World Premiere Review:
It was ok. It's not entirely interesting and it's the standard Marvel formula. However, it's lacking a critical element of a Marvel hero: a flaw. The best thing about the MCU is that there isn't a Superman equivalent...but there is now and I'm not sure I like it. I'm afraid now that Endgame concludes with believing in yourself can defeat Thanos...

I read comics for almost 20 years, I saw all the marvel movies and all tv show (except inhumans), I found this film at best mediocre, and had moments of pure frustration.
What I liked:
Samuel L. Jackson's acting was very good, Stan Lee's tribute and cameo, Ben Mendelsohn and CG.
What i dislike
Brie Larson's performance (not all, but most, she seemed bored for most of the movie), 99% of the jokes, the genderswap of an iconic character (Mar-Vel), the predictable twist, she is very OP, the origin of the avengers name (completely ridiculous), the Kree vs. Skrull "war", Skrulls being the "immigrants", how Fury lost his eye, Fury just being a bitch when woman is around (the scene with him and Photon was cringe AF) .
and about the politics of the film: yes, they have a feminist / man (white) hate moments, it's not the same level as ghostbusters but not that subtle, especially the flash backs, all white man telling her she is not good enough and she should quit and the biker scene.
Now I'm worried about Avengers: End Game, if the CM defeats thanos or has more screen time than the original cast, I'll never spend money again to see another marvel movie.
You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain = MCU

this movie will take you on a journey. as you travel through every scene, you will expect to see Brie Larson emote, have some other expression except for the smug one she is fixated with. and that journey will end fruitless.

everyone , EVERY CHARACTER except the "leading ladies" did good acting. even Minn-erva and Keller's wife acted much better than Brie for God's sake.
The film had so many scenes and things that didnt land simply. so many things were simply off. whoever worked on the "LOOK" simply failed on Maria. again i have nothing against the actress. but she horribly failed to look like a mother and ex-pilot.

Even technically the movie fails to impress. no beautiful shots. no superb moments.
I cant believe they had the chance to reveal the captain marvel costume first time in awesomeness like WW did on the battlefield. and they do it with the little girl (who surprisingly knows how to handle Kree bracelet because.... reasons) on their lawn...... in dark..... yay.......

so Captain Marvel doesnt have a love interest.... well done. wonder woman did that , and it went beautifully. you dont have to fill the movie with it. but a love interested should be there right? unless you justify the plot with it. but here the lack of love interested simply screams. IM A WOMAN I DONT NEED A MAN!!! . dr. strange didnt want to focus on a love interest. but she was there. it showed dr. strange's emotional graph and vulnerability.

Brie Larson ruined the character of Captain Marvel
The only Marvel movie with a woman as the main character and they make it this boring.. I’m very disappointed, I expected more. Plus, a lot of scenes were just forced to combine things untold in the old movies with new things for the upcoming one; scenes that resembled Spiderman aND guardians of the galaxy... and c’mon fellow people from Italy, tell me her powers don’t remind you of the protagonist of the cartoon/tv series W.I.T.C.H.

This was totally disappointing.
The whole movie revolves about her finding her identity allegedly, but she never ends up being the main focus of the narrative, They wanted a strong female character who fights her own battles but made her a confused character with no sense of self. Entertaining but not all that. I'll stick with Wonder woman when it comes to super ladies that can kick ass for now.

This movie honestly felt like a comic book. The plot feels ripped out of the pages. It's fun, entertaining, and a really good film. Kamala was the highlight, of course. But Monica and Carol were great. I loved how the villain was connected to Captain Marvels past. Her decision to destroy the Supreme Intelligence gave realistic consequences.
My only cons for this film would be, 1. a more fleshed out villain. She was good but never got to feel the pain as we should. 2. The emotional scenes should've been even more emotional. They were sad and stuff but they were one and done scenes. 3. The final fight sequence was too fast-paced. Other than that, great film.
One of the most stunning marvel movies of all time. I love the design and the editing and the cgi of this film. It's like eye candy for the first viewing but on rewatch I cant help but notice how boring it is. It felt like 1 hr and 30 mins of playing catch and finding out things that don't even matter later, then action packed huge amazing scenes. Brie Larson is amazing though her character feels sparky.

