Elvis

A great theatrical, emotional roller coaster, entertaining, edge of seat kind of film that you love to see about a music icon. This is not your average non fiction story line type film about a celebrity, but a plot twisting story line jumping, action packed roller coaster type movie taking the audience on a hell of a ride about Elvis. The good, bad and ugly. Whether it was too much about his manager taking advantage of him or too much about the attraction fans felt for him or the impact he had in the civil rights movement, it was all very well done as it showed how much of a positive and historical impact he made on the music industry.

What a fantastic combination of Chucky and Anabelle. This film follows a young girl who losses her parents suddenly and has to go live with her aunt who is an engineer for a toy company. Instead of bonding with her niece she created a living robotic doll to take over the parenting and to be the girl's friend. But all turns to hell as the doll gets over protective. The lead up to the main premise of the film is a bit slow but necessary. The film has black comedy, great action and incredible filming and of course a creative plot. So unique in the horror aspect that its hard to not rewatch over and over again.

Smile

A very good psychiatric thriller that presents an evil entity that enters peoples minds once they witness a suicide and then goes on to play tricks on them. Filming reality vs non non reality and the minds tricks is very well done in this film and keeps one on the edge of their seat. However, the big thing holding this movie back from being average is plot progression. The beginning felt rushed into for starters; and secondly, as the film went on it seemed (as one would expect from any movie) that this evil entity would get whats coming to it and the main characters would have a conclusion, but the ending revealed to be more of the same, as if nothing had changed from the start of the plot; essentially no climax.

The Outfit

A fantastic cinematic masterpiece. This is a film for movie bluffs and/or videographers who like to dive deep into the analysis of a movie. This film takes place in one setting and takes a lot of effort to unravel everything from plot to characters to antagonists to conflict, ect. Starts out slow and normal then takes a turn, but overall it certainly keeps you on the edge of your seat the entirety of the film. The close up and intense acting to fit the script is very entertaining. However, if you are a person who just wants a generic entertaining film that doesn't use much brain power, this is not the movie for you.

I.S.S.

Just a good simple thriller that is not over budget and dragged out. This film gets right into the plot and keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entirety, as it follows the group of astronauts at the ISS made up of Russians and Americans who notice what seems to be a war breaking out below, and after receiving a coded message from both countries chaos strikes into the plot. The characters are well casted, for the most part, and the plot twists are great. What was not expected was the humane message that it gave of how important it is as a human race to be there for each other and not let politics get in the way.

The Lost City

A unique idea for a slap stick comedy. Even if one doesn't care for the plot the many famous actors/actresses will keep one entertained. However, this film is quite good as the plot of a romance/erotica writer who is still grieving her archeologist husband gets wrapped up with some bad guys who are in search for the fictional treasure in her book. As it turns out it's actually real, but not physical. So they go on a comically bad adventure that has some romance thrown in.

Dumb Money

Unusual that a history breaking true story gets a movie made from it just 2 years after it's events, but nevertheless this was a very well made and entertaining film about the stock shortage of Gamestop. The fact that it started in the heat of the action and introducing all of the characters in a unique way that has to do with the root of the story is vey intriguing. I loved that the whole film was upbeat and went along to the rhythm of the situation. The way they tied in the flashbacks of the past of the characters was really cool. As well as the way they took random assorted characters to represent the way this thing affected all kinds of people and how as one they all had a big part of history.

Peter Pan & Wendy

Just an absolute fantastic live action of Peter Pan finally made by Disney after all the others that have been made throughout the years. The casting is truly perfect, especially for Peter Pan and Wendy. The CGI and sets help make this film a great spectacle of a coming of age story that brings the audience to tears. The plot development other than the beginning being a bit rushed and some plot points being glossed over, was good. But it doesn't matter that some points were glossed over as the story is so well known that there is no need to make this film for an audience that knows nothing. The insight into Peter's and Hook's relationship was a great touch as well as Wendy being the motherly figure that all lost boys ran away from. Just all in all nothing short of perfection for Disney with pixie dust sprinkled on top in an incredible way.

Wish

What a great concept by Disney to create a film based around what they believe in and practice as this film follows a magical town that is run by a king who keeps everyone’s wishes and desires, safe supposedly until something unexpected happens, and a rising star has to come to the rescue in a young teenage girl. There was some good music in this film, but not enough to your liking as most Disney films have. It was comical, funny and emotional like all Disney films usually are but it seemed like it was missing that something special. So if there was a little bit more music and had that special flare, this movie would get a 10 out of 10. But because it does not, it is just a solid Well done movie.

