Anatomy of a Fall

Great acting, for sure. Otherwise, it looks like a made for French TV movie, the story is ....meh, and my god how can it be 2 and a half hours? Not a bad movie, but certainly not worth the hype to me

The Tower

This kind of movie premise has been done 100 times and better. The acting is terrible (the woman's reaction when her brother randomly impales on a metal stick, lol). The scariest part of the movie is that it happens in a social housing tower in a french suburb, which are scary to begin with, as one can imagine with the population depicted here.

Hijack

A thriller miniseries with Elba? I am in! It was a decent series, well acted and produced, but it would have been better as a 2 hour film. It is clearly a trend for streaming services to milk anything into a miniseries, to keep you invested for 5-6 hours.

Family Business

Season 1 is really good, funny and well acted, with lots of good ideas, and singer Enrico Macias funny in his own role. Season 2 is quite a step down, and season 3 is frankly very bad, clearly going into dumb and crass territory, the writing team clearly having run out of ideas. A mixed experience not worth the investment of time that it requires

Leave the World Behind

The movie was successful in building tension and keeping us interested, despite some really annoying characters, namely, the genZ leftist SJW daughter, and the Karen (you know who I am talking about). Yes, we know little about the threat and the attack, and most of the movie happens in the house, but that is to me part of what the tension comes from. That being said, the movie is overlong, and the ending left us....speechless. I did not have a bad time, but this movie is really hard to recommend...

The Propaganda Game

A movie that relies on the testimony of a hardcore commy that lefthis country (Spain) for the delights of life in North Korea. Is there propaganda about NC in the West? Maybe, but I thnk it is nothing compared to the other side. This movie is almost like North Korea propaganda

Lady Ballers

I am on team Daily Wire, I certainly agree with them that Women's sports belongs to biological women, aka real women. I applaud DW for making this movie, I am sure they had fun doing it. But the movie is not all that good, and I barely laughed at all. The best scenesare actually drama scenes, like the one wherethe coach explains to his daughter what women are better at. Overall, I can't quite recommend the movie even if you are on board with the premise

Fool Me Once

Harlan Coben adapted on British TV is something I will avoid from now on. The plot is overly complex to look smart and oh so mysterious when in fact it is full of plot holes, characters acting beyond common sense, etc. Acting is so so, this is overlong......Try the first episode at your own risk, but if you don;t like it that much, don;t waste any more time like we did. Definitely not worth it

Hall Pass

I was 20ish at the peak of the Farrellys career (Kingpin, There's something about Mary...) and I never laughed as hard in a theater as I did back then. However, this is just bad. Not funny, gross, akward....Why are the wives cool and the guys absolute dorks? I watched this to catch up on the Farelly, and I wish I had not

Just a Breath Away

The premise is sort of exciting, but in the end....meh.

Ghosted

Trying to be a romantic comedy and a spy action movie at the same time, it predictably fails at both. Even going in not expecting anything great or deep, I could not even finish it. Not even the ever charming Ana de Armas could make this watchable

BEEF

It received grat reviews, and it seemed a bit different and quirky. I should have liked it. Yet I hated it. I have no clue why I should care about those random nasty people's lives.I thought it was not funny, not interesting, there is nooone to like or root for in my opinion. Anothr Netflix miss

Deep Water

The movie really is a 3, but if you are a straight man, Ana de Armas makes it a 6. I am dead serious

Turning Red

Barely enjoyable, very average Pixar, nowhere near the (lowering) standards of this studio. Sadly Pixar masterpieces are become the exception, not the rule

The Watcher

Believe the imdb and trakt ratings, and follow my advice: don't waste your time. The series look good and is well acted, but who cares if the plot is that bad. Couple receives mean letters after buying a beautiful suburban home and for the next 6 hours, the series will try to make you believe that the author of the letters can be anyone out of the gallery of unlikeable characters around, in the most convoluted ways, with the dumbest plot twist. If this is your idea of fun go for it! I warned you.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

Watching this made me doubbt as to why I gave the first one an 8. The story does not make sense at all, the characters have no depth, there are more product placements than a superbowl commercial break. The C19 references are dates, cringe af to to top it all, the film subtly but definitely woke. Also, Miles Bron, clearly inspired by Elon Musk, happens to be an evil idiot. How convenient. I did not enjoy it at all, and it is a movie that pretends and tries very hard to be smart, but fails miserably.

