Into the Night

Not without flaws, but if you find the premise intriguing, the series is really very binge-worthy. The acting is decent, the direction pretty good. I'll be excepting the second season with excitement

Terminator: Dark Fate

Wokeness aside (and it takes big effort already), the film is very unoriginal, with poor casting choices. A sequel I did not really want, that bored me to death. Oh, and then there is the wokeness...

Fool Me Once

Harlan Coben adapted on British TV is something I will avoid from now on. The plot is overly complex to look smart and oh so mysterious when in fact it is full of plot holes, characters acting beyond common sense, etc. Acting is so so, this is overlong......Try the first episode at your own risk, but if you don;t like it that much, don;t waste any more time like we did. Definitely not worth it

Interceptor

I went into this wanting to know how bad it was. It did not disappoint. The acting is terrible, special mention for Pataky, the plot is laughable, the music really bad, nothing can be saved. Is it so bad it's good? No, not really, it's just bad. Also, 55kg lead actress who went to the gym for a month is supposed to wrestle men twice her size and get the best of them, as we have come to expect from any actioner with a SFC (strong female character). Whoever at Netflix thought this was a good project needs to be fired.

I Care a Lot

Some movies are terrible because of bad acting or directing. You can even enjoy some of them for that. This movie commits a cardinal sin: its lead character is taking on a Russian Mafia boss, and yet if you are normal, you will hate her guts the entire time. She is the least likable character I have seen in a while, with absolutely no redeeming quality. Of course she is a man-hating lesbian, which for some will qualify, for an added dose of woke-ism, typical of Netflix production. At the very least the ending is satisfying, with every normal viewer getting being granted their wish. But really this terrible at time sickening movie does not deserve 2 hours of your time

The Invisible Man

Very Generic psychological/supernatural thriller with non-sensical poorly written scenario. What motivates the supposed bad guys to do what they do? You guess is as good as mine. Waste of time, and it's a wonder why it got 91% on RT, other than above average wokeness level (metoo)

You

Imagine if Dexter had been written by a female millennial addicted to social networks. I watched 6 episodes before the obnoxious Joe, his more obnoxious inner voice, and the implausible situations got the best of me.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

Watching this made me doubbt as to why I gave the first one an 8. The story does not make sense at all, the characters have no depth, there are more product placements than a superbowl commercial break. The C19 references are dates, cringe af to to top it all, the film subtly but definitely woke. Also, Miles Bron, clearly inspired by Elon Musk, happens to be an evil idiot. How convenient. I did not enjoy it at all, and it is a movie that pretends and tries very hard to be smart, but fails miserably.

The Tinder Swindler

I was really entertained from start to finish, a crazy true story, and a very elaborate scam. The man is an evil genius who can't write 4th grade english (the letter he wrote), but still capable of managing and planning high stake scam like this. Man, all those messages, all this flying of private jets, those money transfers, those girlfriends.....whtat a headache. I felt sorry for the ladies, and I won't call them gold diggers, but for sure they got attracted to his money and lifestyle. This is how the world works, we all know it.
Bottom line, well put together and entertaining doc, crazy true story, THUMBS UP!

Prey

While it is technically a lady reboot with diversity and wokism aplenty, it is not as bad as it could have been. The cinematography is beautiful, the gore is good, andn I like that the story and setting is taking this prequel back to its roots of survival in the wild against the Predator. Still though: our tennage girl is fighting the patriarchy, beating everybody up and never gets hurt, the predator is very stupid, the ending is silly, and of course the french trappers are complete savages. Despite all this, which seems anyway inevitable these days, the movie is still enjoyable

The Flight Attendant

This has 98% on Rotten Tomatoes people....I have nothing against Cuoco, but it's true her character is annoying, shallow, slightly dumb, and also a drunk who hooks up with random guys as soon as someting goes wrong. I was excited for the premise and I like miniseries. However the plot is going nowhere, and it can't figure out if it's a thriller or a comedy. You will get sick of the non-sensical scene where Cass is thinking and somehow in her head back to the bangkok hotel room with her one night stand. This gets old very quickly

Bad Boys for Life

OK, I liked the first 2 and I don't mind throwback cheesy action movies. But the plot is just an unbelievable mess....I bet my 5 year olld son is coming up with better and more believable plot twist than this lazy mess. How does a screenplay like this one get greenlit seriously

Collateral

Well acted, well put together mini-series. However, the creators were so focused on delivering as many "social justice warrior"-driven story arcs (poor minority (lesbian, illegal, migrant...) female facing evil white male (anti-gay, anti migrant, sexual predator) that they forgot to write a truly compelling story. The 4th episode ends and you're like "meh, that's it? that's what I get for putting up with 3 hours of PC propaganda?" No thank you

The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window

The wife and I went into this thinking it was serious. Quickly some of the details of the plot and characters seemed quite silly and hard to believe. But hey, we wanted to see where it was going, it is not that long anyway.
By the end of it we just thought it was dumb, was not making sense and I was about to rate it like the second worst show I saw on Netflix (worst? The I-Land). Then I read the IMDB comments and saw this was a parody.
So here is the thing: it is not that funny at all, so you could think it's a total fail anyway. BUT then I started to think about some of the plot twists and details, and I thought to myself: could it be the genius of it that is is stupid, but never completely a spoof? Am I the stupid one for thinking they were serious with this? It looks somehow that I got played, and strangely, this got me thinking a lot, and it is more than I can say about a lot of shows.....Wait, maybe the I-land was a parody too?