The thing i really didn’t like is that they made Carol Danvers really overpowered at the end and with that she let the main villain and Ronan the Accuser live like it wasn’t an issue.

Actually has one of the better stories of any MCU film, I like the Total Recall/Bourne Identity angle that they’re working in here and there are more themes at play than your average MCU fare. The comedy is also quite solid, with a lot of the humour coming from the 90s references. Most of the characters, as per usual with Infinity Saga MCU, are well defined and interesting. The movie even manages to pull off some genuine emotion when Larson and Lynch are acting together. The main character doesn’t work, however, as Marvel seems to be too afraid of putting her through the ringer in any significant way. The moment that completes her ‘arc’ in the third act doesn’t feel earned at all. Technically the movie sorta gets by, I think it’s generally lacking in style. Visually it looks way too drab and underexposed given its budget, occasionally the synths pop (and other times it uses generic strings) and the needle drops vary between cool and way too on the nose (e.g. the Nirvana and No Doubt ones are super lame). The action is pretty disposable, a lot of it is shot like basic coverage and not very memorable. All in all, it’s not an awful watch, but the movie at its core doesn’t entirely hold my interest.

It was a splendid movie. It may not be a masterpiece, but it has both heartwarming and bada** moments. As a whole, it's an enjoyable experience.
Carol is great,Talos is hilarious, Goose is the star of this how did Fury lose his eye mystery tour, overall it's not that bad.
I was confused and unsure at first but then I started to really enjoy this. It's by no means the best marvel story out there but I felt like it brought an element of fun and lightheartedness. This one probably won't be for everyone but I enjoyed itnfitnehatvitbwas.

The cat was the best thing about this movie.
Well no, it's solid, but I strongly dislike it nonetheless. I didn't like anything about this movie, but I recognize some people might love it.
CarolDenvars is the wrong captain marvel imo. It should be Genis-Vall or Mar-Vell. Especially if they planned on Cap Marvelto be the space protector she is they shouldn't pick Carol for this mantle.
But whatever, it's still somewhat watchable if nothing better is up.
Seriously, anyone who doesn't like this movie has a problem. Of course, it's no artwork, no Marvel movie is, but for an origin movie? Superior to most. My only problem is that Carol is very powerful from the start, but the problem is that it takes Marvel eleven years to make a film with a female protagonist. When they made, they needed she was amazing from the start to be able to save the day in the next movie. Character evolution is lacking. Sometimes it seems like she forgot that she lost her memory interacting with Maria, there could have been a conflict
Anyone who complains about her being "arrogant" is crazy, Tony is much worse and they love him.
p.s.: WHY CAROL AND MARIA DID NOT KISS??? They were clearly a Sapphic couple (I won't assume the sexuality of either of them)

You know what, I was expecting this to be a lot worse
"Captain Marvel" comes in a little too late in the MCU franchise, as if everyone forgot they needed to introduce the superhero before "Endgame". This rather bland space opera aims at introducing Carol Danvers, further expanding the MCU mythology outside of Planet Earth, and at the same time serving as some kind of prequel for Nick Fury. Despite many ingredients being on the plate none of them was particularly delicious. Maybe I watched it on a bad evening, but I struggled to stay awake throughout most of the movie.
She uses a Payphone to contact her friend in outerspace because "science"... and that should tell you everything you need to know about this movie
Pretty good but it fees like it could've been even better. The Stan Lee intro was very nice. I'll miss his cameos... :o Having Fury and Coulson in this was awesome and provided some nice insights into the early days of SHIELD (I only wish Coulson would've had more screentime). I'm somehow not that satisfied with their choice of the Captain Marvel actress. It's not that she's not good but I imagined Captain Marvel's character a bit different (mostly more badass, like her powers). I really wonder if a different character design and corresponding actress could've made this movie even better.
Only thing I can complain about really is some of the cgi. Carol's 3d model looked kinda off, like it was pretty obvious when you saw her vs her 3d model. Other than that I think it's a pretty solid movie.
Brie is an amazing actor, she plays a funny, charming, decent person.

