I really enjoyed this season, I tried to watch it slowly but it became so addicting after a few episodes haha. Something big happens pretty much in each episode, so it made me anxious because the situation kept evolving and turning over, with new characters and pieces to the puzzle. I like how different famous fairytales characters are living together and modernized. I liked pretty much all the characters, even the "evil" ones, which have this role from the stories but I felt way less in the real world, where it seems they struggle more with their "good" side or past. They keep being mean and obscure, yes, but I feel like they also show they're not like this all the time and there are moments when I wasn't sure who's acting how. You know Regina is the evil queen and she's the perfect villain here, but when you see how she behaves for Henry, and her past, that's what I'm talking about. Same for Mr. Gold, even tho I think he's worse in fairyland than here, where he's more a mix between bad and good, more subtle and silent maybe. I like the jumps from fairytale to modern world, it perfectly slowly explains why things happen. It annoyed me SO MUCH that I know since episode 1 that they're all from fairytale world, but they don't know it yet, and there's always something missing or going wrong and it takes a while before they start remembering, while I was like "come ooooooon, you're so close" haha
MY THOUGHTS ON SEASON ONE:
-WARNING: Spoilers Below-
Oh how I love this show! I've watched Season One now around 3 times, firstly back when it aired, secondly with my Mother and Sister and now my rewatch. Each time I fall in love with the show and it's magic draws me back in again.
My favourite part of this season is Rumple's mind games. I know it's such an easy thing to say is you favourite but my god does Robert Carlyle act incredibly! He absolutely carries this season which is incredibly difficult to do when he's surrounded by phenomenal actors and actresses!
My own personal complaint is Henry, when surrounded by all of these incredible Actors and Actresses I feel like he struggles to do his part and is the weak link, it makes sense seeing as he is younger but even when compared to the other child actors in the flashbacks he fails to impress. I find that when he is the lead in a scene he ends up making the scene quite... Uncomfortable which i feel is mean to say but it's the truth, hopefully as he grows up and matures he matures as an actor and starts carrying scenes better.
The best thing about this entire show is that there's no limits to who can come into the show, there's a way for any Disney character to come! I know it's impossible because they're PIXAR but imagine a season where an Astronaut crashes down in a desert and a cowboy finds him. It'd be such a cool way to introduce Woody and Buzz.
I absolutely can't wait to watch season 2, if you're reading this review before you've watched this season then let me tell you one thing... You're in for a treat!
From the creative team behind Lost comes the fantasy drama Once Upon a Time. In Season 1 a young boy named Henry seeks out his birth mother and attempts to convince her to come back with him to Storybrooke, Maine, in order to break a curse that transported the fairytale characters of the Enchanted Forrest to the real world and wiped them of their memories. The show is remarkably creative in how it re-interprets classic fairytales such as Snow White, Pinocchio, Cinderella, and Red Riding Hood, and in how it combines them into an interconnected story. Additionally, there’s some inspired casting in both the main cast and the guest stars that brings an incredible amount of charisma to the series. However, ABC undercuts the show (as they so often do) with cheesy effects and green screen sets. Yet the storytelling is so compelling and well-done that it’s easy to overlook the production issues. Once Upon a Time is an amazingly imaginative show, and it delivers an extraordinary adventure in its first season.
7,22/10 (personal rate for this season)
The concept is smart and I love every episode. I also love the graphics and the plot.
Rewatched season 1, after watching season 6 (not the end of the series, but the end of the story started here). It's interesting to see how things were built on the foundation season 1 set, each season adds more and more twists to the lore like an overstuffed Christmas tree, some of it ingenious some of it a bit of a mess (though I enjoyed it all except the Neverland arc)... but here in season 1 when things are simple and there was a tonal difference between Past and Present the show was perhaps at it's strongest.

I love how they've managed to link slightly adjusted common fairy tales into one big magical world, and continuing a consistent link to our "real" world.
Fantastic series, can highly recommend it.
Next up, season 2 ;)
