This movie, in my opinion, is a breathe of fresh air, and an AMAZING origin story, with so many great easter eggs. There's also a good level of laughs without making it cringe at all. The issue with MCU lately is too many big names in each movie, but the level of characters in this is great. Definitely one of my top, if not my new top favourite MCU movie. Go watch it!
Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, shit on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it.
BRIE LARSON, I love you, thank you for give what the fanboys hate: a strong female character.
Captain Marvel is here to pull the rug from under 'em all MCUs !!
The plot, the action, the friendship "instead of the usual romantic interest" the OTP of Carol and Fury, the cat! the 90's references, I just can't wait to see it again.. and again
i love it SO much
Brie is amazing!
I wasn't really convinced at first, when i learned, that an Oscar-winning actress is taking over as the "new" super heroine "Captain Marvel".
As I wanted to see it before the "Avengers: Endgame", i went yesterday to the cinema. I won't be talking much about the actual movie, but more why I actually liked it so much.
I was mostly surprised, how the character got developed. Many of you here are criticizing that. ¨The fact that Vers is human took me by surprise. I don't know the comic. I know."
The special effects where just awesome. It was a joy to watch the movie. Will watch it again.
I think you guys rock
I absolutely loved the movie! The story was great and told in a very interesting way. Brie Larson is the perfect fit for Captain Marvel and the MCU tie-ins were so cool! Just a brilliant film. So stoked for Endgame now!
This movie made me want to read comic books again. So well done!
Just watched it in theatre. Had to say, this is an amazing movie. Brie Larsson really nailed it as Captain Marvel. The storyline is good, action sequences are good too. Will go tomorrow to watch it for the second time. Don't miss this awesome movie guys.
Undaunted by reviewers and critics, alike, who were giving the movie a 6 out of 10 when the day began, I (with adjusted expectations) ventured out to see this movie which I had highly anticipated. I thought it was really good. I wonder, if I had not adjusted my expectations and gone to see it, still seduced by the advertising hype which led me to believe this would be Marvel's challenge to WONDER WOMAN (which I have now seen 3 time and gave an enthusiastic 9 out of 10), would I have felt let down (as it seems others felt after the opening night). Perhaps. But, having been cautioned by early opinions, I found the story to be clear cut, the performances to be solid (Brie Larson was spectacular), the Marvel humour to be fully present and appropriate to the tone of the characters and the special effects great. In my ad hoc exit poll (OK, more like casual chats with others as we exited the theatre) I found others also enjoyed it. So, I am giving this film an 8.5 (really good) out of 10. So, I say - Go see it - let it stand on its own merits - and I think you'll like it, too. [Superhero Adventure]
I wasn't looking forward for this movie, but boy i'm happy i saw it! The story is amazing, the music, sounds, the graphics, couldn't help it but it had a Guardians feel to it. Not to mention Ronan and Korath being in it ofc. I love Goose too, thinking about calling my next cat Goose haha. The backstories were awesome and if you grew up in the 90's it's so much more fun, and ofc the extra credit scene to rule them all and bind them all together.
I have been waiting for this movie for a long time. Being a huge fan of Captain Marvel I had high hopes. I was not let down. The film is fun, action packed and really funny. It starts off slow but it kicks into high gear about 15-20 minutes in. Brie is a spot on Carol. Sam Jackson seems to be having a blast. Ben Mendelson is excellent. And Goose the Cat steals every scene he’s in. There are some great twists and explanations to certain things in the MCU.
I absolutely loved this movie and the storyline was intriguing, the visuals were amazing and I definitely stan the whole damn squad!!! However, I did get the feeling that this movie was released to tie up some of the "loose ends" the MCU had left... I also feel like they coded Carol as a wlw, but that they decided to not do it in the end. Spoiler, but not specifically plot-wise :eyes:: It would not have been hard at all to make it a wlw romance either, Carol and Maria were pretty much raising an adopted child together and from what I can see they also lived together. The movie just slapped the "best friend" and "Aunt Carol" label on it and decided it'd be fine, though.
Easily my very favorite Marvel movie.
Very good. Movie good for the movie for the family
This movie just keeps getting better,it was Stan Lee's best cameo and it was the best story telling MARVEL ever did,I don't get it why people don't like the lead,Brie Larson played captain marvel perfectly.
It's really sad that all this ended in the phase 3 of MCU.Hope there will be a part 2 in the future.
There's one fighting scene where the music it's not well synced with the mood.. that scene should be louder, I guess, but it was kinda muted. Otherwise a very good movie! Loved it all!
The problem with movies like Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman is that we put too much weight on them. It can't just be a good movie because try to rest the future of all female movies on one origin story, which is ridiculous. Wonder Woman was lucky in that all previous DC movies were pathetic so it didn't have too much to live up to, though it highly exceeded all expectations. The problem with Captain Marvel is it's being compared to 10 years of Marvel movies. We're comparing it to Infinity War, to Civil War, to movies that were a culmination of years of character building. If you compare this to the first Captain America origin movie, its on par. If you compare it to the first Thor movie, its even better. And yet, instead we expect it to build on all that Marvel has done, which is impossible. No, it's not as good as Infinity War, and that's okay. For an origin story its good. And its silly to dislike it because of what it represents of because we're comparing to every othet Marvel movie. It's all silly to pretend that its better than all previous Marvel movies just because it has a female lead. Its good. As an origin story its good but it is not world shatteringly amazing. Its lacking some depth, some darkness and pain, more of a sense of overcoming. But its still good and I enjoyed it.