I like the story that entails 'Captain Marvel'. It's possibly not told in the most incredible way, but by the end I did enjoy how it unfolded and connected to what we've seen recently in the MCU.
Brie Larson is pleasant in the lead role, a tad wooden in parts but overall I rate what she gives this film. It's cool to have Samuel L. Jackson's character get a deeper dive and bigger screen time than usual. I also liked Ben Mendelsohn as Talos. Other cast members, like Jude Law, are fine if forgettable.
Everything else about this is basically what you'd normally get from an MCU production: strong action, great effects, solid humour and an interesting plot. This 21st film from the universe is a good'un!

To be honest, this isn't really a revisit as I haven't seen this particular travesty before, but anyway...here goes.
What do you get when you take a Marvel hero almost no one cares about, put one of the most toxic and dislikeable persons of all time in the lead role, and then make an incoherent mess of a story to go with all that?
You get the dumbest, messiest, and most absurd superhero movie of all time. That is what you get. And if that wasn't enough, you make this "hero" the most important one for the future of your fictional movie universe.
Talk about utter stupidity...
Marvel/Disney...know your fans. Scrap this failed idea (read shitty "hero") and start over for Phase Four...please.
I actually liked this movie a lot more than I expected! It was really fun to see young Fury and Coulson. I also understand why they didn't introduce Carol until after Infinity War because she's super OP loll
I finally got around to sort of watching this - sort of bc I was bored often. I love all the marvel movies and lots of the shows to date but never had interest in this one. So I finally watched it and it’s just ehhh. I just couldn’t get into it. I don’t think you need to watch this in order to enjoy Endgame.
This film and Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) get way too much hate, I think as an origin story it nails the character perfectly and I loved the story with every single person bringing their best to the table. I have to say I think the stand out for me is Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) as they de-aged him and I believe that he was a younger very of himself, also the story by the end actually is very heartfelt.
I will say that I think the movie is almost too dark at times and can be a little boring as it has some cliches, but otherwise, its a fun enough watch and I think the movie needed some better direction but maybe the next one will be more solid.

I re-watch this more than other Action Sci-Fi movies...well, other than Alita.
I enjoy the pacing of her recovery...the memories and bonds before she was captured.
But, I also enjoy how her ability to form human bonds, and her power as a Person, are not dampened by her memories having been wiped.
This gives the viewer (me) a chance feel anticipatory emotions -- what we believe she would feel if she knew what we know...this is even more satisfying when we see her feeling those emotions after she recovers her memories, and re-establishes her bonds of her core relationships.
Sci-Fi is always less about space and science than it is about relationships and emotion, just with window dressing. Anyway, this is a great pairing of script and story to an ensemble of actors who support each others characters. And, I can't imagine anyone but Brie Larson playing Captain Marvel. I hope to see her more in this role.

One year later - nobody's talking about this, expect for me right now. All that fuss and name calling over an average by the book superhero movie.
One of the blandest and most forgettable movies of last year, which I just remembered to login as watched.
Brie Larson, who has proven in the past to be a talented actress with amazing range, but is unfortunately the weakest link in the movie. I thought her performance was incredibly wooden and the least interesting part of the movie. Her line delivery felt really off and there wasn't anything there for me to care about her character. All backstory with very little depth. It might have just been the poor material she was given to work with.
I'm sorry, but not once did I believe this is the strongest character in the MCU. The issue is that the movie does a terrible job of actually showing us that she is powerful and important. They tell us rather than show us. Like OK, she shoots lasers, flies around and has some magical glow around her. Am I suppose to be impressed?
The story itself is really messy and unfocused. It's trying so hard to be an origin story while also setting up the next installment for future movies, but also having a Bourne element into the mix of connecting pieces to the past.
Also I can't believe they did Lee Pace dirty. Not just once, but twice now!
However, there are some things I liked in the movie that stopped it from being the worst thing ever. I love the tribute to Stan Lee on the Marvel Studios opening intro, which was such a loving touch to his legacy.
The de-aging on Samuel L. Jackson was fantastic and shows us how far technology has come. Although towards the end the effects started to look a bit wonky for some reason. Jackson himself was charismatic and a blast to watch. It was interesting to see a younger and goofy version of Nick Fury before he gets super serious.
I love Goose the Cat, just don't let her anywhere near your eyes.
The Skrulls were enjoyable "villains" and Ben Mendelsohn absolutely shines as one of the Skrulls.
And that's really it for positives.

