Please don't be a piece of crap cash grab, please don't be a piece of crap cash grab....
Having been a die-hard fan of the video games I have high hopes (but low expectations) that this show will be awesome! I felt Silo had a very Fallout feel to them and if this is at least as good as Silo has been then this will be a winner!
Wow, what terrible acting and storylines. It's like they throw darts at the episode plot board and just riff on what they hit.
With every Star Wars spinoff Disney demonstrates their acceptance of mediocrity in entertainment. Each spin off uses the leftovers from the previous shows as set pieces and everything is just lower and lower production value with more talentless actors and bad writing.
Mando set a gold standard in the first two seasons, Fett was OK but felt forced, Obi Wan didn't really land and Ewan couldn't resurrect it, Andor was slow and recycled too many previous Star Wars sets and now Ashoka is just a sad attempt at another spinoff, of which there seem to be a limitless supply of. With Ashoka it seems like they are trying to break the "one season special" formula and make it a slow burn to run for multiple seasons.
Disney is grasping at anything to keep their failing streaming service (and frankly, their failing corporation) alive.
As I write this I realize how much Star Wars has been spun off, especially if you include Solo and Rogue One. Disney got their hands on the franchise and turned it into a giant cash grab which worked for a minute but is watering down a beloved franchise more and more with each spin off.
Plots of the movie:
Finally pulling the plug on this show. Just when I think their wokeness can't get any worse the next episode is even more woke and silly than the last. If you feel that having Hollywood force feed you their agenda is fun, this is a great show for you.
While impossible to follow Band of Brothers, this is done better than The Pacific was. I like all three, but Master of the Air is very well done and much more cohesive than its Pacific cousin. I'm wondering if and when they will do this with the Navy now that we have the other three.
I really went in 50/50 but highly hopeful on this. The acting is well done, the character development is not quite as solid as BoB but pretty good and better than Pacific.
I was thinking I may at some point try to watch all three at same time, organized by date of occurrence, this would give you a massive epic miniseries covering multiple engagements in WWII.
I'm having a hard time getting into this show, the cast is good and the acting is mostly good (mostly) but it doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm going to stay tuned for a while to see where it goes, but so far I could take it or leave it.
Well, it's Apple TV, so expect woke propaganda to be spoon fed to you and that Apple mandates that there always be prominent gay leads in their shows, except in Ted Lasso that was actually developed for another network and bought by Apple and is, unsurprisingly, the most successful Apple show (and one of the most successful shows on TV).
So this show has the Apple wokeness. And is SOOOOOOOO slow and is about 10% sci-fi and 90% life drama about people you have no reason to care about.
Disney is worthless anymore, everything is put out there to propagandize and they have done their level best to destroy the beloved story of Peter Pan! This movie is total garbage.
Remember when Kevin Hart was pretty hilarious in a couple movies? Then remember how he was the EXACT same guy in subsequent movies? Then remember how it wasn't a good enough schtick to be regurgitated every film since his first couple? So, here we are again, the same schtick, the same slapstick, the same [no longer really funny] Kevin Hart hoping that his tired routine still resonates. To attest to how far down the list he's gone, his co-star is John Travolta - when Travolta gets cast you just know it's going to be a bad movie most of the time.
This is one of those shows that I was willing to forgive a lot for, being a hard-core Trekkie! I could overlook the obvious SJW crap, I could overlook the lead character being pretty much totally unlikable, as much as I hated it I could even deal with white straight men being relegated to the trash heap of the future, but it's just not Star Trek.
The fact that Michael Burnham is totally insubordinate at pretty much all times would have her thrown out of Starfleet. Remember Ensign Ro from TNG? Well, Burnham is Ro times 100 and she gets a free pass.
That being said, season 1 was a really good non Star Trek sci-fi show.
Then season 2 hit and it was getting silly and even less Star Trek than before and even more SJW. I started to fizzle out. Then season 3 was so out of bounds that it didn't even qualify as good sci-fi any longer. It seems that the people in charge of Discovery are more interested in not just doing the Roddenberry firsts (first black lead, purported first interracial kiss - but that has since been debunked) by having the first gay characters in Trek, then the first trans character in Trek and the show became more about those things than being Trek and they took this wildly stupid ride into the far future to try to give some kind of sci-fi to prop up these other SJW things.
So, now it's Picard and I hope they don't destroy that too.