Last Seen Alive

By the dozen low budget actioner that did not even reach Liam Neeson's standard. Not awful, and Butler is doing a decent job but very cheap and so generic that surely, we can find better ways to spend 90 minutes

Death Wish

A controversial movie that is certain to get terrible reviews from mainstream movie writers. The movie is well directed, well acted, and makes sense overall. Personally, as a husband and a father, I find this to be a somewhat refreshing in the current sea of wokeness coming from Hollywood. The movie is a 7 for me, but I give it an extra point for being least woke movie I have seen in a while

Money Heist

I don't get what all the fuss is about here. This is all very un-believable, the acting is really poor, and most of all, it seems to have been written by a bunch of 14 year olds.....I gave up when the lady cop was asking The Professor out to Dinner, at the same time as someone was trying to crush him in a car....for no reason. ...Like its so-called Professor, this series is not nearly as smart as it thinks it is. Special mention for the atrocious french dubbing, worthy of the worst tele novela

Hijack

A thriller miniseries with Elba? I am in! It was a decent series, well acted and produced, but it would have been better as a 2 hour film. It is clearly a trend for streaming services to milk anything into a miniseries, to keep you invested for 5-6 hours.

Ghosted

Trying to be a romantic comedy and a spy action movie at the same time, it predictably fails at both. Even going in not expecting anything great or deep, I could not even finish it. Not even the ever charming Ana de Armas could make this watchable

Brothers by Blood

I had hopes for this one. Kinnaman is always good, the direction and photography are very gritty, and I like a rough gangster movie. However, what is that plot? It is boring, nothing happens, it really goes nowhere at all. Waste of time

Those Who Wish Me Dead

So bland, average, and frankly dumb! With a great cast and Taylor Sheridan involved, I was expecting more really. This is even worse than your random Neesom actioner. Nothing exciting or thrilling really happens. Also the whole pretext for the action, the uncovering of massive fraud from important politicians, presumably is never given any depth whatsoever. You can pass this one even if you have low standards for action movies

Gamemaster

I loves games and I dream of becoming a designer. This was interesting to me, although I did not learn that much. I would have given it a 7 if it was not those 5 minutes of complain that board games are not....diverse enough. Wokeness know no limits....

OSS 117: From Africa with Love

I am french, a big fan of the first 2 movies, which I rated 8. After reading reviews, I was not expecting much from this third installment.
The movie starts well. Hubert is his usual self: a charming albeit ignorant macho, with little culture, and bigoted ideas about Africa. When he goes to Africa it starts well too. But then when he meets Serge there, it all falls apart: he becomes clearly dumb, cruel, outdated, impotent, and as the filmmaker clearly shows are negative traits, right wing and patriot.
The character of Serge does not work at all for me, because in his presence, Hubert becomes so much less likable.

The wife and I loooved it. A poignant story, well crafter, acted and directed, with a lot of taste. A great and satisfying ending. Bullock is great, as expected

The Twelve

Good acting and production values. However, very hard to find likeable characters or even anyone to root for. Also, the mistery is really only unveiled to the audience by lazy flashbacks here and there, not because the story or investigation or trial evolves.

The Swarm

As much a family drama as it is a horror film, it is a sort of hybrid that will disappoint people expecting full on horror. And yes, I wanted more horror, and there is surely great potential here, but I still enjoyed the movie anyway. It is tense, well acted and overall great production values. It could be a great pilot to a carnivorous grasshoppers invasion series

The Ice Road

And I fell for another cheap Neeson actioner in these times of Pandemic. Covid sure has not stopped him. This one is again painfully average, and probably not worth your time, even if you like a good Neeson actioner. This one is just not good. I need to mention the Tantoo character, native american with typical dialogue in this day and age: "When you are hungry, you get cranky?" "Worse" she replies, "I act white". Non-sensical but what you've come to expect.

Fargo: Season 4

I rated the show a 9 after the first season. S2 and S3 were to the same excellent level. S4 however, is a mess. Clearly some elements of the first 3 seasons are here, but like many apparently, Ireally did not care for the story and the characters. I watched it all, but it was a chore. On a side note, you get your mandatory dose of "diversity and inclusion" as we have come to expect from Hollywood, with clearly some minorities being added for the sake of. It's probably not what kills the season, but it is never a good sign when a series puts political agenda forward.
