The Mist 2007

Very tense and atmospheric horror film which is even better in its intended black and white form. However, a lot depends on the reaction to the final 5 minutes of the film, without giving anything away is certainly unforgettable. Delivering the same message of the importance of faith and hope in the face of utmost despair that Shawshank Redemption did, though not quite in the same manner, Darabont doesn't deliver a cathartic response to the rest of the film that is sorely needed, instead choosing to emphasise his point in a different way and, whilst admirable in a sense, it is ultimately to the detriment of the film. A five star film otherwise.
