Different from the first in all the right ways while expanding its own identity. The villain becomes secondary to a larger plot in a natural way.
This sequel takes even more liberties with the art style and uses each dimension’s art to set them apart beyond just structure. Gwen’s universe in particular uses constantly shifting colors and focuses to show character emotions visibly, which I appreciated more the second viewing. The story, this time, still features Miles but isn’t only about him. At first, I was upset, but the film came to balance all the threads. I kept fluctuating between hating and loving other characters (Gwen). Also, this film isn’t afraid of silence and pauses, which was refreshing in this ‘constantly stimulated’ day and age.
Incredibly rare for the first and second to be this highly rated by me. The first is more emotional, second brings more conflict and group dynamics.
9/10
I was totally engulfed in this film. Everything about it was well done. There was incredible character development, well-executed plot, and honestly an enjoyable world. There were multiple 'Inception' moments and SO many references to pop culture and the gaming world.
I thoroughly enjoyed the commentary on today's culture, and where we are going, taken to the extreme. It was neat to see the players who met online, meet in person and continue being friends, despite everyone being different in person. I really enjoyed that message as a gamer myself. Also funny to see commentary on corporate culture trying to take over any power available anywhere (in this case, a hobbyist gaming community.) Various good messages and insights on what the world has become/is becoming.
SUPER ENJOYABLE.
So, Nate was never reported for assaulting Tyler and almost killing him (which doesn't just go un-questioned in a hospital), and then Jules doesn't think to report Nate for printing child pornography? That shit is a slam dunk and easy to prove he printed it, and he's not exactly a mastermind.
There are just so many plot holes and things that make no logical sense for the sake of drama. I expected more from HBO.
Disgusting amounts of racism. The entire movie portrays white people as killers, Nazis, and politicians. And black people as 'the saviour's of the community' and a gross romanticsised view of gangs. Pay attention, you won't see one white person portrayed as helping the community, and you won't see one black person working with the government.
I also was disappointed at the amount of gorr or scare. I have seen a lot of shit, and this movie's darkest moments were absolutely basic and boring. An entire island can do anything they want, they wouldn't be nice. Society is far more degraded than this movie portrays, which disappointed me. I was expecting to see some realism, but experienced none of it.
While I was totally captivated by the skillful animation, the story was very general and basic, with some familiar characters thrown in along the way to distract from a barebones story.
I liked the entry into the internet, seeing the other Disney characters, and the mid-credit scenes. Other than that this film was mostly meh.
Expected a comedy, but got hit in the feels :')
Excellent movie with a familiar cast. I think the screenplay did a great job of making you feel you were actually along for the journey, a point most romcoms miss horribly. There was a special connection with a lot of the characters I felt. While it had funny moments (by predicament or culture), I wouldn't categorize this as a comedy, just romance/drama. Still not disappointed that I saw it though.
Liked the first movie, but this one felt.... Milked. They were almost always running from something, which got quite repetitive. While 'run' is in the series name, it still got old very quickly.
The main character, Thomas, seemed to be the only one who was being developed as a character. Everyone else was bland.
Hank truly is my favorite character. Glad he got much more screentime. Well done character development with him getting upset at Barry and pushing Barry to do the job, cold like. Although the pop music when Hank gets back into his car was perfectly in character for him and made me laugh :joy:
I also thought Barry's scene explaining his first kill was a great addition to his backstory.
Good way to end the season. Truly heartbreaking that Ingrid would kill herself for Nathan.
Quality of this season is decreasing so quickly. Started out solid, but now it's just a S03 repeat.
By the same writer as the first, which I think saved the movie in the end. Don't watch expecting an exact continuation of characters from the first movie.
Benecio del Toro did an incredible job carrying the movie along, offering a ton of acting with almost no dialogue. Isabela also did a superb bringing lots of character.
the movie had a lull after Matt's team was ordered to clean up Alejandro, but was quickly saved by some more intense...not even action, but tension. Alejandro meeting the deaf local, was a very touching and surprisingly emotional scene, and it made me respect his character ten fold.
I absolutely loved how this film utilized silence, long pauses, intense stares and no dialogue almost more than it's predecessor. Overall, it captivated my attention (hard to do) completely, and had me quiet throughout the entire movie.
I would totally recommend it, if you are able to translate the use of dialogue, but also the lack of dialogue as movie story.
I'm really excited to see the friendship between Rue and Ali (I loved the actor in Fear The Walking Dead). Also excellent scene between Rue and Fez, if not heartbreaking.
Easily my favorite animated film in the last 5 years.
Where most animation suffers from plot dragging, too much comedy, or unrealistic character's, this one had none of these issues. The beginning captured me, meeting Miles, his uncle, and Spider Man - everything felt like how life happens, as opposed to 'random chance'.
