Nice to see that Mulder kept the NICAP hat. That was a nice touch.

This was phenomenal. Astonishingly captivating. I'm in awe. Brad Dourif was so good.

Brad Dourif all the way. I see exactly why he was cast as Lon Suder in Star Trek: Voyager two years later.

His IMDB profile still has some stuff in pre-production. Time to make a Google alert or something for when stuff he's in comes out.

Mr Brad killed it in this episode.

One of the best episodes in the first season and even the entire series. Brad Dourif did an EXCELLENT job, perfect execution in every single scene, paired with the struggles Dana experiences. She is starting to believe. :)

Fantastic episode!

WOW! Amazing emotional episode for Scully! I felt so sorry for her finding out about her father, and right after having to deal with Boggs telling her he had a message. LOVED seeing her saying to Mulder that she already knows the message because he was her father.

Yo no way Charles Lee Ray!!!

This episode actually left me speechless... Genuinely one of the best pieces of television that I've ever seen. Dourif absolutely eats up the scenery, and Anderson gives a fantastic grieving performance of someone who just lost their father suddenly and needs closure. If you tried X-Files before and gave up, I would recommend giving this episode a shot as it holds its own place in the series.

Glad to reaffirm years later that this is still a masterpiece. Brad Dourif is great, of course, but Gillian Anderson gets her full showcase of the series, and knocks it out of the park; she's the emotional grounding that elevates the whole episode. The way her voice winds down to a choked-up whimper at the end of "I’ll believe you, if you let me talk to him" is breathtaking.

Scully's father dies and then appears to her as an apparition, mouthing some unheard words. It's really creepy. Brad Dourif knocks it out of the park as Luther Lee Boggs, a possibly psychic mass murderer.

Secondary characters in this episode: Luther Lee Boggs