Captain Marvel Was Beyond My Expectations & I Just Love The Way Her Story Was Introduced In The 90s! An Action Packed Movie, Truly A New Captain In The Marvel Universe - It Introduced Her Storyline & A Total Setup For The Avengers Endgame - Loved Goose In The Movie, When You See It You Will Understand
Loved The 90s Nostalgia And How The Whole Story Was Developed With The Young Samuel L. Jackson aka Nick Fury & It Was Totally My Kind Of Humor! Another Hit For Marvel, I Love It And Cant Wait For More Captain Marvel

This movie was fun. Exactly what it should be. Maybe not enough character development, maybe bad directing on the hand to hand combat, or other things that would annoy me in an artistic movie. But this was fuuuun. Tied with Avengers for my favorite marvel movie. Sam Jackson as a cat wielding, wise cracking, greenhorn? Yes please. Jean Grey style superhero? Yup. Didn't go overboard with the nostalgia references. Even the jokes work in this movie which is something I can't say for most marvel, or action, movies. Had a forced topical-moral-agenda storyline that slowed the movie down, but it was fun despite it. And I appreciated how this was a movie with a hero that happens to be female instead of falling into lifetime tv feminism like wonder woman.

amazing story line....overall good movie.....and the acting of cat is mind blowing. I will never see a cat in normal way.
Post credit scenes was lit.
Waiting for Avenger end game
The movie was very well done. The story line was intriguing and kept you guessing. Excited to see Carol Danvers in Avengers:End Game!
I re-watch this more than other Action Sci-Fi movies...well, other than Alita.
I enjoy the pacing of her recovery...the memories and bonds before she was captured.
But, I also enjoy how her ability to form human bonds, and her power as a Person, are not dampened by her memories having been wiped.
This gives the viewer (me) a chance feel anticipatory emotions -- what we believe she would feel if she knew what we know...this is even more satisfying when we see her feeling those emotions after she recovers her memories, and re-establishes her bonds of her core relationships.
Sci-Fi is always less about space and science than it is about relationships and emotion, just with window dressing. Anyway, this is a great pairing of script and story to an ensemble of actors who support each others characters. And, I can't imagine anyone but Brie Larson playing Captain Marvel. I hope to see her more in this role.
The Good:
The Bad:
Verdict: It is a promising star for Marvel's cosmic heroine.
If you think you know everything about Carol Danvers, think again. This film is FULL of twists, fun scenes, emotional moments, excellent music choices and the most cute cat ever seen on a movie. For those complaining about Fury’s pager being given at the end of the story and having “no sense with the Avengers and other plotlines” just remember: Carol gave him the pager only for emergencies and all the Avengers were available on all of the previous events. YOU HAVE TO ADMIT SHE WAS VERY BUSY AT THE TIME GIVEN HELPING THE SKRULLS AND DESTROYING THE KREE EMPIRE.
this movie might fail to tell a well-rounded satisfactory origin story but its blockbuster action sequences are "mother flerken" great:ok_hand_tone1:
8.5/10
Past the main star of this movie with all the BS
heat she generated around it,
Captain Marvel is actually an awesome movie
and very entertaining.
And although it came straight from the left field
It fits in perfectly right before Endgame and the culmination 11yrs

Kudos to

CAPTAIN MARVEL WILL RETURN :zap::zap:
It was a splendid movie. It may not be a masterpiece, but it has both heartwarming and bada** moments. As a whole, it's an enjoyable experience.
This film and Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) get way too much hate, I think as an origin story it nails the character perfectly and I loved the story with every single person bringing their best to the table. I have to say I think the stand out for me is Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) as they de-aged him and I believe that he was a younger very of himself, also the story by the end actually is very heartfelt.
I will say that I think the movie is almost too dark at times and can be a little boring as it has some cliches, but otherwise, its a fun enough watch and I think the movie needed some better direction but maybe the next one will be more solid.
I always said that cats are evil creatures, spawn from hell... :joy:
"MCU's latest hero with an origin story that makes effective use of the franchise's signature formula."
I was aware of all of the nonsense and outright garbage surrounding the haters and their attempts to torpedo this movie, but did my best to avoid the barrage. Nonetheless, I was in no particular hurry to see it even though I strongly suspected that most of the negativity was unjustified.