I went into this movie with somewhat low expectations. After all, it would be just another solo superhero flick by Marvel. I was not looking forward to watching it, to be frank. I mostly did so for the general MCU canon. I did find myself interested in what was happening, though. Surprisingly, the plot is one of the most solid aspects of the movie. I believe it sets up the whole Kree vs Skrull plot for later on, at least that is what I have heard. In any case, it's well-paced (definitely an improvement over the years in Marvel movies) and had enough twists and turns to keep me watching.
The characters were fine. None of the newer ones stood out to me too much, but they all were generally well-written. Each had their own motivation. Carol Danvers herself is alright. I can't say she is quite as charismatic as other MCU leads, but I certainly didn't hold negative feelings for her towards the end. Brie Larson's performance is good, though the most outstanding one here is certainly Samuel L. Jackson. As a matter of fact, I loved how this movie explored the backstory of central aspects to the MCU. It tied it very well to the overall narrative.
There was some doubt about the movie possibly being obnoxiously feministic, largely stemming from certain behaviour by Brie Larson. Honestly, there were only a handful of such moments in the movie, not obnoxious in any way. That being said, it is stuck in this weird line where it isn't overtly feministic, but it also does kind of want to make a statement. It doesn't succeed in the latter, having a couple of scenes that really just suggest discrimination towards women. I understand that it is difficult to balance the thread between the two extremes, though I feel it would have been better if the movie straight up removed these bits. They barely add anything wortwhile to the overall feeling of the movie.
The 90s thematic has me feeling in a similar way. It's obvious that the direction was thought about this way: Guardians of the Galaxy did the 80s, so we will do the 90s. Great, right? Well, I mean, it's fine. The references aren't overencumbering. They just happen to be there. I will admit the only thing that slightly pulled me into watching this film was the inclusion of "Come As You Are" by Nirvana on the soundtrack. There's other great tracks "Celebrity Skin" by Hole etc. The thing is... They aren't integrated in a very natural way some of the time. Often, it just makes you go "Oh, right, this was set in the 90s". You've got Windows 95 PCs being used here and there, Blockbuster, Game Boys. It sounds good on paper, but it certainly doesn't succeed in transporting you back in that time and era. It just happens to be the setting.
The cinematography was serviceable. VFX were pretty good, as is standard for Marvel films.
All in all, Captain Marvel is a good movie. It did turn out better than I expected it to, and I found myself fairly entertained by what I was watching. I will see what the second offering has in store.
It was nice seeing a new MCU character. The story was OK, the de-aging CGI was done well. It would have been nice to see more of Danvers' background story instead of just the few short glimpses here and there.
MCU films have always been kid cartoons for older audiences, but even in this line of films Captain Marvel falls flat.
I didn't expect any nuance when seeing this film, but you know the film just takes the cheapest, easiest route possible when it decides that our characters are just brainwashed and lied all along instead of having some sort of agency in their restrained life. This kind plot robs the character from their complexity and dilemmas they have to face--in few ways displayed in Spiderman: Homecoming--and makes the struggle they have to face almost non-existent. Part of the problem is having the film plays like some sort of MTV clips: you have some moment defining scenes edited here and there, but there is no thread that joins all them together.
The amnesia plot could have been used to help working on Brie Larson's character, but they end up using it only for the big final reveal that "everything is hidden within you all along". Unlike what has been a staple in MCU origin story films, there is no struggle in Carol Denvers--there is nothing to overcome. Just click a button (or destroy one) and then you go unleash the fantastical power within. Perhaps it is the same reason why in the last third of the film the climax feels really abrupt and shows us not an empowered character but a terribly overpowered, picture perfect character that serves as nothing but power fantasies.
For a film that wants to get the empowerment/feminism message spread across, it ends up jailing Brie Larson with a plot that makes the character uninteresting and unconvincing in the most bland way possible. Carol Denvers is supposed to be this smart, determined woman, but she comes out as a wooden facade of the cool outfit she is wearing. "Feminism" remains a shallow part in the film, perhaps as braindead as the film's opponent, approached in such a tacky way like the scene where Larson confronts (steals) a catcaller's bike or sending mansplaining alien to outerspace.
It's unfortunate because the buddy cop section between Larson and Samuel L. Jackson is the best part of the film--with better character and better written story, it could be much more entertaining. It has flashy scenes and the many outfits can help boosting Disney's toys however, so there is that.
Space-themed superhero action that's reminiscent of Guardians of the Galaxy, minus the wealth of charisma and the groovy, well-placed musical cues. Captain Marvel tries to carve its own little niche in that last respect, with a heavy load of popular '90s radio hits spewed all over the place, but they feel far less curated and personal. In a few important scenes, such heavy-handed soundtrack choices actually detract from the action, rather than enhancing it.
The Captain herself, former test pilot Carol Danvers, is reserved and composed by design, a different cut from the brash Marvel template that takes inspiration from her military upbringing and fits her eventual role as a sort of galactic peace officer. This makes for a less colorful lead than we've been conditioned to expect from the mighty mega-franchise, and I can understand how that might rub a few fans the wrong way. Personally, I didn't have an issue so long as we were slowly unraveling the tangled threads of her origin story, but she'll need to find a richer supporting cast to thrive in future solo outings.
Lighter fare than I was expecting, and rather small in scale despite the veiled implications of a long-running interstellar war. Its throwback setting places this film in a unique position to explore and enrich the stories of several MCU playthings - Fury, the Tesseract, Ronan, the Kree - but even with those little curiosities, the whole thing feels a tad unnecessary.
Captain Marvel talk trash and she is cool and powerful, but the dangerous one really is Gus, the cat.

