A horror story with a happy ending. They should show this film in school...just think some sections of humanity would like to go back and live in societies like this, have we learned nothing from history but then again with the listening devices in our TV's, phones and the prominence of cancel culture, the deceit against basic human liberty is less transparent. These bosses are all the same, corrupt and self serving but give me one that leaves me alone to live my life, than one that interferes with my everyday existence because i don't conform to the ideology.
Nothing new here - an Astronaut figures out he is selfish and misses his wife and has Daddy issues (Ad Astra) A strange gas or ancient space dust at the edge of the galaxy used as a plot point for our protagonist to see a loved one again - oh and throw in a beautiful scene of the some reeds being washed gently by a lazy river .(Solaris)
I remember watching this back in the 90's when there seemed to be a run of studios green lighting these types of films on the back of the success of the remake of Cape Fear & Basic Instinct etc.. Blind Side fits in this mold and actually works up until a point but that ending oh what a let down f**king Clint Eastwood turns up & Rutger Huaer ends up dying like Stripe from the Gremlins..the writers should have just let Rut fall out the window and that be the end of it..
My lord - that was a powerhouse performance by Ann Savage.
There is a saying in England "losing the plot" and comments on Trakt want to find one in a film about vast quantities of narcotics :) its ironic
Don't get me wrong..i love Casablanca but every time i watch it - i often think the film would have worked better with out the Paris sequence.
More maps and i presume they'll be more traps
If they ever make a film about Tom Cruise' sidekick and scientology supreme leader they should cast Andrew Barth Feldman
Some stellar performances from all the cast along with some great editing, it's a must watch but not an easy watch. The Heart is Deceitful is not entertainment
Liquid Sky was never going to win any Oscars. It's overly pretentious , lots of hammy acting and a runtime about 40 minutes too long but it does have a pretty cool atmosphere to it that kept me watching until the end where you are rewarded with a scene that David Lynch no doubt was influenced by. Some stunning footage of early 80's New York City before gentrification polluted it. i'd give it a 7 for the movie and a 10 for experimentation. A unique little time capsule of a movie
"Synecdoche New York" & "I'm Thinking of Ending Things" does it better but still i enjoyed the trip - The movie could have been wrapped up in a couple of hours with a bit of self editing but then again we are dealing with chaotic & scattered minds and no doubt self control does not come into the picture.. I would love to have seen a couple of shots later in the film of Beau returning to his apartment with the street looking picturesque, like he has been living in the most beautiful part of town but the chaos the audience sees is the anxiety in Beau's head..i think that would have worked better....or did he really live in that street...who knows
It's Ari's therapy session and we are all paying for it.
Doubter' s watch it again...immerse in Hippy Noir
Some hammy acting and overly long but this story could have made a half decent two hour Netflix movie...these types of stories seem to be the go on there. That's why i don't subscribe :)
This wasn't half bad - a soundtrack that influenced "It Follows" maybe. Pretty atmospheric...was it a cannibal movie - a body snatchers - movie - a zombie movie ? A good solid film that would have been even better without the unnecessary voiceover.
Do you realise it's snowing in my room
A long David Lynch short
File alongside your horror movie collection.
This is a film i missed back in the 90's -and well i didn't miss much and i don't think its even because i'm older now either. I could see right off the bat that Stevo was a poser...No shock ending here and that geezer had the audacity to slate the English :) our films about subculture stomp all over this mess....check out This is England, Quadrophenia and Northern Soul to name but a few. There was a story in there somewhere and a different approach and cast may have turned SLC Punk into a half decent movie. Shaggy as a punk just wasn't believable enough and ultimately Stevo lived up to his Dad's perception of him being a cartoon character.
I noticed the soundtrack soften up like Stevo as the film went on ...did i hear Spandau Ballet FFS :)
One bonus is Annabeth Gish looked as great as always
The greatest and most beautiful possession movie since the Exorcist
I don't get the love. I think Black Phone was poorly acted with a generic story, no real tension and lazy script writing with a lazy plot point , a-la... the girl has dreams... The only thing going for it was the production ( a point to the marketing team for persuading me too watch it due to the creepy as f*ck masks...all style and no substance
I was fearing the worst but the remake turned out to be okay ...Like the regression back to the 1940's version you just need to get your brain into a 70's way of thinking. The bedroom conversation between Anna & Graham regarding adultery cracked me up...just so blase' and what a relief for Anna :)
Interesting but i feel it could have dug just a little deeper and only skimmed the surface. Like the other cult Scientology amongst others the banishment of loved ones and constant brainwashing is detrimental and complete opposite of love when surely god should be all encompassing.
Paradise.. well if people think they are really going to Paradise then i think why wait around here...off you go. We should be making this life paradise because this life is certain the after life is not.
Good all round performances...Ivanna was certainly a happy Jehovah and found lots of comfort at the Kingdom Hall (sarcasm)
I'll need to look out the French original film also check out the masterpiece Mr Holland's Opus
As a Pistons fan in the late 80's this was still a good watch :)
There is a good film in there somewhere....this was a mash up of American Psycho / Drop Dead Fred / Jacobs ladder
I would have probably loved this when i was 13 but im just to old now :) absolute wicked Soundtrack ...i'm off to listen to some Stranglers ....haven't played them in a while
This was a beautiful mess...the story was a mess ...the design and production were beautiful. I liked the Stepford Wives premise behind the story but it was just executed so badly.
Please studios...its about story story story first...no one wants a turd sandwich with sprinkles on .......the story must come first and the style should always be an afterthought.
When you get into your 40's lets see how agile you all are and lets see if your voice still sounds the same...give Ahsoka a break ..jeez :)
Love the set up and references in the earlier episodes regarding Back to the Future 2 which came into play in the final episodes. One of the greatest self help books i've ever watched. This series is like a rollercoaster ride at Coney Island...
I gave it a watch because iv'e always loved the performances of Nina Moss. I don't think there is an actress in the world that can be so classy and beautifully melancholic at the same time....and again she doesn't disappoint in Return to Montauk. I could relate to the story as i have been in a similar situation in my own life that thankfully turned out far better than Max , Rebecca & Clara's. Ive always admired Stellan Skarsgard but he just seemed so miscast...maybe i missed the point and he was meant to be a glum old git with no personality. I think Rebecca got away with it :) Oh and the soundtrack is just beautiful.
