I was surprised by how much I liked this. I went in with low expectations of just a dumb action movie, which it still kinda is, but it is also a decent sci-fi and the action is pretty great. The beginning is a little slow but once Grey gets Stem then it picks up. Logan Marshall-Green (or better known as the Tom Hardy look-alike, Tom Hardly) does a good job here. He moves like a robot pretty well. The action is great. There are plenty of action scenes and the short runtime makes it move fast. There are a few decent laughs too. The cinematography was very interesting too. The way the camera moves in certain action scenes are really cool, it makes a normal scene stick out as something special. One of the best things was the world it set up. Modifying humans with different upgrades is really cool. The whole gun in the arm is stupid but a crazy, cool stupid and I want to see more of that. I would like a sequel.
☼ a masterpiece ☼
someone: what’s up?
me: thinking about The Korean Gothic Lesbian Revenge Thriller That’s Captivated Cannes
beautiful acting, great directing, astounding writing, i simply love being slapped in the face by plot twists and this was an especially amazing movie because it not only had one twist but two!
i mean i had to take a fukcing step back because that shook me in the best possible way god bless you chan-wook
Like Deus Ex meets Crank, Upgrade is a stylish, gritty but somehow humorous thriller which is a blast from start to finish.
fun movie. the concept has been done before, to a point -- yet, the material felt fresh. I was a big fan of the camera movements when "activated"
I was pleasantly surprised by this. The synopsis makes it sound boring but once you watch it, its pretty entertaining.
It's been some time since I've seen a movie that I had the feeling I should/could/would watch again and again and again but this... I definitely will.
A marvel on so many levels... the cinematography alone! And the soundtrack... and the acting. I adore this movie. It has not left my mind since I've seen it and it will be there for quite some time I think.
Such a happy little optimistic, positive and life-affirming little story! Honest.
BEST ROMANTIC COMEDY IN YEEEARSSSSS
It only took me 5 minutes to start cringing at this show. American gringo with fake Russian accent. Currently there doesn’t seem to go one American show/movie by without a dig at Russia. It's okay, but could they seriously not find a native Russian actor? Is this so hard for Hollywood?
Somehow, this movie had me actually hooked the entire time. I'm not even sure how, as I intended to get some work done while having it play in the background.
All I can say is I loved the main characters and felt the relationship between Amanda and Lily was very well played out and developed. Also some incredible character development for Lily, which shows that she's even worse than Amanda was, or at least the capacity for much worse. One a sociopath, one a psychopath.
Highly recommend, if you are able to follow unusual movie's and odd plotlines.
Empire got nothing on Power! Now this is great TV.
A bit difficult to follow along with if you're not really interested in white collar crime but fantastic acting, really good writing and story telling. A+ cast. Paul Giamatti is a stand out. I'd personally enjoy more diversity but definitely worth the watch.
The bad thing about this show is that we only get to see it once a year and only 6 episodes :(
This movie is weird and slow. The music is good and story is interesting, it went places I didn't think of. Anton Yelchin (RIP) was great in his last performance but there wasn't enough of him.
Finished watching the show, characters are very well developed and you feel for them. Definitely a must watch, 10/10.
Really great show. All the actors have a great acting, and I'm most excited about Ghost and Tommy. Tommy plays PERFECTLY the "white boy from the hood", while trying to keep a Russian accent. Ghost on the other hand is always on point with his acting, talking like a businessman and someone to be reckoned with, all while letting subtle street talk chime in when it's needed. The premise is interesting as is, but the people of the show make it really great. I love how it progresses and changes, the twists, the crossroads that each character has to face. Just an FYI, has lot's of sex in it, I personally didn't mind.
I thought a Batman series without Batman was a joke, i was wrong. The pilot is an amazing start
Nacho gets caught in a risky, staged incident that almost physically kills him but the Cousins come and save him before it is too late. Jimmy goes to Mike for his plan to steal something for money, Mike turns the offer down and Jimmy finds someone else to help him out and the plan goes through. Kim begins to feel the stress of her job and hires her own paralegal. Jimmy reads Chuck's letter which leaves Kim in tears. The best part of this episode was the new cameo appearance of Gale Boetticher from Breaking Bad who worked with Walter at one point to make meth. I was full of delight to watch Gus planning out the foundation for his empire which would include the help of others we eventually see in Breaking Bad.
I don't normally comment on movies but I'll make an exception for this because it was astonishing. Chan-wook normally makes you sit up and take notice of his work and this was no exception. I think it's a masterpiece. I was open mouthed at both the beauty and the way the plot unravelled. An absolute must see. 9/10
A quirky, angsty but deep comedic thriller that had me hooked from the very first scene.
Like Juno with a murder plot. If either of those speak to you, give Thoroughbreds a shot. It's definitely worth your time.
worth watching, the end episode just make you want more from the 2nd season, 50 Cent will be the critical point in the second season
I liked this movie pretty well. Good use of camera. The premise is a bit played, but this movie executes it perfectly.
It was filmed in Melbourne (not the one in Florida), and as someone from there it shows. It seems crazy that this is meant to be set in New York.
I've never seen my home town tried to be passed off as a different place in a movie and it was quite jarring. Do people in LA get that all the time?
Unrelated anecdotes aside, strong recommend for this movie.
One of the best tv shows ever , I just wish it was on more frequently.
This picture is a true marvel.
It defies romanticism, it defies comedy, it defies drama. This movie is entirely in it's own league and level.
It's sexy, and interesting, and captivating all at the same time.
It touches taboos, makes them feel completely normal. It drives the watcher to feel included.
This is a movie that everyone should watch.
An absolute must-see, but best seen without paying attention to any plot synopsis or spoilers for maximum effect. This is one of the best films I have seen in quite some time, and certainly one of the most surprising. Don't let the long running time or subtitles put you off. I'm saying nothing more in fear of giving something away - consider me spellbound!
I'm so glad I came across this movie, it's one of my all time favorites now! I watched it with my roommate, who isn't much of a fan of foreign movies due to the captions she would have to follow. This movie literally converted her to watch more foreign films. It's filled with dark secrets, even darker characters and keep you on the edge of your seat.
When I think about the experience I had with this movie a few words come to mind: refreshing, passionate, chaotic, exciting and last but not least sensual.
Whether it is the compelling story, the acting or the narrative structure, It hooks you up and fascinates you to the extent that time seems insufficient and you are left with the sensation of wanting more.
Truly a masterpiece and simply delightful.
Not one character that I liked. Never finished the season. Moving on...
The scary thing is that this is actually quite well made. It presents as well educated voices (some of them with relevant qualifications, some without, some who have spent their time building social profiles, some who prefer being on chat shows) telling you about how someone isn't giving you all the facts, interspersed with personal appeals by affected parents, and a bit of Government conspiracy.
Sadly, it's really weak on balance - and if there are experts shown briefly, they were edited in to look like weirdos. The bias makes it fairly challenging for anyone familiar with critical thinking to comment to watching, rather than just turning off after 10 minutes.
It's the perfect documentary for a world that "people in this country have had enough of experts" (thanks Michael Gove) and can accept "alternative facts" (thanks Kellyanne Conway). But so unfair to parents to kids on the ASD, who have so much to deal with already.
This is the best series I've watched in a long time. Can't wait for the next season.