Easily my very favorite Marvel movie.
I’m not a fan of Marvel films this much is obvious if you read my reviews, but I do like the acting and ability of Brie Larson. Plus, I am a virtue signally soy-boy so I like the messages given to people of colour or women through these stories and films. It is a huge positive.
Unfortunately I do have to lump myself in with all the withered, dark-hearted, non-thinking, fan-boys out there who did not like Captain Marvel. Not because a woman, horror upon horror, plays the lead, not because another woman who is….whisper it…black plays her pilot friend, but mainly because in all honesty this is not a good film.
Captain Marvel for all it’s fun and colour and excitement and the excellent message that the female of our species can be as good as anyone, that compassion for those seeking shelter and safety is a good thing, that to not always judge everything on appearances are worthy and great messages to put across, but because they are delivered in a ham-fisted manner that grates even the soy-boy in me. All very commendable but surely talented directors, writers and actors can come up with better, more interesting, subtle and entertaining ways to get the messages across. This seemed very childish and simple in places. Perhaps not respecting your audience?
There are couple of inspiring speeches near the end of the movie that were only missing a soapbox and cheering crowds. It did not feel natural, nor did it seem to evolve from the story and characters, it seemed, as much as each set piece did, to be wedged into the story with a large hammer. Not a natural feeling at all.
Brie Larson is of course good in a limited role of jokey, super-ace pilot, who lives a lie on another planet, luckily Jude Law and his space-buddies have exactly the same sense of humour and style of living as we do on the planet Earth, or the Americans do at least. When is Marvel actually going to make aliens, good or bad, alien? It’s a huge failing.
The CGI, a mainstay of any Marvel film, is a bit hit and miss throughout the story and with some of the physics on display, particularly in crashing aircraft, it just looks what is it, made up of pixels and great artwork, but not real.
There is an attempt at humour and wise-crackery which so makes me hate Iron Man and like Spider Man and Guardian of the Galaxy but it falls between those two stools here, neither being annoying nor particularly funny although at times it is badly judged and out of place.
So, what we have here is apparently the most powerful and indestructible ‘hero’ in the Marvel Universe that basically puts paid to the rest of them. She is unbeatable but having said that, facing up to the all-powerful, only two weapons, quickly give-up Ronan the Accuser, she need not have been. What a dweeby final villain.
What I did find interesting and would have happily watched for a couple of hours was the development of Samuel L. Jackson’s character Nick Fury, that gave him a long back story, showed you how he started and why and was fun and interesting.
So, Captain Marvel, like Wonder Women, was a great idea with great ideals, values and messages to give its audience, but unlike Wonder Women it fluffed its lines. What could have been a good film was a sprawling mishmash, of the good, mundane and bad and wasted a lot of talent into the bargain.
Having said a film with two directors, and three screenplay writers maybe is trying to prove that too many cooks do indeed spoil the broth, even a tasty broth.