Having said that, I wasn't expecting to have anywhere near as much fun watching this as I did. Sure, there were the usual plot problems here and there, but overall it was a well-paced movie with likable characters and just the right amount of humor in the dialogue. The rapport between Fury and Marvel, in particular, was much stronger than I'd been expecting. This was an all-around solid effort by Team Marvel and just makes the haters that much more idiotic in my view.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. If Marvel can still make movies like this then where does that Thor: Ragnarok and Spiderman sheit came from ? (all subject to personal taste, of course)
The movie sure isn't the re-invention of the wheel but in the context of the superhero genre it was solid entertainment. I am in a bit of a standalone watch mode with these movies as I usually don't remember every detail of the whole MCU shabang so this might also worked in favor here. It works pretty well as a standalone. Sam Jackson is really cool and I think he and Larson do have good chemistry. And I liked her, too.
For me it comes down to the question: do I want to see more of Captain Marvel ? And I can answer that with yes.
I like it a lot ! i really don't know much about the MCU i just watch the movies, i'm not a fan of comics so i don't know how accurate or it follow the correct comics or whatever of the MCU. I can be a critic of the movie. It started slow and with different angle, but after the "landing" the story took a good turn with many laughs and good fights. I enjoyed the twist and the whole origin of the Avengers as it was presented in the movie, good job on Fiury and Coulson de-aging. Brie was ok and at the end you had a very entertaining movie.
Finally we have movie dedicated to the teenagers from the 90-ties not the 80-ties. For great music and memories from that dedade I gave it +1.
6's and 7's from all of these commenters so far?!
This movie was very entertaining. Larson is Danvers just about as well as Downey Jr is Stark. She was a great choice. The movie had some awesome humor thrown in without it feeling forced.
I don't need to go into more details. It'd 100% worth seeing in theaters.
what makes HER a HERO is that she gets knocked down but she gets up again and you’re never gonna keep her down
Pretty good but it fees like it could've been even better. The Stan Lee intro was very nice. I'll miss his cameos... :o Having Fury and Coulson in this was awesome and provided some nice insights into the early days of SHIELD (I only wish Coulson would've had more screentime). I'm somehow not that satisfied with their choice of the Captain Marvel actress. It's not that she's not good but I imagined Captain Marvel's character a bit different (mostly more badass, like her powers). I really wonder if a different character design and corresponding actress could've made this movie even better.
Very good, it's entertaining.
I like the story that entails 'Captain Marvel'. It's possibly not told in the most incredible way, but by the end I did enjoy how it unfolded and connected to what we've seen recently in the MCU.
Brie Larson is pleasant in the lead role, a tad wooden in parts but overall I rate what she gives this film. It's cool to have Samuel L. Jackson's character get a deeper dive and bigger screen time than usual. I also liked Ben Mendelsohn as Talos. Other cast members, like Jude Law, are fine if forgettable.
Everything else about this is basically what you'd normally get from an MCU production: strong action, great effects, solid humour and an interesting plot. This 21st film from the universe is a good'un!
Captain Marvel talk trash and she is cool and powerful, but the dangerous one really is Gus, the cat.
This was definitely yet-another-marvel-origin-story, so it had most of the tropes you're all used to by now. You also get great production values, some cool sci-fi action, and the always amazing Brie Larson. Marvel has done a stellar job with casting their superheroes and this is another top notch match. All that being said...I've been over the formulaic Marvel solo movie format since probably the first Captain America film, so even for as competent and engaging each new Marvel solo film is, there's diminishing returns. Anyhow, I liked it, but wished I would have loved it.
I really enjoyed this movie, but I don't have the base of the comics to opine.
the only thing i didn't like on this film was because it's finish! it's enjoyable to watch and has a good plot twist. captain marvel is incredible, funny and a such character. also the cat is so cute.
rom pom pom pom man down
couldn't understand the outcry, definitely better than shazam
Marvel formula works everytime
That is another great example
the story and the whole "scrull are really the good guys" twist was weak as hell :))
but still an enjoyable film full of action, the proper amount of comedy relief moments and don't believe all the nay-sayers : Brie Larson is really plays ok and seams to play justice to the Captan Marvel character
Really liked this one. Feels full of joy, similar to Black Panther although not as good. Loved all the 90s nods and Goose!
I found the movie a lot of fun even if I was more interested in the cat. Than what Captain Marvel is capable of. I just don’t think it’s the greatest Marvel film I have seen, meaning from the studio.
Especially when She’s Just a Girl by No Doubt is played during a fight scene. That was a little cheesy.
The credits scene.. Oh god (goosebumps)!!
[7.4/10] Captain Marvel is essentially a phase one Marvel movie. That’s not a bad thing! The original dose of MCU superhero flicks are generally doubles more than they’re home runs, but each is enjoyable and establishes their characters nicely. The journey in each is clearly a personal one, as much about the hero becoming who they’re meant to be as it is about defeating the forgettable bad guys. That’s certainly true for Captain Marvel, where the nominally cataclysmic stakes, already diminished by the period setting, take a backseat to the audience getting to know this new character and her path to self-actualization.
And yet, it’s hard not to be a little disappointed in the staidness of the formula here. Over the last few years, Marvel has given us character introductions films in the way of Black Panther, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and even the fine-but-not-great Doctor Strange that offered something a little different, a little more striking than the old norm. Captain Marvel is a solid and entertaining rendition of the phase one form, but it’s tough not to wish for a film that broke the mold a little more.