The Little Mermaid

May be Disney's best live action yet. Yes, there is some controversy surrounding the lead actress, Hailey Bailey, not fitting the part, but take out that controversy, she was fantastic. Outside of a couple new songs and some new small characters, the plot was essentially the same, good development, but more time could have been spent on the background of Ariel's family. It was also dragged on a tad. However, what made this film an A+ was the casting, music, and most of all the CGI and filming, especially for "A Part of Your World." Disney just keeps blowing my mind with the filming of these new live actions.

Champions

A good feel good inspirational film about a failing professional basketball coach who ends up coaching a rec center disability team after his temper gets the best of him which the law forces him to community service.
The plot development, or even more importantly, the character development is what makes this movie great, as the coach bonds with the players and makes him and the audience look at things in a different light. Their fight for the special Olympics on and off the court is as inspiring. Acting was superb.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

A brilliantly composed creatively unique film surrounding Nicholas Cage to personify the "superstar actor's" way of life in a comical sense. This movie has everything from comedy to drama to action to even a little bit of romance. Somewhere in the middle of all of the high intensity action scenes is a story of a how a man (Nicholas Cage) with a high demanding job that has him under a microscope finds his way, emotionally, back to his ex-wife and teenager daughter, all while making a new unexacting friendship. The appearances of several other famous actors to support the role of Nicholas Cage playing himself just adds to to creative comedy portion of this movie. Lastly, if there is any film that does comical action, this is it.

Father Stu

Such a great/emotional/inspiring true story and a perfect actor to fit the role. Overall premise of the film is great, but the middle and climax was certainly a bit drawn out (a bit too long). The initial set up of the story line could have gone into more depth and felt like all the key points of the story were a bit rushed. However the premise itself was very entertaining and intriguing as its about a young man who is struggling with getting his life together that ends up finding God through an unconventional and random way by being fixated on picking up a young lady who happened to be very involved in her church.

The trailer for this film certainly is misleading but in a good way, as it makes it seem this movie will be a bit strange with a "Hereditary" type vibe or "Midosommar." But it turned out to be a full out slasher horror film with a dirty twist. Very much a modern style typical farm/out in the middle of nowhere "Killer hunts victims" horror film like "Texas Chainsaw Massacre." Scenery is very well done, one would never know that the movie was filmed in a totally different location than the plot takes place. Actors are pretty well known and do a great job. Only negative comment I haver for this movie is that it was a bit fast, not enough plot build up. But overall it certainly keeps you on your toes and entertained.

Ordinary Angels

Not a Emmy award winning film by any stretch but was really well done for telling such a wonderful uplifting true story. The casting was great. Could have had a bit more of a build up in the beginning and character meet and greet but all in all the plot development was phenomenal and the they did a great job enhancing the important/most important parts. This story follows a family in a small KY town who just lost the mother to illness and now the 5 year old is dying and under a mountain of debt. This story really makes you re-think faith and people as despite all the obstacles they have to over come to save this girl the small town rises up to help her.

White House Down

Wow wow wow, let's first talk about the casting cause that was brilliant. Look, there is nothing special here about the plot of an attack of the White House from within cause people are angry, blah blah blah, but it was a very entertaining plot. The way it introduced each main character and then submerge them immediately into the thick of what was going on at the current time was brilliant as it made the audience fall in love with them and be close to each one of them as the journey goes on which makes for many emotional scenes and a great ending. One last great part was the multiple big twists, especially at the end.

Hercules

One of my favorite Disney movies. Such a great heartfelt plot that everyone can relate to. The music is iconic and uplifting as it fits in perfectly with the good plot development. The story follows the kidnapping of a child of the gods and how that child realizes the real truth when he grows up and how he goes to the ends of the Earth to fulfill his destiny and reunite with his birth parents.

Bodies Bodies Bodies

A stupid weird over dramatized film about a group of young rich kids in their 20's who are partying at a big mansion and play a drinking game that goes array. The game is a type of murder mystery game, that actually turns real, thus leaving the audience on the edge of their seats all night trying to figure out the culprit. What seemed to be a horror thrasher film actually turns out to be a comedy/drama/thriller mix, which is quite strange. The drama that is caused between these characters from all the drinking and drugs is over dramatized and gets annoying. Plus the surprise ending was sort of stupid. A kind of movie for a fun night in with friends, but not worth a $15 movie ticket.

Fall

A classic survivor/thrill movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire way, as two young female climbers take a big risk to climb one of the tallest cell towers in the world in order to soul search after a dear friend passed away. Unlike most survival movies the sentimental story behind this plot is a bit deeper than normal and ties the entirety of the film together really well. And there is a horror/gore aspect that was unexpected, but a bit over done. The one negative aspect of this film is that the climb and the fight for survival at the top take up basically the entire film so the ending was very rushed. Overall the sentimental tie in this story and the filming of the little details of the climb in order to foreshadow was incredibly well done.