I've always been a fan of strong female characters. My first celebrity crush was the original Pink Power Ranger, and most of the ones I've had since were best known for playing characters who were both powerful and feminine: Lizzie McGuire, Mindy McConnell, Mia Thermopolis, Maddie Fitzpatrick, etc. When I was a senior in high school, I wrote a novel (of sorts) about a super-heroine who, alongside her best friend/significant other, saved her entire town from the threat of a dastardly villain. Part of it was inspired by the first two Tobey Maguire Spider-Man flicks; however, I would never have even come up with such an idea if I hadn't seen my high school's production of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers...which featured a longtime female friend of mine as its lead. Looking back, I think the Disney sitcoms were a big influence, too.
So, to see a film center around a superhero of the fairer sex is a dream come true. True, we already got that when Gal Gadot wowed the world as Wonder Woman; still, Captain Marvel features a former Disney actress as its lead, so, in a way, I was more eager to see her flick than Diana Prince's. The fact that it takes place in the 1990s--complete with grunge music on the soundtrack and a scene in a Blockbuster Video location--had my curiosity piqued even more.
While good for what it was, it wasn't quite what I've come to expect from Marvel. Superhero movies usually have epic battles and lots of excitement; though there was some action towards the end, parts of this film were a bit dull. Brie Larson is attractive, but, her acting leaving something to be desired here. If this wasn't a Marvel flick and didn't feature a female superhero, I wonder if it would have gotten nearly as much acclaim as it has.
I was aware of all of the nonsense and outright garbage surrounding the haters and their attempts to torpedo this movie, but did my best to avoid the barrage. Nonetheless, I was in no particular hurry to see it even though I strongly suspected that most of the negativity was unjustified.
Having said that, I wasn't expecting to have anywhere near as much fun watching this as I did. Sure, there were the usual plot problems here and there, but overall it was a well-paced movie with likable characters and just the right amount of humor in the dialogue. The rapport between Fury and Marvel, in particular, was much stronger than I'd been expecting. This was an all-around solid effort by Team Marvel and just makes the haters that much more idiotic in my view.

This was definitely yet-another-marvel-origin-story, so it had most of the tropes you're all used to by now. You also get great production values, some cool sci-fi action, and the always amazing Brie Larson. Marvel has done a stellar job with casting their superheroes and this is another top notch match. All that being said...I've been over the formulaic Marvel solo movie format since probably the first Captain America film, so even for as competent and engaging each new Marvel solo film is, there's diminishing returns. Anyhow, I liked it, but wished I would have loved it.
Captain Marvel was pretty traditional Marvel fair.
I thought the movie was fun the whole time, but there wasn't any real substance to it. The way they shot the movie, nothing ever felt like a challenge or struggle even when on screen that's what you were watching. I never felt like there was a scene that felt dire.
I enjoyed Everyone's performance in the movie, and nobody felt out of place, the story and emotions of each scene just fell short.
All in all I enjoyed it, but don't really need to go out of your way to see unless watching through the MCU.