Then again, maybe it’s enough that the MCU is breaking a different mold that it took Marvel Studios 20 films to crack. Captain Marvel is the MCU’s first female-led solo flick, and is self-conscious of that fact. The film is unabashed about the specific challenges faced by its title character because of her gender. And the movie carries a laudable message about embracing the emotion and the strength that women are otherwise encouraged to quell because it’s not expected of or embraced in them. To their credit, directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck didn’t just make a superhero movie starring a woman; they made one about being a woman.
The problem is that the film is fairly heavy-handed and cliché on this front. I’m not averse to important lessons needing to be shouted for the people in the back. But the bluntness of the “powers as emotions” metaphor, montages of generic sexism, and lines to the effect of “I don’t need your approval” lay it all on very thick. In an age where certain corners walked away from Black Panther thinking it was somehow an endorsement of the current U.S. administration, maybe films need to be that direct to make their points understood. But the foregrounding and standard delivery of those points lessened their impact for me.
But there’s plenty that the film does well. For one thing, it features an outstanding twist, where the squared-jawed, slick-looking heroes turn out to be the bad guys, and the orc-looking, shape-shifting scoundrels turn out to be sympathetic refugees. There’s a solid dose of Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s influence on Captain Marvel, but no more so than in the chosen one and her pals having casual, even jokey conversations with prosthetics-covered monsters who have more depth and character than their first impression would suggest. Ben Mendelsohn emotes through the rubber appliances with endearing aplomb, and reorienting of the game board that comes from his character’s reveals is one of the film’s strongest choices.
I just wish we saw more of an impact on Captain Marvel herself. For being the epiphany that changes which side of the fight the title character is on, the movie doesn't really linger on it, or give us much time to see our hero processing it. Instead, it’s just sort of a given that she’s swayed and bothered by this, and the movie jaunts off to Captain Marvel and her allies striking back. For such a devastating reveal, with lies that Carol Danvers had been catching onto already, I wanted more time seeing the protagonist dealing with it rather than the film just dashing off into the next set piece.
But they’re good set pieces, by and large. The third act CGI-palooza becomes too much at some points, with some odd Super Saiyan-y choices for Captain Marvel herself and the perfunctory, stakes-lowering presence of the villain from Guardians 1. But a series of cat and mouse chases through the stacks of a military facility, and a handcuffed throwdown with the Skrulls all have some nice verve and character in them. Like all of the cosmic-set Marvel movies, you lose a little punch (figuratively, definitely not literally), when the setting makes things seem a bit too unreal, but there’s plenty of high points to enjoy.
It’s also easy to enjoy the dynamic between Captain Marvel and her unlikely allies. The aforementioned human/Skrull friendship is an unexpected source of warmth in the film. But Carol’s relationship with her forgotten friend Maria and her daughter Monica (a.k.a. Lieutenant Trouble, a downright adorable nickname), gives the film its heart. The strength of that friendship (and Lashana Lynch’s performance) adds the emotional ballast that helps ground Captain Marvel’s wrong-side epiphany and bring her back to Earth. Even the presence of Goose the cat adds some levity and surprise to the movie.
But the gold standard is the quick camaraderie between Carol Danvers and Nick Fury. A Captain Marvel movie rightfully ought to have solid snootfuls of cosmic chicanery. But this film left me wishing that we could lean less on intergalactic intrigue and more on the outstanding buddy cop movie starring Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson that took up the middle of the film. Their dynamic is the best thing in Captain Marvel and manages to humanize both characters in the midst of these otherwise world-shaking, life-changing events.
Captain Marvel also does well with its 1990s period setting, and other bits of texture. The song cues are all enjoyable and, while becoming more standard, still have the novelty as the soundtrack for superhero film. There’s a few moments in the film that feel a little cheesy -- like the “here’s why my suit is this color” or “here’s how we named The Avengers” bits that seem awfully close to something out of Disney stablemate Solo: A Star Wars Story. But by and large, the film is good at parceling out the inevitable superhero origin story details judiciously and mixing them with humor and more particular character beats.
It just doesn't do much to subvert or change-up the Marvel intro-movie formula that had, given recent output, seemed to be more a thing of 2009 than 2019 (or 1995 for that matter). Captain Marvel is thoroughly enjoyable, with a neat twist, a strong central pairing, and a commendable message. It just can’t quite transcend its “self-realization + punching” roots to become more than another link in the great MCU chain. But if this formula is still in play, if it’s still Marvel’s preferred method for establishing a new pillar of its uber-franchise, then I’m still glad to finally see it used on a different sort of Captain.
Pretty boring until the end, but Captain Marvel won my heart when she didn't bother with Yon-Rogg's "Fight me without your powers if you dare", which so many other heroes would've fallen for. And speaking of heroes, FLERKEN KITTY IS MINE.
It certainly looks like the internet has broken into two camps over this movie. Either it’s an incomprehensible mess with way to on-the-nose feminist messaging or it’s a feminist masterpiece with great characters and bad-ass action scenes.