Personally, I don't understand all the hate around this final installment in the series. I thought this was a pretty good Indiana Jones movie, all in all, and I've watched them in the theater since they first came out (except this one).
Yes, the beginning has some de-aging and it's not great - but you get used to it pretty fast and I was seeing old Indiana Jones in no time. Yes Harrison Ford doesn't do his own stunts anymore but he's pretty old to be jumping horses through downtown New York. Lots of CGI in this one, but that's where we are today - you don't see hardly anything but CGI these days so why should this film be any different?
The story is pretty outlandish, but then again the first one that everyone loves had spirits jumping out of an mythical box so you have to suspend your disbelief if you want to watch shows like this.
If I were to rate this in the series as a whole:
#1: Raiders of the Lost Ark
#2: Last Crusade
#3: Dial of Destiny
#4: Temple of Doom
#5: Crystal Skull (mostly because Shia LaBouff sucked)
I get that some people, particularly with Temple of Doom, will disagree with my ranking but they are mine, not yours.
I went Into DoD with a ton of trepidation, all I heard was how bad it was in places like Trakt, but in reality it surpassed my expectations by a pretty large amount. They had a nice nod to all previous characters (except Brody, that was disappointing to me - I know the actor is dead but a mention would have been nice). I think this was a good final movie for Indie.
Season 1: Fantastic show, 9/10
Season 2: Tried too hard but still fun, 7/10
Season 3: From very neutral to very political, 3/10
Apple can't help but to inject their agenda into everything they do, and it ruins it. Every single Apple show has very prominent gay story arcs, not just tastefully done gay characters, but forcing a storyline into their show just because. They aren't as vapid as most other network shows are regarding agenda driven content, but they are consistent through all their shows and you can see as Apple+ matures, they are bending more and more to peddling this nonsense, starting to make them indistinguishable from Netflix, Amazon and any network show.
I think that even though it's widely speculated that season 3 is the final season that Apple will try to stretch this out because it's one of the only highly successful shows they have put out, but season 3 is proving that it should be the end. At their accelerated political push, I don't think I'll stick around for season 4.
Trakt needs to redo their show overall rating to take into account the ratings from each season. Instead of averaging the ratings of all seasons (which would be 77% rather than the 85% it sits at now) it instead only uses the average of the SHOW rating, which is generally based on the first episodes or season, skewing the actual approval rating of the show. I would also have agreed with 85% for season one, and have since lowered my overall score but I don't think most people do that.
I’ll be one of the few voices in comments that will say this was a decent movie. It’s not perfect, by any means, but it is actually decent.
Adam Driver, whom I’m not a huge fan of, did a pretty good job in this movie. Why am I not a fan of his? Well, he’s not the greatest actor but, and this is more important, he killed Han Solo. That wrong can never be righted like an upside down escape pod.
I think the premise of this movie is fascinating to watch and ponder. It does leave a few holes to be filled, but you can use your imagination for this.
In all, this is actually good Science Fiction because while his presence is all fiction (or is it, could this have really happened?), some of the rest of the presence is fact and all good science fiction has some basis in science fact.
The idea that humans were on the earth 65 million years ago is an interesting one. One hole that’s left to the imagination is, “ok, then, was it the DNA brought by these people that seeded and then allowed evolution to eventually created earths human population?” It’s interesting to think about. It’s pretty far out there, but interesting anyway. In no way would I believe that Earth would have spawned human civilization identical in nearly every way as it’s other worldly travelers, so DNA contamination is the only logical conclusion.
I like the fact that there was a language barrier and I think they overcame it well. Greenblatt did a good enough job as the girl, no complaints there really.
The only part I find convenient, really, is that the upside down life pod was righted by the very Dino that he fought with earlier in the movie. A bit too convenient really. Let’s face it, once the pod got torn off the main ship, if the damage didn’t prevent it from ever running again I would be surprised - let alone magically getting righted just perfectly by Mr. Dino.
If I’m picking nits, then I’ll pick one with the fact that he was brought down to earth by the very asteroid that would soon - VERY soon - change it forever. A bit trite, but I get why it is an important part of the story.
The Dino’s were well done, in fact all the special effects, particularly the opening credits where they show this mind blowing view of the cosmos is breathtakingly stunning.
If you are a fan of science fiction I think this is worth the pretty light 90 minute run time (compared to many 2 or 3 hour movies that are far worse). I still find myself pondering some of the aspects of the movie and “what-if” scenarios and I’m still thinking about the movie, it made a mark and that’s enough for me to say it’s worth the watch.
