Holy shit, I wanted so much to high five that religious lady. In the face. With a car. [2]
Wow, the ending was brutal!!! Quite a good film though, kept me hooked from start to finish!
Never seen an ending like that before, that was great!
Started off well paced and with some forgivable clichés. Looked interesting.
The main characters were OK and the actors did a decent job. The crazy religious lady was truly awful. I really disliked her character as well as the direction she took the story. Go away! There are no fun characters in this movie at all, so it made its mind up as to which direction it wanted to go. Serious Did it pull it off? Nah.
The effects are pretty poor at times e.g the lighting of the effects didn't match the environment, the movement of the animations were not always convincing The monsters themselves were bland.. ... If this movie had non computer effects it would have benefitted a lot and added something interesting to admire.
Half way and things fly around and that's where it gets mediocre with the egg laying....alien meets arachnophobia meets the mummy etc...
Later it carries itself for a while on a more serious level. It doesnt work. Half characters having surface level tensions with some religious social commentary isn't exactly psycological or meaningful stuff. Religious lady is even more annoying.
Soon a boring military science plot is revealed. Riiiight. This movie doesn't seem to know what style it wants to be. Too much flirting with many elements. Unfocused. What was the end goal of this movie exactly?
At times it seemed to want to entertain but then restricted itself of fun characters to try and be serious. It tried to be serious but the messages were weak and the character study was to basic.
A very average and forgettable movie. The ending was ridiculous. I didn't feel the tension or see the logic leading to that particular moment so it seemed out of place. It seemed forced to try and have some realistic, meaningful or dark feel. If only he had waited one minute longer. Duh. Some say it's a message of not giving up and faith. Well if so, that message failed like all the rest. The real message was, check your mirrors and learn to count bullets.
It would have been a great ending in a different movie. It started off half promising and got worse.
Excellent film. However now I'm very depressed.
What the fuck, the ending, why, just why do that to us?!
The movie starts off quite good. It's intrigues you and has a good setting, and then it just becomes so dumb.
As the blurb says, it's about people who get stuck in a grocery store in a strange mist, and starts off being about their relationships and the mob mentality kinda thing. Despite the sci-fi setting (strange mist) it's quite relatable to modern relationships, and you think it's going to be quite character driven.
About half way through it just gets stupid though. Some of the action sets in and characters will so frequently be reacting so unrealistically to things (eg. a whole group of people staring at danger instead of running away) and it's not because the director thought people would be shocked like a deer in the headlights... it's so obviously so they can get "cool action shots" or have someone die to create a plot turn.
The story is based on a novella by Stephen King. The narrative of the story was actually alright, but I feel the direction and awful Hollywood dialogue ruined it.
That ending is the best!!
I love and hate this movie.
Sad & not expected ending, but this what makes the movie great. Just put yourself in his shoes!
I finished book and get to see movie one more time...Well, book was a little better. The beginning was almost the same, but the end was completely different. I have to say I liked better the ending in the movie, but otherwise the book was better. For me was very frustrating that every time anyone goes out they walked slowly..something was attacking us, OK let's just calmly treat the wound and then we get out...WTF..same with the car with Ollie...let's just open the doors and wait for something to eat me...other than that it was pretty OK.
Fantástico.. Realmente bom.. Final surpreendente
Great movie, more of a classic Sci-Fi B movie (my favourite). Mostly set in one location and lots of focus on characters and their responses to challenges as they arise. certainly a lot better than the multi million dollar tripe they are peddling now.
bruh that ending so sad i didn't expect that
Just realized he was drawing the gunslinger from the dark tower in the beginning
That ending makes anyone crazy!
a good and Illusionary movie
The ending made me stand up and aplaud. Much better than the book. Bravo sir, bravo!
I was surprised to see 3 actors from The Walking Dead in it.
Well it definitely didn't end how I expected it to. Loved it.
This is an alright one time horror flick. Acting was good, and plot was unpredictable at the end. Overall, a 6/10 from me....
This is an enjoyable horror flick that subscribes to a less-is-more set of rules. There are a lot of monsters in "The Mist", but much of the killing they do appear off-screen.
There's some really good dialogue and interesting characters here. Just what you'd expect from Stephen King. The premise of where the mist came from is explained but left me wanting to see its point of origin.
The ending of this movie is very shocking, some might even call it controversial. It's difficult to offer an opinion on it without giving it away. It's simply one of the cruelest injustices ever bestowed upon a main character. I normally like darker endings, and I did like this ending the first time I saw it in the theater. However, upon later viewings, it's too grim and it's extraordinarily mean.
Love this film not for the faint hearted
I hate the ending afs
what a waste of time
One of the most unexpected and craziest apocalyptic movies I've ever watched. Frank Darabont has one of the most sophisticated minds, and it's obvious from how deep things go, from the government to religion to the end and beginning of times. I loved the mockumentary type of filming, I say mockumentary, because i laughed at the execution and scriptwriting for so many of the scenes, and the black and white makes it that little more memorable The horror really got to me in some parts, but it really hit when the credits rolled and i was too stunned to move. It's haunting even after watching.
Well, not the ending I expected. I can't imagine how much that would suck.
I LOVED that the ending is a BAD ending!
Almost everyone in this movie is so frustrating and had no common sense in the time of emergency, can You imagine trying to light a torch but get burned instead?! No one thinks that
World come to an end but instead of surviving, they choose to kill themself, DAMN!