This movie just keeps getting better,it was Stan Lee's best cameo and it was the best story telling MARVEL ever did,I don't get it why people don't like the lead,Brie Larson played captain marvel perfectly.
It's really sad that all this ended in the phase 3 of MCU.Hope there will be a part 2 in the future.
Marvel delivers its first female centric superhero film with Captain Marvel, a prequel to the Avengers series. After escaping capture by the Skrull, a Kree soldier named Vers gets stranded on Earth where she discovers that the Skrull are searching for something and during her investigation she unearths a past that she never knew about. Brie Larson gives a decent performance, though she’s clearly doing an imitation of a Tony Stark-like character (which there are already too many of in the MCU), and the supporting cast is pretty strong; featuring Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, and Djimon Hounsou. Unfortunately the script is rather poor, as it desperately tries to avoid telling an origin story while also ham fistedly forces one in at the same time. But the action-scenes and fight sequences are fun and exciting, and there’s some lighthearted comedy that works really well (particularly the Stan Lee cameo). Also, the soundtrack is incredibly well-done; using ‘90s music to set the tone and time period. Despite some flaws, Captain Marvel is yet another solidly entertaining pop-corn film from Marvel.
Decent, I'll never watch it again however.

So, Captain Marvel is okay.
It's nothing really spectacular. The action is passable, the acting is passable (aside from Samuel L. Jackson, who does an amazing job as always), the music is passable, essentially everything is just passable. I don't necessarily hate anything about this film, besides the clear agenda Marvel pushed here with the "female lead kicks butt so powerful wow" thing. And, while I've yet to see Wonder Woman, I've heard that it does that so much better and more subtly.
Captain Marvel herself isn't really that interesting of a character. I don't know if this is Marvel's fault, or Brie Larson's fault with her wooden performance, or simply both. But a good example is that throughout the film, she's constantly told "hey you shouldn't let your emotions get to you" but we're never really SHOWN that, unless her just using her powers really qualifies as that. I thought the twist with the Skrulls was clever and well done, and I've already praised Sam Jackson, but aside from that this was just a painfully average film.

I enjoyed this but not the best marvel movie i have watched, i found that the flashbacks kinda annoying and just seemed to be jumping back and forth too much.
I wish the the way she developed in the film was more like how they showed you Captain America as you felt more for the characters arc and felt like he was a real hero who struggled and fought for what is right, but with all the jumping back and forth between powerful and not, felt like it could have done with an extra 30mins of showing her struggling in her young life to be a pilot as they just glossed over her struggles to the point where it did not really matter.
I felt brie was pretty wooden and not that likeable but also the writing was pretty poor overall which might be why i felt that way. Would have been a much better movie with a better actress.
Loved the cat though :)
I tend to watch all the marvel movies and had to watch this for that reason but i could have been so much better.

After the horrible trailer, I expected worse. Not bad, not great, painfully average. Would really prefer if this was a movie about Fury, or the cat. The cat was the best.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. If Marvel can still make movies like this then where does that Thor: Ragnarok and Spiderman sheit came from ? (all subject to personal taste, of course)
The movie sure isn't the re-invention of the wheel but in the context of the superhero genre it was solid entertainment. I am in a bit of a standalone watch mode with these movies as I usually don't remember every detail of the whole MCU shabang so this might also worked in favor here. It works pretty well as a standalone. Sam Jackson is really cool and I think he and Larson do have good chemistry. And I liked her, too.
For me it comes down to the question: do I want to see more of Captain Marvel ? And I can answer that with yes.

This movie was fun. Exactly what it should be. Maybe not enough character development, maybe bad directing on the hand to hand combat, or other things that would annoy me in an artistic movie. But this was fuuuun. Tied with Avengers for my favorite marvel movie. Sam Jackson as a cat wielding, wise cracking, greenhorn? Yes please. Jean Grey style superhero? Yup. Didn't go overboard with the nostalgia references. Even the jokes work in this movie which is something I can't say for most marvel, or action, movies. Had a forced topical-moral-agenda storyline that slowed the movie down, but it was fun despite it. And I appreciated how this was a movie with a hero that happens to be female instead of falling into lifetime tv feminism like wonder woman.