Personally I think it’s somewhere in the middle.
Boden and Fleck have proven themselves with character based indie films such as Half Nelson and Mississippi Grind. Captain Marvel is at it’s best when they channel that style, Larson and Jackson have great on-screen chemistry and watching the two becoming friends and solve the mystery of Carol Danvers’ (Brie Larson) past makes for a fun buddy type film.
Ben Mendelsohn is clearly having a lot of fun playing a slightly different role than he is known for and it is great to see Clark Gregg back on the big screen as Agent Coulson.
The 90′s nostalgia aspect of the film can come across pretty heavy-handed at points but I think for the most part it works. The soundtrack is full of great 90′s songs, even if one particular music cue was way too obvious.
As far as the feminist undertones go I think this film did a pretty great job at incorporating a pro-female message without it ever feeling preachy. When the film does decide to focus on it’s feminist theme it tends to do so with a humours tone that feels even more satisfying after seeing the immediate backlash this film got from certain pockets of the internet.
Despite all this, the film does lack the unique visual flare of the past few MCU movies. At points Captain Marvel feels like it would be more at home with the phase one Marvel films with its lack of direction which is disappointing as I have already said that Boden and Fleck are talented filmmakers. Most action scenes are forgettable and without that extra visual element even the dialogue scenes can tend to drag and even enter melodramatic territory at points.
It should be said regardless of your opinion on the film as a whole that the special effects used to deage Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg are absolutely remarkable. For the most part the special effects are really good throughout the film, one model towards the end can look a little rubbery but compared to some of the character models in Black Panther this is absolutely an improvement.
Overall Captain Marvel is far from the best MCU film and certainly isn’t the masterpiece that many fans had hoped it to be but it also isn’t anywhere near the garbage-fire that many other fans where ready for it to be. I have to recommend this one on the basis of it being a fun buddy movie with a great cast.
Liked the story as a whole. Not entirely the development of Carol is the one I expected but I liked it. Love the cat omg.
Captain Marvel hits more than it misses; a fun, nostalgia-tinged addition to the MCU. It's not up there with the very best - it drags around the middle, there are no decent villains - but it makes up for that with some top special effects and the usual side order of Marvellous humour. It's a blast, sometimes literally, and ties in neatly with Endgame.
say tezeract again muh fucka I dare ya
Okay, it was alright but nothing brilliant and that's because It lacked the energy but does beat some of the MCU movies and loved the 1990s feel to It and I couldn't complain on the casting, (Brie Larson) plays a good (captain marvel). The film had some good action but didn't really get big till the end so I was disapointed in that. Goose is by far my favourite character and hope to see more of her XD
In general I put it with the better MCU movies. This is a good origin story with a slight twist. We find out how she gets her powers, but not in the way you would normally expect from a Marvel flick. The story is well put together and has an interesting plot twist. We get a nice soundtrack with 90's hits, honest humour without over-the-top slapstick, and 100% cuteness factor with Goose the cat. The end of the film is a bit cringy, but I can handle it.
The only downside is perhaps the character development of the lead role. Well, we would all like to immediately become best friends with Carol Danvers. We also understood that she pretty sharp toungue. But we didn't see a flawed personality, no sharp edges except a good sense of humor. And that does take away some credibility. Hopefully we will see this in the sequel (or in Endgame). Because don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of this film. And I can't wait to see more Captain Marvel!
Carol is great,Talos is hilarious, Goose is the star of this how did Fury lose his eye mystery tour, overall it's not that bad.
I was confused and unsure at first but then I started to really enjoy this. It's by no means the best marvel story out there but I felt like it brought an element of fun and lightheartedness. This one probably won't be for everyone but I enjoyed itnfitnehatvitbwas.
second time watching it loved it much more. i found it too confusing the first time but watching it knowing the plot already actually makes it a more concise and clean story than on your first watch. carol is literally my whole life i would die for her and her cute smile PLEASE
8/10
I’m sorry, I like this one.
Captain Marvel might be the most controversial film in the whole franchise. I have some grievances with this one, namely lack of any style or originality in the writing or direction but the chemistry between Brie Larson and Samuel L Jackson helps to make this an enjoyable watch. I know you probably don’t agree with me but I like this movie, so there!
I'd say the 3rd act is definitely the weakest, I definitely enjoyed watching Carol and Nick Fury more than Captain Marvel but I still ended up liking this more than I was expecting which isn't saying much but I was pleasantly surprised. Sure the hero needs a flaw and hopefully more personality in the sequel but I still thought Brie Larson was very good and the film wasn't half bad.