For a 17-year old movie, this still wasn't half-bad. The creature effects were a little dated, I have to admit (if I'm being honest) but it was still a decent film. In my opinion, this is one of the better screen adaptations of a Stephen King story. (I've read almost all of his books and most of the screen adaptations I am NOT a fan of.) Despite being quite aged, though, I still found this to be a great "creature feature" movie that plays on most of our fears of the unknown, the "something's out there" paranoia that most of us would feel while trying to traverse some deep fog, whether on foot or in a vehicle. The acting was decent by most, in spite of there only being a few recognizable names in the cast. Props to Marcia Gay Harden for her supporting role as "Mrs. Carmody" because she really had me itching to see her "get hers", so to speak. She finally did but it was far too fast and to merciful for what she deserved. LOL Andre Braugher (RIP) of Brooklyn Nine-Nine fame was brilliant and left the story far too early, IMO. The others, as I mentioned, were decent in their roles, certainly playing the parts well enough in a film where the creatures and the mist itself was the primary focus. The huge plus that King's novella had over the screen adaptation was, IMO, the ending. I suppose, had they left the ending in the film as it was in the story, there would have been numerous complaints or questions that detracted from the art of the story itself. Along with that, the novel didn't have that oh-so-annoying droning soundtrack in the waning moments; nothing against the soundtrack itself (as far as the MUSICAL score) but man that "ahhh ooohhh aahhhh.. angelic choir or otherworldly ghastly voices" thing was... well, to quote Princess Fiona from her famous scene with the Merrymen in Shrek : "Man, that was annoying!!!!"
It has its gruesome moments, it's loaded with tension and suspense, it has plenty of characters that you can buy into (some more easily than others), and it has bugs, tentacles, and other things that go "bump" in the fog. Not a bad movie for one of those evenings that you're bored and just want something to entertain you while being mildly spooky at the same time. I've watched this before (a couple times, I think?) and wouldn't be averse to watching it again sometime. I'd love to see a modern-day reboot of this with some modern CGI effects to really ramp up the creatures but again, they weren't ridiculously silly like some movies this old are. I enjoyed it all over again.
This movie will ever be known for its ending. such classic
I knew nothing about this film. That ending was shocking, even more so that the studio approved, since historically they are against sad endings. Although I felt the "for what?" was unnecessary. The performance said it all.
The religious nutjob came off as a caricature but then you see how mainstream Christian extremism has gone in US politics that her dialogue feels very realistic.
Why not wait in the car if it's safe ? or stole another car maybe ?
what a dumb movie.
The Mist is so close to being terrible. Some of the character writing is bad, some of the acting is bad, some of the plot details are bad. However, there are just enough redeeming qualities to keep the film in the watchable column.
The CGI tentacles in the beginning were pretty laughable, even considering it was 2007. Marcia Gay Harden is doing top tier work as the religious zealot, and Thomas Jane is great as the hero, it's a shame he didn't have a more prolific acting career.
The pacing is not great, it really drags in the beginning and I was starting to get a little bored by halfway through. Thankfully it picks up a lot in the second half. I also try to cut the characters in horror movies some slack when it comes to making quick decisions, but the way people just freeze and couldn't close the door when poor Norm got taken by the tentacles, PLUS, when Thomas Jane yells "they're attracted to the light! Turn out the lights!" those same guys who froze start running around turning ON all the lights! Idiots!
And after all that, what a devastating ending for Thomas Jane, OOF
The ending is a mockery !
I was not convinced by the ending, I think the screenwriters lacked a study of the human psyche. ;>
Hallmark Cthulhu? H&M Lovecraft? All the tired tropes you'd imagine and then some. Simpleminded hicks, arrogant big city lawyer, religious nutcase and of course main character Daddy Saviour and his crew. With the level of CGI it could be a parody but unfortunately it is not. Unexpectedly quality last scenes are a plus one. About everything until then is not.
The ending is not sad, it has a clear message - never give up.
Tommy, your timing is just downright horrendous
The definition of a late 2000's horror movie.. goofy practical effects blended with PlayStation 2 level CGI. Still this movie was made back when directors dared to have original ideas and felt more art driven then money.
7/10
this was so good wtf.
excellent movie very good effects and terror.
excellent movie very good effects and terror.
Overall enjoyed the movie though the monster visual effects were a bit dated. The movie is more about the people's reactions than the monsters or the fight against monsters.
I liked that there was no happy ending. The ending apparently is different from the original novella. I almost think this movie would be a good origin story for Thomas Jane's character with how he killed all his companions
Excellent creature feature plays on the unseen while showing you enough to not just be a tease. Truly one of the best endings to movies, not just horror movies, ever committed to the screen.
Overall, the older the film the better the quality, especially the older American films, the ordinary picture quality, the people of the past, the easier it is to see what the various characters in the film are showing from the perspective of a third party observer, religion, kinship, the fact that reason is unbearable under despair and that rather than tremble under it, one should actively choose to end it.
Extra star for the ending, good or bad it's still a wtf
Started off good then got a little predictable, and a shit ending
This time, the movie is better than the book.
Very tense and atmospheric horror film which is even better in its intended black and white form. However, a lot depends on the reaction to the final 5 minutes of the film, without giving anything away is certainly unforgettable. Delivering the same message of the importance of faith and hope in the face of utmost despair that Shawshank Redemption did, though not quite in the same manner, Darabont doesn't deliver a cathartic response to the rest of the film that is sorely needed, instead choosing to emphasise his point in a different way and, whilst admirable in a sense, it is ultimately to the detriment of the film. A five star film otherwise.
This is a poorly shoot movie with mediocre acting like most of Stephen king's based movies. However I feel the ending is just right up the alley of SK, although not precisely accurate.
do not. just do not.

No happy ending. Loved it.
