average of all the episodes I've seen. Which comes to 7,06 but I'm certain it would have gone down had I continued.
A well made documentary where you follow the inhabitants on the island of the inbreds. I miss the David Attenborough narrative though, but the behaviour of these unique species are self explanatory and fascinating to watch for us normal people as you ask yourself if this actually could be true.
The perfect combination of politics and emotion.
what an aberration! dignifying novelty. a portray of queen Elizabeth as if she was a well intentioned person, good lord, what a joke. royalty makes me puke.
To know more about of The CCU you’ll need to watch The Kings Speech and Darkest Hour before The Crown
OMG. Where the 4th season ended...kills me! Please, I can't wait for the next season.
i didn't like the show. The direction and writing was as if they tried to shove a narrative down our throats every season...that is not how a tv show should be specially one that discusses real life stories
Despite the position of power and influence on the world stage, the Crown's most powerful moments are the one's more personal and relatable.
Since I was a child, I have always loved fairytales. My father bought almost every single Disney film for us before we were born. Therefore, I always wanted to be a Princess. According to my mother, when I was younger, I wanted to be a ballerina, a bride, a mother and a princess. Although I believe I can still be a bride and a mother, it is very difficult for me to be a princess.
Well, some people had the opportunity to fulfil my childhood dreams. And “The Crown”, on the last season, showed the People’s Princess, Lady Diana, to be a ballerina, a bride, a princess and a mother, respectively.
I love this Netflix series. Even though it is partially fiction, I believe we can learn more about Great Britain, its History and challenges, and also the dramas and happy moments of the royal family.
While the Royal Family is supposed to maintain an “ideal” and “far out of reach” aura surrounding them, I believe that, with this series, we can understand the reason for them to be so “far away” and create empathy with them.
To be Royal nowadays must be difficult. People are now a click away. We can send private messages to people we do not really know and feel close to people who are so far away. Also, nowadays we can all have an opinion about everything and share it easily. However, that is not how the Royals behave. They must always be unreachable and they must not share their opinions. Their behaviour must be perfect. Their reason to exist can be in danger with a simple error.
With “The Crown”, we can think about how difficult it is to please people around us. With a gesture or a word from us, someone can be hurt. However, we should be pleasable, someone who everyone thinks with kindness on their hearts. But, nevertheless, we must not be perfect. I, usually, put up standards of behaviour to strict for myself. Nonetheless, good habits (and manners) come with time and patience. My job is to be myself and make others see Jesus through me.
Life is no fairytale. But they exist to make us try to be the best version of ourselves.
Love love love this show! I cannot wait for the next season the minute it’s over, season over season. I absolutely love the writing, the stories, the character development, the cinematography, the craftsmanship. Absolute exquisite to watch!
The Crown is one of the most fantastic drama. The second season is as good as the first one. Country, family, crisis, sadness, happiness, love. Can’t wait for the next season...

I enjoy season 2 even more than the 1st one. I'm quite a sucker for the Princess Margaret story line. I'm here for everything that makes her happy.

I had the privilege of seeing the first two episodes at an advance screening event in Australia and have to say they are truly excellent. The writing, acting and direction are sublime and it, appropriately, looks like a million bucks (pounds?). There is just the right amount of humour and I was surprisingly moved by the story due to the stellar performances from the entire cast.