If science fiction isn’t your thing, this may not be either.
Well, Eddie Murphy hasn't been funny in years and Jonah Hill has never been funny and this movie reflects both of these issues with a very low-brow and unfunny movie that is predictable, trite and stupid.
This show is all hype and no substance. Any show should draw you in and connect you to a main character, any main character, and this show doesn't do that. You just cannot like anyone in this, they are all just the most unlikable people.
House of the Dragon is certainly much more diverse than GOT was, introducing a whole noble group of white haired dark skinned people -but they really blew it because what could have been a cool addition to the show all come off as just more unlikable characters.
That's the root of my distaste for this show, I don't like anyone in it. You can take so many shows with terrible people, Dexter for example, where the acts of the person may repulse you but you can't help but to like the person and their motivation - even if the actions don't appeal. Nobody like that exists in this show except for a few guards here and there that you wish had a bigger role.
This is 100% about power-hungry ladder climbers with almost no redeemable qualities that would cause you to root for them.
The best part of this show are the dragons, which dwindle from episode to episode (as of now at least) so that it just all boils down to watching people you don't like do things that you don't really root for in a kingdom not worth cheering for. Where is our Ned Stark?
This is a pretty interesting story of how Woodstock 99 was a total disaster and why. It is almost more of a story about how entitled people are today as much as it is how the people who organized this were just greedy jackasses who deserve a solid bowl of getting their asses kicked for how they bilked hundreds of thousands out of their money.
Well, it was only a matter of time, it's Paramount, and they can't just leave things be - they need to woke things up and ruin good shows.
There was absolutely no need for 7 of 9 to be a lesbian, none. I'm pretty sure on reboots that the writers first question is: "who didn't have an obvious heterosexual relationship that we can turn into a gay person?" Every single show must have a prominent alphabet. Now, it was just a kiss and I don't have any issue with that, or even with them being lesbians, but it really serves no purpose in the show whatsoever.
Fortunately anything bad about Picard is redeemed in season 3. You can just go ahead and consider season 3 to be Star Trek the Next Generation Season 8! It was an amazing ending. I could completely leave seasons 1 and 2 behind and just extend STTNG with the final season of Picard. Absolutely amazing.
Ahh, Hollywood, rewriting history to suit their preferences instead of reality as they pump out one agenda driven alternative version of "history" after another.
Season 3 just doesn't work. They have turned the cast, especially Martin Short, into just caricatures of their season 1 characters and it's off putting and cringey. Paul Rudd is neither a good actor nor particularly likable, his tired schtick was tired after Wanderlust when he just always plays the same stupid guy and his presence in this show is irritating and almost caused me to pull the plug on Only Murders in the Building.
There's one reason I'm trying so hard to watch this show that's becoming a dumpster fire more and more every episode and that's Steve Martin's declaration that this show is the last time he'll be acting and I've always liked him. Like so many he has just one guy he plays but that guy isn't particularly over-the-top or irritating, just kind of like a friend of yours that you like because they are silly - as opposed to the likes of Paul Rudd who is always obnoxious and tries way too hard to be funny when he really isn't, that's the friend you hope doesn't show up to your BBQ.
But let's get something straight, from season 1 until the end of time: Selena Gomez can't act, not one iota. She is, quite possibly, the worst actress to ever grace the big or small screen. She had to have made bags of money with her singing career, right? Do we need to be tortured by her insanely bad acting ever again? Please say no.
Martin Short, while generally entertaining, wore out his welcome a long time ago but is still tolerable to an extent, but the harder he tries the worse he is and season 3 is Short at his worst.
And Meryl Streep? Come on, this amazing actress who has more talent in the tip of her pinky than most actors have in their entire body is just not good here, it's not a role suited to her style of acting and I'm beyond shocked to see her not only be in this indie Hulu show but to see such piss-poor acting from her. You expect this from Martin and Short because it's just their style, but not Streep.
If you don't love Steve Martin and Martin Short then don't watch this. The show, itself, is "meh" but watching them together again for one last time is fun to watch, even if the first season was the only really decent one.
When you look at the plot you think that it'll be pretty boring but it's actually quite captivating! The acting is good, the plot is much better than you think and Idris Elba, I mean you can't do a lot wrong when it comes to his acting.