It's not bad movie ,I love the character, the story line is good and connected to other marvel cinematic story, she has a powerful power that could be take down thanos in the next avengers.I give 7 out of 10
sam just say fuck

Seriously, anyone who doesn't like this movie has a problem. Of course, it's no artwork, no Marvel movie is, but for an origin movie? Superior to most. My only problem is that Carol is very powerful from the start, but the problem is that it takes Marvel eleven years to make a film with a female protagonist. When they made, they needed she was amazing from the start to be able to save the day in the next movie. Character evolution is lacking. Sometimes it seems like she forgot that she lost her memory interacting with Maria, there could have been a conflict
Anyone who complains about her being "arrogant" is crazy, Tony is much worse and they love him.
p.s.: WHY CAROL AND MARIA DID NOT KISS??? They were clearly a Sapphic couple (I won't assume the sexuality of either of them)
p.s.: Stan Lee best cameo, it seems like they knew it was his last, Carol's exchange of smiles with him is very cute
Brie is an amazing actor, she plays a funny, charming, decent person.
Was a very good movi, the action was very very good, have some funny moments.
It was nice seeing a new MCU character. The story was OK, the de-aging CGI was done well. It would have been nice to see more of Danvers' background story instead of just the few short glimpses here and there.
Marvel delivers its first female centric superhero film with Captain Marvel, a prequel to the Avengers series. After escaping capture by the Skrull, a Kree soldier named Vers gets stranded on Earth where she discovers that the Skrull are searching for something and during her investigation she unearths a past that she never knew about. Brie Larson gives a decent performance, though she’s clearly doing an imitation of a Tony Stark-like character (which there are already too many of in the MCU), and the supporting cast is pretty strong; featuring Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, and Djimon Hounsou. Unfortunately the script is rather poor, as it desperately tries to avoid telling an origin story while also ham fistedly forces one in at the same time. But the action-scenes and fight sequences are fun and exciting, and there’s some lighthearted comedy that works really well (particularly the Stan Lee cameo). Also, the soundtrack is incredibly well-done; using ‘90s music to set the tone and time period. Despite some flaws, Captain Marvel is yet another solidly entertaining pop-corn film from Marvel.
So, Captain Marvel is okay.
It's nothing really spectacular. The action is passable, the acting is passable (aside from Samuel L. Jackson, who does an amazing job as always), the music is passable, essentially everything is just passable. I don't necessarily hate anything about this film, besides the clear agenda Marvel pushed here with the "female lead kicks butt so powerful wow" thing. And, while I've yet to see Wonder Woman, I've heard that it does that so much better and more subtly.
Captain Marvel herself isn't really that interesting of a character. I don't know if this is Marvel's fault, or Brie Larson's fault with her wooden performance, or simply both. But a good example is that throughout the film, she's constantly told "hey you shouldn't let your emotions get to you" but we're never really SHOWN that, unless her just using her powers really qualifies as that. I thought the twist with the Skrulls was clever and well done, and I've already praised Sam Jackson, but aside from that this was just a painfully average film.
Overall a 7/10
Enjoyed more than i expected after mostly bad reviews..Don't listen to bad critics and check it so you can have your own opinion it's not the best marvel movie but not the worst too. 7/10
Slow at times but an overall good story.
im not a big fan of this kree stuff but gosh i love brie SO much and seeing shield and the marvel universe in the 90s was iconic. hope the second instalment will be better!
8/10
So, is it overly feministic? No, it isn't. I'd say Wonder Woman is more so than this film. It holds it's character strongly and does not diverge the audience's views when watching. The undertones are there sure, but it isn't in your face. Just thought I'd get that out of the way because some around me were wondering that themselves.
Carol Danvers is a great addition to the MCU. Not only has the studio thought long and hard about her placement, but also on how they can make her a defining character for our day and age. No doubt that in the future she will grow and see stronger days herself. But for now, we are left with a very fast paced story with Carol herself, not seeming quite right. There is something off about Brie Larson's performance, and I think it's because of the quick cutting of emotional stages she goes through. I know they are making an amnesia story (with a slim amount of tropes I might add!), but for some reason, she can't seem coherent enough in emotional performing to make this character fully likeable. Then again. it's an origin story. The way she is blunt with others is a plus though.
The villain is complicated here. While I'd say one of the better in the MCU. There are some drawbacks to how they interact with Carol. Not much I can say about them. But having a movie set in the past with a big threat like in the 3rd act was kind of stupid in my opinion. No stakes at all.
For the technical side of things, shots were nice. Too much cutting than I would have liked in fight scenes in hand to hand. The final fight was greatly done though. The music didn't stand out much and was unneeded in some scenes that would have benefitted from silence or a more subtle tone rather than an orchestral track. CGI was fairly good. But, Captain Marvel's powers make her look really fake when flying.
Young Nick Fury and Captain Marvel are, of course, the main highlight to take away. Like a buddy cop movie, but with more superpowers and cats. The chemistry between the two was funny and well put together. The final line said by Carol in the mid-credits scene is a nice callback earlier in the film to cement the two.
So yes duh, there is a mid-credits scene and an end-credits scene. But you could leave after the mid-credits. As the final scene is just a cutesy one. But if you want absolutely no spoilers at all and are the type to even avoid trailers for the new Avengers. It may not be the best play to watch the mid-credits.
Captain Marvel is a good introduction to the strong female lead Carol Danvers. A fun journey with a duo I'd love to see more of. As well as more of Carol's flaws in a visual medium, not vocal. It's no Iron Man, but I see a bit of that Tony Stark spark in this promising character.
