Might be the episode I've enjoyed most so far, but I tend to prefer small stories that are just set on board the ship. There's some great character interaction here, notably between Kirk and McCoy. Bailey's emotional journey was simplistic, to say the least, but worked for the episode.

Classic Star Trek: a menace, a seemingly hostile alien race, a game of poker, deception, discovery, diplomacy, satisfying curiosity. Good.

An entertaining episode, and very well told. Plenty of suspense and tension. The character interaction was very good and we are back to good writing.

What an intriguing episode, introducing a mystery from the onset and holding the viewer in a tight grip all the time. It’s an intense ride, greatly held together by a fine mix of music, sound effects and acting. The tension is intercut with some of the most humane and warm character moments so far. This is a wonderful mix of sci-fi adventure, thriller and mystery. The Enterprise and the orb play a long game, and we see just how calm and calculating Kirk can be in hot situations. The lengthy first act is followed by a marvellous final act onboard the mother ship.

Challenge those perceptions! Lessons for all to learn.

Yes! This is what the 5y mission is all about.

PS Can someone please decide on the colour, cut and material of the uniforms. Is communications blue, red or yellow? Turtleneck, crew or some kind of wrapped neck; it keeps changing. LOL

Bailey just peaces out, and accepts living with a creepy alien kid? Cool cool cool.

This story takes place entirely on the ship's bridge and is a tense battle of wits with a malevolent force. It's got a twist ending as well, even though it's silly and features Clint Howard. This one features the large-headed, scary alien that you sometimes see in the closing credits of other episodes.

I absolutely love this episode. It's one of the first Star Trek episodes I can remember watching, so it has huge nostalgic value for me. And it has everything that I love about classic Star Trek: endearingly simple special effects, Spock and his comments on human emotion, creepy baby, and Kirks delicious nips.