Was an ok movie for Marvel's standard
Captain Marvel is a solid standalone movie.
But in the Gigantic awesomeness that is the M-C-U
it just feels like a filler.
I wasn't really convinced at first, when i learned, that an Oscar-winning actress is taking over as the "new" super heroine "Captain Marvel".
As I wanted to see it before the "Avengers: Endgame", i went yesterday to the cinema. I won't be talking much about the actual movie, but more why I actually liked it so much.
I was mostly surprised, how the character got developed. Many of you here are criticizing that. ¨The fact that Vers is human took me by surprise. I don't know the comic. I know."
The special effects where just awesome. It was a joy to watch the movie. Will watch it again.
Extremally disappointed with this one. Had so high expectations, first Female Hero solo on Marvel, so much room to leave us excited and pumped up, so much could be prepared in anticipation for the Avengers...
It's a simple movie, with a dull main character, Ms Marvel is set without empathy or charisma. History leave us with no explanations and script gives a Villanova that one simply forgets, he is not built so one can hate of love him, he was supposed to be the mentor and only friend of Danvers, that should mean something, it's a relationship that to have a treason as such would be painful and should really disturb both she and the audience... but the Villain does not grow enough not even to be hated.
Captain Marvel is designed as a badass strong for the sake of being strong, and that makes she lack relatability.
Not even mentioning the political bias that makes the Skrull innocent refugees. That is wrong for the marvel memory and for it's fans... All people can be either bad or good, we had Ronan an evil Kree, and all could have peace with it, a people of honored warriors can have bad hateful individuals. But then Marvel sets Kree as an all bad nation, those with strong sense of duty as representing evil. And on the other side the Skrull, race that has done evil all over is now a nice funny friendly all-must-be-protected race. Skrulls can be good, is not a genetic trace the evil, but how can an entire race be set as evil or good and past be erased like that? Question goes for Skrull and Kree alike.

I like it a lot ! i really don't know much about the MCU i just watch the movies, i'm not a fan of comics so i don't know how accurate or it follow the correct comics or whatever of the MCU. I can be a critic of the movie. It started slow and with different angle, but after the "landing" the story took a good turn with many laughs and good fights. I enjoyed the twist and the whole origin of the Avengers as it was presented in the movie, good job on Fiury and Coulson de-aging. Brie was ok and at the end you had a very entertaining movie.

Captain Marvel might be the most controversial film in the whole franchise. I have some grievances with this one, namely lack of any style or originality in the writing or direction but the chemistry between Brie Larson and Samuel L Jackson helps to make this an enjoyable watch. I know you probably don’t agree with me but I like this movie, so there!
I don't know if it's the anticipation of Avengers 4 or something but for some reason I just couldn't connect with this movie. It's one of those movies were my whole body & mind was just waiting for it to end
There's one fighting scene where the music it's not well synced with the mood.. that scene should be louder, I guess, but it was kinda muted. Otherwise a very good movie! Loved it all!

I absolutely loved this movie and the storyline was intriguing, the visuals were amazing and I definitely stan the whole damn squad!!! However, I did get the feeling that this movie was released to tie up some of the "loose ends" the MCU had left... :thinking: I also feel like they coded Carol as a wlw, but that they decided to not do it in the end. Spoiler, but not specifically plot-wise :eyes:: It would not have been hard at all to make it a wlw romance either, Carol and Maria were pretty much raising an adopted child together and from what I can see they also lived together. The movie just slapped the "best friend" and "Aunt Carol" label on it and decided it'd be fine, though.

8.5 out 10. Marvel does it again. They know their characters and bring them to life better anyone doing it now. Even the changes make sense: I love who really are good folks vice bad individuals, Mar-Vell, Jude Law, Annette Bening, what makes a family, the possible of future black girls magic, etc. Marvel is just good at this shit.
Brie was awesome and bad ass. There was no damsel in distress story line or male love interest. Her and Sam had great chemistry and seemed to enjoy each company.
Okay, it was alright but nothing brilliant and that's because It lacked the energy but does beat some of the MCU movies and loved the 1990s feel to It and I couldn't complain on the casting, (Brie Larson) plays a good (captain marvel). The film had some good action but didn't really get big till the end so I was disapointed in that. Goose is by far my favourite character and hope to see more of her XD