Second Viewing Update
So after another look because of uncertainty. I can say now that I was frustrated with the lack of actual character build. Before I remarked the amnesia story being an excuse for the lacking of visual storytelling. But now it was getting to me. Carol Danvers deserves better. And I hope in Endgame she gets it. I have faith in the Russos to give her better development. If not, other instalments will hear our cries for giving this amazing promise, flaws. Downgrading my rating a bit as for a movie about this character, it focuses more on her abilities than her as a person.
7.2/10
6.8/10

This was totally disappointing.
The whole movie revolves about her finding her identity allegedly, but she never ends up being the main focus of the narrative, They wanted a strong female character who fights her own battles but made her a confused character with no sense of self. Entertaining but not all that. I'll stick with Wonder woman when it comes to super ladies that can kick ass for now.
I don't know if it's the anticipation of Avengers 4 or something but for some reason I just couldn't connect with this movie. It's one of those movies were my whole body & mind was just waiting for it to end
This movie feels like a piece of music where somebody polled most listeners of music and then took everything they like and just smash it all into one piece.
It has all the elements we like in a Marvel-Movie, but it doesn't necessarily seem to fit.
To be clear, it is not an InYourFace-Feministic movie.
It has a strong (in the end ridiculously strong) female lead character (to be fair, Cpt Marvel is that in the comics too...) but they don't demean the male characters in order to do so (Well, at least not more than they do in superhero-movies with male leads).
Not a spoiler regarding this movie, but Marvels - Infinity Wars - to be clear, it is nothing more than a broad summary to make a point, but some ppl here are marking entire posts as spoilers because of stuff you can't fend off if you are an internet user...:
To make clear why this feels smashed together at an example:
What the FUCK is an emergency?
How did THANOS IS COMING TO EARTH not constitute one? I can't imagine that resettling as few refugees - even if it is an entire race is more important than trying to save 50% of all sentient life in the galaxy?!?
A mediocre movie that pretends to be an empowering female lead movie but ends up just being kind of dumb. Anything I was actually interested in was glazed over, there is no clear villain or even a satisfying climax, and I honestly found Jude Law to be more interesting than the main character. The problem with Brie Larson's character is that she doesn't have a lot of personality traits other than she's "strong" and sarcastic. She is uninteresting, and her awesome helmet is barely used. She doesn't even appear to need it. Since I can't spoil anything else, I'll end this review here, but yeah. It's a movie that is being praised for its mediocrity simply because the title character is a woman. Anyone who dislikes it is suspected to be a hater or a toxic white male, and the point of the movie is that the world is holding women back. That might not seem bad until you remember that there are two genders - male and female. If the oppressed people are women in general, then that makes everyone else (aka men) the metaphorical enemy. It's uncomfortable to be a guy watching the movie, even though I've wanted a good female lead Marvel movie just as much as everyone else. Not all men are sexist. Perhaps if they had taken a page from Wonder Woman's book and created a character that both men and women could genuinely look up to, we'd have a better movie. But alas, I found myself praying that Jude Law would make it to the end of the movie. Carol just isn't that interesting, funny or even likable.
Carol Danvers will be a great addition to the MCU. I've always liked the character, so I went into the movie knowing that I'd probably like it. And guess what, I DID! And we also got the most of Samuel Jackson in this one than we got in every other MCU film combined! And damn, that de-aging technology really looked good.
So Captain Marvel sets the character up by letting us discover her lost memory with her. Which is done alright. They also let most of the film be in the 90s which was fun! Like seeing gameboys, the soundtrack etc. etc. We also get an early Ronin and Coulson! I liked that the Kree and Skrull were heavily involved! And the humor was fun,
It felt like a bit of a different Marvel film but that was not bad. It sets up the character for more development which she'll surely get when the Russo Brothers will handle her in the next Avengers. And if they do it well, I do think that Captain Marvel could be one of the characters to carry the MCU in Phase 4 and beyond!
this movie is enjoyable it's definitely a action Blockbuster crazy visuals big explosive action
lots of sci-fi elements
it is a treat for MCU fanboys as well
cameos from agents of shield characters Phil coulson and Nick fury
are great coulson wasn't really in the movie that much but his scenes are really good
Brie Larson herself just wasn't that interesting to me
she didn't really seem to have a whole lot of personality traits she just was sarcastic in had an attitude which actually made her come off as annoying some of the time
most of the other characters are great I found myself enjoying their scenes way more then the title character
all in all it's a pretty standard marvel movie
there's a lot of great fights action sequences
plenty of comical moments
Easter eggs and
probably one of the best Stan Lee cameos
A solid entry into the MCU. Brie Larson is fantastic and I can't wait to see more of her. Samuel L. Jackson is his usual self. His chemistry with Brie Larson is a lot of fun. The deaging is incredible, it looked like he traveled back in time to do this movie. Ben Mendelsohn's performance is great. Goose the cat is awesome. The action is fine. It does the origin story well enough but doesn't fully explain everything and still leaves me with some questions. This has a hard time living up to the stakes of Infinity War and Endgame but on it's own it's good.
