I was smiling the entire movie. The level of detail and care that went into this film is incredible. Tributes from the first game to the last mario game. Yes, it's a children's movie, yes, the screenplay is not a masterpiece and yes, you will like it more if you are fan of the games. But it's a fun ride from start to finish.
I was hoping for a better movie. I lost hope yesterday when it wasn’t released for critics right away. Then I noticed Tim Story (Taxi, Shaft 2019) was the director. His best movie is Barber Shop and yeah that’s about it.
On a plus side Tom & Jerry don’t talk, like in the 1993 movie. Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass) steals the show in a movie she probably shouldn’t even be in.
As a hotel events planner who used the resume of someone more qualified. She must catch Tom and Jerry to keep the job. As well as stopping them from destroying a wedding.
Other than Tom and Jerry there to destroy a nice hotel. With their usual antics. There’s really not enough of a strong plot for the movie to be 2 hours.
With that said Tom and Jerry are charming characters. This movie at least knows how to use them. Rather than them singing and dancing, like in the 1993 movie.
I agree that some characters are making dumb decisions, but they are in line with their characters. Kinsey simply has no fear. It's totally logic, that she does, what she wants or likes. Because she doesn't just have no fear for herself, but she also has no fear for others.
Gabe on the other hand simply tries to get Kinseys attention, that's why he supported her actions.
So yes, there are dumb decisions made, but I think they fit the characters at the moment. :)
I like it, when shows try to invert the characters we like, when it makes sense. And here it does, I think. :)
Being a sucker for anything '80s (G.L.O.W. and Stranger Things come to mind) and seeing how much praise this show was getting on IMDB, I decided to kick-off the new year with a new show. As far as the '80s go, there isn't much to see here, visually speaking (though it warmed my heart to see Sony's old logo), but the soundtrack is absolutely delightful!
I feared that this would become yet another teen show spent in school but, thankfully, it's the most refreshing take on the genre that I've seen in years. The aggression, violence and overall grittier mood are well executed, without falling into the tackiness that often plagues shows that try to be edgier this way. The scene where Marcus kills that hobo that harassed him earlier was great, the quick build-up was very well done, to the point of embedding a sense of bloodlust in the viewer, I can't remember the last time I felt so satisfied to see some asshole being "taken care of" on screen.
I did not know this was based in a graphic novel until I read the other comments here. It does have a comic book vibe to it, you can feel it throughout most of the episode. It's like X-Mansion without the X-gene and the moral guidelines. It's like Hoggwarts if Voldermort was in charge of things. It's like Saved by the Bell if they all did drugs. You get the point (hopefully).
I was pleasantly surprised by this pilot episode, as it shows a lot of potential, steering the viewer away from boredom and almost constantly keeping us on our toes. The grittier take on high-school clichés keeps things interesting. It also seems to borrow something from the Japanese classic Battle Royale, which can only be a good thing.
All in all, I feel as if I was watching a show that knows how to balance trying to be edgy without ending up looking like a poseur.
This has maybe the most gorgeous and realistic CG animation/art I've ever seen. It does pose the question of why not just use real actors instead of the time it must have taken to create the characters in this, but as an experiment in what is possible it's pretty mindblowing.
The story itself is excellent. I got a massive Wing Commander vibe from it all (and, now I guess it would be more apt to apply that to Star Citizen/Squadron 42 - this actually works as a pretty great trailer for that). Samira Wiley was instantly recognisable in the lead role and did a great job. What's most impressive is how engaging the story managed to be in such a short time, with the relationship forming between Colby and her ship.
The dogfight sequence above/under ground was just sublime.
This movie is weird... As in you wanna atake a bath after watching it weird...
Split is... fine. McAvoy is excellent, as is Anya Taylor-Joy, but the movie around them often isn't at their level.
Then the final twist gives it a whole new life. As an Unbreakable fan, this movie is exciting more for the promise of things to come than for the movie itself. If Unbreakable was a grounded superhero origin story, Split is a grounded supervillain origin story. Will the next Shyamalan movie be the showdown?
I fear not many people will "get" the twist in the theater. Unbreakable is one of the less known, and most underrated, Shyamalan movies. Split will certainly reignite its cult following, and I'm genuinely excited for the future of the Shyamalan Cinematic Universe.
Nor Split nor The Visit are masterpieces, but they sure are enjoyable movies, that show a director that has learned from his mistakes and is getting back on track. And I'm rooting for Shyamalan.
"I sometimes cry a lot....for no reason."
This is the Adam Sandler I'd like to see more of. He's performance was both funny and heart-breaking at the same time. But I couldn't bring myself to watch another Sandler film after this. He's gotten so lazy and doesn't bother staring in theses type of movies anymore. This film perfectly demonstrates that he's capable of more than what he's famous for. You can see the boiling rage inside of Sandler character and tries to contain it. He acts nice around other people and finds joy in the strangest way.
There's nothing else quite like it. The lighting, camera movements, framing, timing, and EXTREME attention to detail bring this film to a whole other level. Paul Thomas Anderson is lighting in the bottle.