Animal Kingdom

I just finished S6. A great show, but When I stop to think about it, I would not recommend it: The characters we are supposed to care for are all absolute scumbags, criminals who make the worst decisions, and ruin lives around them. Sure they were raised by an Evil mother, but still, everybody is so bad and evil that watching this makes me feel dirty. In the end, I kinda wanted them to get caught or die. There can be something cool about those mafia/gangster movies and shows, but here I could no longer find reasons to care for those guys

Black Bird

The best series I have watched all year. Beautifully shot, more beautifully acted mini series, inspired by a gripping true crime story. It is gritty rather than flashy, and you can recognize the touch of Dennis Lehanne, probably my favorite crime Novelist. PLUS it is completely free of any Wokeness whatsoever. Back to a great story, no agenda/message/propaganda. MORE!!!!!

Prey

While it is technically a lady reboot with diversity and wokism aplenty, it is not as bad as it could have been. The cinematography is beautiful, the gore is good, andn I like that the story and setting is taking this prequel back to its roots of survival in the wild against the Predator. Still though: our tennage girl is fighting the patriarchy, beating everybody up and never gets hurt, the predator is very stupid, the ending is silly, and of course the french trappers are complete savages. Despite all this, which seems anyway inevitable these days, the movie is still enjoyable

The Staircase

Overall it is a good show. The cast is terrific, special mentions to Firth and Stuhlbrag, acting and direction are top notch. However, why does it seem now mandatory that the story be told with different timelines. It is sometimes hard to follow in which part of the story you are. And I fail to see the added value. After watching "Dopesick", this narrative style seems to be on trend to a fault. Also we have a touch mandatory wokeism, race-swaps (french director is now black for some reason).
BOTTOM LINE: It's really good, not amazing, and please WATCH the original docu series on Netflix. It is a LOT better, the best true crime series ever in my opinion.

Keep Breathing

I thought I was in for a cool survival story. Instead it was a borefest. Our strong female of color main character is alone from the get go, swears a lot, hears voices of a co-passenger she has known for an hour, and does not do a lot of cool survival stuff. Most of our time is spent with useless flashbacks on her life as a lawyer, for which we have no reason to care. Don't do the same mistake as I did, and please avoid this.

Baptiste

This series follows Julien Baptiste, the investigator who was the main character on the "The Missing" miniseries. This is a great character, impeccably portrayed by Karyo. The first season is great, although it relies too much on flashbacks, leaving you wondering if the story is that great, or if it is just the order in which it is told that make it more compelling.
Second season has the same flaw, and many more: a very convoluted story, plenty of coincidences, everything seems to be very far fetched. The agenda of far left BBC is clear: the villain of the series is Hungary and its refusal to accept migrants. Right wing politicians are connected to white supremacist terrorist, and you are either in the good pro-migrant camp, of basically a Nazi.
I look forward to BBC green-lighting a third season with Baptiste exploring some of the very real UK grooming gangs in a season 3.....but I am not holding my breath

Blacklight

Niam Leeson goes to a new low. Does the man just accepts any B-movie action thriller that comes to him? What in this one made him say "Hell Yeah, I am in!" The story is so generic, there are no plot twist, no great action, nothing worthy of your time, even if like me you have a soft spot for this kind of movie. Of course there is a tad of wokeness that made me roll my eyes, but it is sadly not this movie's biggest problem.

Brothers by Blood

I had hopes for this one. Kinnaman is always good, the direction and photography are very gritty, and I like a rough gangster movie. However, what is that plot? It is boring, nothing happens, it really goes nowhere at all. Waste of time

Those Who Wish Me Dead

So bland, average, and frankly dumb! With a great cast and Taylor Sheridan involved, I was expecting more really. This is even worse than your random Neesom actioner. Nothing exciting or thrilling really happens. Also the whole pretext for the action, the uncovering of massive fraud from important politicians, presumably is never given any depth whatsoever. You can pass this one even if you have low standards for action movies

Dopesick

Superb acting, directing and production on this miniseries. A very adult interesting topic too. Very recommended overall. My woke-meter showed really high levels at times ("diverse" characters for the sake of representation, Rosario Dawson's character), but it was not enough to distract and to make this series anything other than a triumph.

The Lost City

Silly, over the top, cheesy, and very forgettable.....but also quite a good time in the end. Bullock and Tatum are very charming, quite funny, and they somehow make it somewhat work. If the movie poster is not completely putting you off, you might have a good time if you can leave your brain cells alone.

Last Seen Alive

By the dozen low budget actioner that did not even reach Liam Neeson's standard. Not awful, and Butler is doing a decent job but very cheap and so generic that surely, we can find better ways to spend 90 minutes