The only Marvel movie with a woman as the main character and they make it this boring.. I’m very disappointed, I expected more. Plus, a lot of scenes were just forced to combine things untold in the old movies with new things for the upcoming one; scenes that resembled Spiderman aND guardians of the galaxy... and c’mon fellow people from Italy, tell me her powers don’t remind you of the protagonist of the cartoon/tv series W.I.T.C.H.
Captain Marvel was pretty traditional Marvel fair.
I thought the movie was fun the whole time, but there wasn't any real substance to it. The way they shot the movie, nothing ever felt like a challenge or struggle even when on screen that's what you were watching. I never felt like there was a scene that felt dire.
I enjoyed Everyone's performance in the movie, and nobody felt out of place, the story and emotions of each scene just fell short.
All in all I enjoyed it, but don't really need to go out of your way to see unless watching through the MCU.
I enjoyed this but not the best marvel movie i have watched, i found that the flashbacks kinda annoying and just seemed to be jumping back and forth too much.
I wish the the way she developed in the film was more like how they showed you Captain America as you felt more for the characters arc and felt like he was a real hero who struggled and fought for what is right, but with all the jumping back and forth between powerful and not, felt like it could have done with an extra 30mins of showing her struggling in her young life to be a pilot as they just glossed over her struggles to the point where it did not really matter.
I felt brie was pretty wooden and not that likeable but also the writing was pretty poor overall which might be why i felt that way. Would have been a much better movie with a better actress.
Loved the cat though :)
I tend to watch all the marvel movies and had to watch this for that reason but i could have been so much better.
A solid Marvel movie. It’s nothing special though, and there wasnt really anything to love about the film. But it does what it’s supposed to do - gives us the origin story of Captain Marvel so that we care about her more in Endgame.
My only real ‘complaint’ so to speak about the movie is that every one of the plot twists is extremely predictable.
It was obvious the moment that the movie started that Jude Law’s chracter had alterior motives. There was no way he was only appearing in the movie in a tiny meaningless role. The whole cat thing with Fury’s eye was also predictable. People were predicting that just from watching the trailers.
By the numbers. Few surprises. Little I will remember tomorrow. 6/10
I liked it, it's not the best, but I liked it, the cat and Samuel L. Jackson helped. That Dragon Ball scene, or that scene taken from Independece day
One of the most stunning marvel movies of all time. I love the design and the editing and the cgi of this film. It's like eye candy for the first viewing but on rewatch I cant help but notice how boring it is. It felt like 1 hr and 30 mins of playing catch and finding out things that don't even matter later, then action packed huge amazing scenes. Brie Larson is amazing though her character feels sparky.
Second watch.
Good origin story not the best one in the MCU.
Great action sequences as well as the CGI and visuals.
The thing i really didn’t like is that they made Carol Danvers really overpowered at the end and with that she let the main villain and Ronan the Accuser live like it wasn’t an issue.
You know what, I was expecting this to be a lot worse
Space-themed superhero action that's reminiscent of Guardians of the Galaxy, minus the wealth of charisma and the groovy, well-placed musical cues. Captain Marvel tries to carve its own little niche in that last respect, with a heavy load of popular '90s radio hits spewed all over the place, but they feel far less curated and personal. In a few important scenes, such heavy-handed soundtrack choices actually detract from the action, rather than enhancing it.
The Captain herself, former test pilot Carol Danvers, is reserved and composed by design, a different cut from the brash Marvel template that takes inspiration from her military upbringing and fits her eventual role as a sort of galactic peace officer. This makes for a less colorful lead than we've been conditioned to expect from the mighty mega-franchise, and I can understand how that might rub a few fans the wrong way. Personally, I didn't have an issue so long as we were slowly unraveling the tangled threads of her origin story, but she'll need to find a richer supporting cast to thrive in future solo outings.
Lighter fare than I was expecting, and rather small in scale despite the veiled implications of a long-running interstellar war. Its throwback setting places this film in a unique position to explore and enrich the stories of several MCU playthings - Fury, the Tesseract, Ronan, the Kree - but even with those little curiosities, the whole thing feels a tad unnecessary.
Decent, I'll never watch it again however.
Brie pronounces "Lawson" like her surname "Larson."
this movie remembers me the steel man 2013 kkkk

This is the first super hero movie I've ever seen where I have actually read the bulk of the comics that the movie is based on. So maybe I'm too close to it to see the big picture.
I loved this movie. They 100% crush the characterisation of Carol. She is exactly the person I love from the comics I love.
I was a bit thrown by the framing at the start, but once the film gets its legs everything is great. I think this is deliberate through, because it gives you the same uneasy feeling Carol is going through with her memory loss.
Everything else plays out like a pretty straightforward action movie.
Samuel L Jackson looks amazing considering he is playing 30 years younger than he is. Ben Mendelsohn stands out in every scene he is in. Brie Larson does a perfect job.
Overall, pretty good film.