Oh and Philip Seymour Hoffman stole the show with his "SHUT UP!".
9/10
I was totally engulfed in this film. Everything about it was well done. There was incredible character development, well-executed plot, and honestly an enjoyable world. There were multiple 'Inception' moments and SO many references to pop culture and the gaming world.
I thoroughly enjoyed the commentary on today's culture, and where we are going, taken to the extreme. It was neat to see the players who met online, meet in person and continue being friends, despite everyone being different in person. I really enjoyed that message as a gamer myself. Also funny to see commentary on corporate culture trying to take over any power available anywhere (in this case, a hobbyist gaming community.) Various good messages and insights on what the world has become/is becoming.
SUPER ENJOYABLE.
Liv and Tim echoing Will & Grace's closing line from last week's episode, "Why are the hot ones always gay or nazi?", hahaha.
This is a beautiful story, exquisitely performed! If you are not able to suspend disbelief and see truth in fantasy, I grieve for you, because you miss out on gems like this film. This story deals with loneliness, kindness, friendship, love, courage and nobility. As well as ambition, prejudice, corruption of power, cruelty and powerlessness. Guillermo del Toro wove a sensitive and beautiful story set in a sterile and cruel world. The performances are wonderful by a talented and accomplished cast. The production design brilliantly captures the romantic tension of the piece. I highly recommend this film and give it a 9 (superbly beautiful) out of 10. [Fantasy, Drama, Romance]
I used to love these movies as a kid
Fun family action flicks
Haven't seen in over 10 years
So not sure how well they have aged but probably not very well
Nick Fury, Deadpool and Elektra fight together to take down Commissioner Gordon
Barb? Barb is back? BARB? "And she has a pool" Well done.
I loved this so much as a kid. I watched the crap out of that VHS, you might say I made that tape... spin like crazy. Get it? Ok moving on.
It has been a long time since I've watched it, and my tastes in film has been slightly altered. So I thought going in that my opinion would be vastly different. But you know what? This is still really fun to watch. Sure, if you look at this scientifically it makes no sense at all. Any sort of reason or competency by the characters must have been blown away (get it? laugh this time? no, ok).
However, if you look at this as a fantasy type film, it is very enjoyable. All the characters are super over the top and fun, especially Philip Seymour Hoffman. He matches the craziness with his line deliveries. The explanation of the 'suck zone' would not have been nearly as entertaining without him.
If you're looking for a serious drama, then tornadon't watch this. But if you want to have some fun with a group of friends, then by all means tornadoo.
I loved this movie as a kid, so I thought I would re-watch it. Thankfully that wasn't a mistake. Though the movie is not as good as I remember it is still pretty good. The plot is kind of dumb, and some of the songs miss, but it is visually stunning. All the characters motion looks great and the landscapes are fantastic. Most of the songs are quite good, and the voice actors do a fine job (despite being screen actors by trade).
This movie holds up, at least for me. It might be nostalgia (probably is).
Did anybody else spot the Yul Brynner-Gunslinger cameo? Awesome!
Its been nearly 30 years since the last time i saw this and i always remember it with nostalgia. I finally got the time to see it again and the feelings were the same. Fantastic family movie for all the fans of the 80s. Turtle stole the show with his lines
A chilling classic horror/drama with the atmosphere of the 70's. An adaptation of a Stephen King's novel and directed by Brian De Palma that tells the story of Carrie a girl that is bullied in school and psychologicaly and physical abused by her christian fanatic mother.
I found some Hitchcock's elements in the film and I can see that De Palma was influenced by his works, particularly in some of the camera work and in the music score.
Another really interesting thing is the ending, now I understand where many others came up with that idea! This ending is one of the most used endings in horror/terror films! You'll understand when you see it.
Sissy Spacek is great as Carrie very creepy and believable. Piper Laurie is also amazing playing Carrie's fanatic mother.
This year will be released the remake of this film with Chloe Grace Moretz in the role of Carrie and Julianne Moore as her mother, I'm interested to know how it will be.
One of those if you blink you might miss it things, but you could see the Punisher skull symbol appearing in blood on Frank's chest after that fight.. very well done how they snuck that in!
BOY! This was a little bit weird, but it was a great horror film! I had a lot of fun watching it!
An alien that transforms into a woman to abduct people, then turn them into creepy dwarfs to be used as slaves in his home planet is weird but surely it is an original story.
The acting, a little bit forced sometimes, and the special effects might not be the greatest things but the atmosphere is great and the plot make it be a fantastic classic horror!
spoiler ahead
We all have bizarre nightmares... The film looks a little messy sometimes but at the end everything makes sense. Sometimes things in our dreams are confused and don't make a lot of sense. All of our fears and frustations are always present in our mind when we dream about something bad and I think that's what this film is trying to pass through.
Clever wordplay in the title, "en ami" means "as a friend" in French, but reads as "enemy" in English.
Fox Mulder and Walter White in the same car... what else do you need?