Not at all what I expected, as I was expecting a true heart pounding thrilling survival story, but really what it was was a very believable realistic survival story with a very deep meaning. As half of the film was a edge of your seat rescue/survival mission that could happen to anyone, the other half had some interesting twists as it was about the aftermath and reconnecting of the two main characters, and them getting to know each other officially for the first time, as they realized their stories are very similar.

The Boys in the Boat

What a greatly filmed historic underdog film about the rowing team at University of Washington in the late 1930’s who make it all the way to the Berlin Olympics. They did a great job by basing the film around the coach and a main rower to show the symbolism of the film that the journey was bigger than just one person. They rushed through some main points a bit and it would have been nicer to get to know the other characters a bit better. But the filming and plot development was so emotional and great.

Napoleon

This was an epic movie on a large scale with big time actor Phoenix portraying Napoleon very well. It was more the story and showing of Napoleon's character and personal life rather than the historical impact and accuracy of the events that occurred around that time in France. The audience really had to know the history in order to follow the plot as the long length film scrolled through about 30 years. That was the only negative as the main premise seemed to be centered around Napoleon himself. The filming and character development is what kept the audience on the edge of their seat as well as the fun drama filmed France that was made out to be a wirlwind.

The Blackening

Now this is a great unique film as it is and isn't a dark comedy and horror movie at the same time. It keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time waiting for either the next great joke or the next jump scare, as this film follows a group of black friends who are reuniting from their college days by renting out a cabin for the weekend but it suddenly turns into horror as they are seemingly hunted in the house. The plot development and character development is great, but what makes this for such a great watch is the uniqueness of the blend of racist comedy and horror. Its like "Haunted House" except that the horror part is actually real. And of course there is a big plot twist at the end.

Oppenheimer

A unique cinematic piece as the way the story of Robert Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project was told was very interesting keeping the audience on the edge of their seats for the entire 3 hours making it properly long. The theatrics of the bomb making and interwinding it with a wild visual of Oppenheimer's brain, as his brilliance is incredible, is quite entertaining and interesting, but here wasn't as much of it as I would have hoped. The film emphasized a lot on the "trial" of Oppenheimer as he was accused of being a potential communist spy. This was fine but it made the storyline a bit hard to follow and a bit less exciting as the draw is the bomb making. Lastly, the emphasis on the pride of the US making history was an added bonus.

Liar Liar

A Jim Carry classic. Very brilliant improv acting in this film by Jim Carry over a heartfelt plot about a father developing a better relationship with his son and having the realization to earn the trust of his ex-wife back all the while battling a curse that doesn't allow this lawyer of a character to lie which is the whole premise of the comedy portion that leads to a whole lot of hilarious skits that require a lot insane facial expressions and imrpov.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Very good prequil to Harry Potter. A bit long but very good. It has so many prequil ties that it makes for a very entertaining watch for a big Harry Potter fan, but for a non fan it might be hard to follow. The filming and acting is fantastic as well as the special affects which are always so entertaining in the Wizarding movies. The story line was easy enough to follow with everything you would want from romance / comedy / drama / action / surprising twists and turns. Overall though the ties from Harry Potter are so intriguing like the fact that Scamander knows a Lestrange descendent and he got kicked out of Hogwarts but Dumbledore was on his side. Also, the whole movie being a lot about catching the obscurity giving so many hints about the power source maybe having something to do with Voldermort later on in the time table.

Dog

Very disappointing. Had a promising premise of a heart warming story of a military man's developing bond with a retired military dog, which it does have but other sub plots become too large which makes the movie feel unfinished or rushed. Certainly some sweet scenes showing the bond between the dog and main character, but some unnecessary scenes smear the entertaining main plot points and then all of a sudden its the end of the movie.

Hereditary

A very generic thriller/paranormal movie, and it is understood that this kind of movie does have a slow moving plot, but I felt it was too slow then sped up surprisingly fast half way through. The plot twists were certainly crazy and odd enough for a movie like this to be entertaining enough for this genre's fanbase but maybe not enough for drawing more fans. Overall though a very well made movie with a cool spooky, yet normal atmosphere that turns very strange and dark.

Civil War

Not at all what I thought this film would be. Here I was thinking it would be a typical apocalypse type film going into detail about the civil war plot and following a group of activists, but instead it follows closely a group of journalists on the front lines as they travel to the heart of it all to get a story from a main source. There is very little about whats going on around them and more on the importance of taking photos and getting full info from the scene and how beauty can be found in anything. This is more of a artistic piece that portrays amazing filming and slow motion impact moments.

War for the Planet of the Apes

Again like the 2nd film, the time gap between films starts with some unanswered questions but once you get past that the film very good and entertaining. Again the filming of the apes is very good, but this time the casting was a bit better. This one unlike the 2nd one did give the audience some deeper insight into apes history and into Caesar and also the start of the apocalypse. It’s a bit drawn out the film but it makes for a great somewhat fulfilling end.