UPDATE: After watching all the episodes I would say it's a decent one-time watch but I don't see myself ever wanting to revisit this again. What captivates you is the way in how everyone does "their thing" but that's only good one time, after that there's nothing more to surprise you.
I still feel the acting is well done but it does get a bit predictable and unbelievable the further into the show you get.
This is a great show if you want to watch hypocrite actors who drive gas guzzling cars, fly private jets and sail yachts all over the world tell you how important it is to save the planet by not doing the very things they love doing. A rule for me and a rule for thee. It has all the big names flocking to it so they can spread their message that they are constantly preaching, yet doing something counter to it.
This show is rightfully canceled after the first season.
The show was written to serve a purpose: for the writers to shove their agenda down your throat at the expense of a beloved character and movie. This is obvious in the first two minutes of the first episode.
But it's more than just that, this show has no depth of characters, a cheesy storyline that was an afterthought to the agenda and acting that is on par with silly 80's TV shows - which is to say that the acting, again, was an afterthought and the director of this doesn't even attempt to bring any sense of entertainment to you because this was not the shows primary purpose.
This series had so much potential to be a great piece of fantasy television. Willow was a character we all loved in the movie, the story itself was cute, perhaps corny, but cute. This steaming pile of garbage has no appeal to anyone outside those who applaud agendas.
This really started out great, an awesome parody of Nick Cage by Nick Cage, but it dragged on and instead of a funny plot about Nick Cage it became a super stupid pseudo action flick.
This is a pretty good "back to the original days" Star Trek. More episodic with a long story arc, but being episodic was what got everyone into Star Trek in the first place.
Someone said that this is "woke garbage", and I'm quite often the first to point that out when I see it but I didn't get that so far. However, Paramount has woke the hell out of Discovery and got about half as woke on Picard so I wouldn't be surprised if this went that route. They have, as they do, made one character quite obviously and somewhat over-the-top gay so I'm confident it'll be a central part of the story very soon and hopefully it's more in passing than becoming a consuming plot line like they do in most other shows.
I love this show. How can you not love Sam Elliot in absolutely anything he does? With the exception of some really bizarre accents, this is a superbly done western. I didn't even care that it's a prequel to Yellowstone, this show stands on its own without any tie in to other shows.
If you like Lonesome Dove then this will become your new favorite. I still love Lonesome Dove, but this tops it. Aside from Band of Brothers I'm not sure there's a better mini-series out there.
I can't wait to avoid this version like the plague. The original was interesting and fresh, considering who is making this and what network it's airing on we can bet that it's going to be a strong political commentary with lots of virtue signaling and a cast of characters nobody can relate to.
After four episodes of this I can't watch any more. It's beyond glacially slow. Nobody is particularly likable and the plot is difficult to follow or get into. They tried to make a "dark" British cop show and ended up with this wanna-be artsy high production value series that misses the mark on everything except the actual production itself.
This episode marks the beginning of "how political can we make Star Trek?" Discovery was so far over the top that I don't even consider it Star Trek (aside from politics, it's just not Starfleet, it is the reverse of the honorable organization we like), so I had high hopes for SNW, but this episode was more about current events and agendas than it was about anything else. It's just one episode but we all know how agenda driven Paramount is.
Season 3 = Star Trek the Next Generation Season 8! Wow this was an outstanding season, and a perfect cap to the STTNG fans out there, I loved it so much that I binged the entire season in a couple of evenings. My wife found out about the extension of STTNG and wanted to watch it with me, so I queued up all of the pertinent episodes from Next Generation as a lead into Picard season 3 as a perfect way to round everything out and it's a great experience.
Even though the Next Gen cast are all in their 70's+, you almost totally forget that in this season. Even Picard is more vibrant than he was in seasons 1 and 2 and Riker doesn't look like he's changed at all, with the exception of the gray.
And much to my surprise and pleasure, they didn't continue the 7 of 9 lesbian arc, I figured it might get most of the attention since they decided to go that route, but instead they did what they should always do: entertain and not preach their agenda. I could, literally, delete seasons 1 and 2 of Picard and just keep season 3 as a STTNG season 8.
If you are a next generation fan then you'll absolutely LOVE this season. It's got vibrant Picard, tough Riker, a toned down Troy, a silly chunky Data with a convenient excuse why an ageless android is old and fat now, a better Worf than the original, an over plasticized Crusher and BORG! It's a perfect ending.