There is so much about this art piece I loved, I can't even recount it all. The music was very fitting, and all voice talent well placed. A scene that gave me chills and tears at the same time, was the entire monologue of Miles' father while he was tied up, all the way through Miles discovering himself, painting the suit, and swinging through the city. That entire scene was perfect in every way - the music, the visuals, the emotion from the buildup, everything. The last time I was filled with that much emotion from animation was when Hiccup and Toothless met and were drawing in the sand, in How To Train Your Dragon.
I also loved the art style. It somehow clearly set itself apart from other animation, while simultaneously being beautiful, and at times realistic. I would love to see more of this style.
Man, not even express, romantic love, and yet this is one of the strongest displays of love in every meaning of the word I can think of. Brilliant episode.
This episode is so sweet, and shows just how quickly you can know someone if you are present, caring, and honest.
Somehow, this movie had me actually hooked the entire time. I'm not even sure how, as I intended to get some work done while having it play in the background.
All I can say is I loved the main characters and felt the relationship between Amanda and Lily was very well played out and developed. Also some incredible character development for Lily, which shows that she's even worse than Amanda was, or at least the capacity for much worse. One a sociopath, one a psychopath.
Highly recommend, if you are able to follow unusual movie's and odd plotlines.
3.5/10
This is movie is pretty much an excuse for Oprah to be bigger than everyone else in the film.
No, really.
The casting director on this should be shot. All performances felt so, very, incredibly fake. The only believable character was played by Chris Pine. EVERYONE else we come across is just awful. It could be the writing, the directing, etc, but the actors seem to be at fault here. It seemed so important to them to have a diversified racial palate of actors, that maybe they were just looking for a race, as opposed to an actual performance. I am not being racist, just look at the film and you will see what I mean.
The visuals were ok, but clearly very CGI. They didn't even try to get the lighting right on many parts, and that disgusts me for what this movie (original story from the book) could have been.
There is no development. You are thrown into these weird, unexplained characters, with a moody, but yet expressionless character (Meg). Then all of a sudden, they are on another planet, with some random dude joining them (Calvin), then suddenly the mothers (whatever the shit you call the big 3) disappear. Like. Why are they even in the movie? Idk.
I want my time back.
This film does an incredible job showing life integrated with AI and robotics, and it does it emotionally and beautifully. While there’s certainly influences from many Sci-fi stories we already know, this movie depicts very real emotions caused and felt by the AI characters. The sound design was superb as well - with many of the impactful moments being completely silent instead of tormented with a soundtrack to tell you how to feel.
A plan where only 5 bystanders get hurt. It's called arson hahaha
8.3/10
I will readily admit, I was initially just interested in this movie because of Jennifer Lawrence.
The beginning was a tad bit slow, but don't let that deter you. The rest of the film you will be trying to catch up to what is going on. I will need to see this a second time to begin to understand all the intricacies of the plot, which was unpredictable (my favorite characteristic of any plot).
Throughout, the intentions of Dominica are never clear. She seems to genuinely serve both sides, and yet, equally betrays both sides. I don't think she cares about anyone but her mother. Even the 'love' she shows to Nate, turns out to be a means to an end. I personally loved that I could not tell what was in her head because it kept me guessing.
Some of the acting felt disingenuous, but the main leads (especially Lawrence), were astonishing. The soundtrack worked well, and there really wasn't any 'fake' action to take away from a beautiful plot.
By the end of the film, you will be confused beyond all reason. Lawrence's character developed into a psychopath - a product of the system she was put in.
Such a great episode!
The part where Fitz was on the alien planet, and the only audio was the music... Man. I haven't felt that intensity in a show for quite some time. Glad Simmons is back :D
Damn what a finale. Beautiful, simply beautiful.
A very disappointing season for one of my all-time favorite shows. Perhaps TJ Miller was the glue that held it all together, as without him this show just doesn't have its usual magic and good flavor.
Better than other reviewers made it out to be. Enough unique elements to not blur in with other action movies.
The plot supposes that cops bending the rules, are in the right somehow? Nick did multiple things that Major Crimes simply would not allow him to do, while he was not even undercover. He summed it up best when he said 'we are the bad guys'. I was really hoping the heist crew got away with it, because they simply had better standards than the cops in this. So when the police suddenly became 'the good guys', I became confused and even frustrated.
Really enjoyed the action sequences, and even the rest of the movie, except for anytime Nick was on screen.
Dang, this storyline is intricate. With the new character and info from Ganymede, what's next?
Also, I love the Tycho security chick :D
"$1000 for plastic button covers?!?" Presses launch button by accident
Lmao, I feel like this is something that could actually happen too
Skippable episode. Both the acting and the plot felt bland here.
This episode is perfect in every way. TONS of comedic relief from my favorite, NoHo Hank. Intense backstory moments for Barry, re-unification of Barry and Fuches was great and emotional. I liked the ending, seeing the killer in Barry boiling, and then seemingly unleashed on Sam.
This brings me back to “The Killing” type vibe - very dark environment and feel. I really enjoyed this and think Chris Evans is a natural, can’t wait to see how it progresses.
