Season 10

I can't believe that after two seasons this stupid "Whisperer War" is still going on. It's boring, played out just as slowly as the "Savior War" if not slower, and it's taken the show nowhere fast. Beyond the whole "Why would these people follow two crazed idiots who constantly kill their own people?" question, you also need to realize timeline wise how long this is all supposed to be. The war with Negan lasted just over three weeks in the story, this new war has gone over well past a year, how long is it going to drag on? Why have the "Good guys" not just put on whisperer masks and killed them off already? Why after Beta keeps killing people do they not shoot him instead of an undead Gamma? Ugh. Enough already. Then instead of ending the season they blame the corona virus for not doing post-production until the days before it airs? Enough's enough, let this show die it's slow death before it turns into a walker too.

Now that this season is finally over a year and a half after it started, I can say with confidence this was the worst season the show ever produced. They tried to blame covid first for a long delay to post produce their original finale, then put out absolutely horrifyingly bad episodes that they called "Extra episodes" which fanboys of the show defend being so bad because they were shot during covid, which is a problem no other shows or movies have had. The problem here isn't covid, it's that the show didn't end when it should have and now the writer's are out of ideas and the characters that you once cared about are empty vessels dragging the show along.

I can't believe this show I once loved is such a drag now.

MY THOUGHTS ON SEASON 10:

Well this was long... Very long. As a whole the Season was decent, wasn't anything special but it wasn't awful. It had some really good moments and some really boring moments, unfortunately to me they all ended up being a tad bit unmemorable. You can tell they've started trying to make the show a lot more horror again and its definitely a good thing, in fact it's one of the saving graces for season 10.

With Daryl now the central character and having a lot more screen time I've come to realise he's not too good as the main character. Whenever he's given long talks or people look at him as the leader it seems way, way too forced. He comes across as cringe and uncomfortable. If anything they should have given the main character role to Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan, I feel like that would have been a lot better for conversation and storytelling.

If I'm honest I can't remember much of Season 10 due to the ridiculous gaps, this season just felt like a massive blur and the only emotion that sparks when I think back on it is boredom. The season pretty much ended on episode 15, the unnecessary wait for the finale (due to covid - weird how no other show struggled with the things TWD struggled with huh?) caused a lot of hype for me to die down. I remember finding out it was delayed and then just completely forgetting about the show.

With this season I'd say the best moments are when Alpha dies and finally when Beta dies... Conveniently two moments where Negan is involved. Jeffrey Dean Morgan absolutely carries this show and without him it'd be an even bigger disaster. The scene where he killed Alpha was executed to perfection, I had slowly started to actually like Alpha and seeing her have her head chopped off was crazy. I loved Negan's smug little face afterwards. With the finale fight scene with Negan & Daryl vs Beta I was incredibly disappointed with how short it was BUT seeing as there wasn't much else to compare it too in this season it ended up standing out.

Overall this season was OK. In my eyes its a highly forgettable season and when you look back on The Walking Dead this won't be a season that will be a big conversation topic. Honestly it's a shame its gone downhill like this because I really do love The Walking Dead but this season was yet another snoozefest and I kept finding myself not wanting to watch certain episodes or losing my focus half way through.

This Season proves that The Walking Dead is in fact a Zombie of its former self and thankfully the end is near with Season 11 being its final. Part of me can really understand why certain actors have left. Its a shame that this season was an improvement compared to others.

Season 10 had a somewhat tumultous run due to the pandemic, but I finally got around finishing it. Season 9 was a return to form for the show after the mess of Season 8. So what of this one? I'll say it very much continues, if not even improve a little on its predecessor.

You could say the show is split in roughly two halves and I'll treat it that way to avoid spoilers. The first half is fantastic; dangerously addicting and with a great deal of complexity to make the show have not just a heavily satisfying, but also an emotional grip. The Whisperers are developed even further and honestly stand as one of the best antagonists the series had had to offer. As for our protagonists, the older crew keep being engaging and human. Even a character like Rosita has somehow become bearable, a feat I did not know was possible. One of my newer favourites is definitely Judith - her childlike optimism, combined with her grim upbrining, turn her into someone with great potential.Cailey Fleming is a fantastic actress and is able to stand her ground against all her older co-stars. Other oustanding performances include, but are not limited to: Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Danai Gurira, Seth Gilliam, Khary Payton, Ryan Hurst, Thora Birch, Samantha Morton, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Many of these actors have shown us their sheer skill in previous seasons, so there's not much new to say here. Just to reaffirm what is already known.

The second half of the season is much less consistent and has quite the episodic nature to it. This tends to divide TWD fans quite a lot, and I will come out to say that I actually enjoy it when the show takes on a slower pacing. It is something that hits the right spot for me, but I will acknowledge that others may see it as an example of the show at its worst. A few episodes might have breached decency, true, but I don't think it affected the season that badly overall.

Practical effects are great here as always. There were some rough CGI scenes, but I can shrug them off mostly. The action was great if you don't count the forced tension every time a walker comes up to a character, then the character loses their weapon and have to get it back to kill the walker. Yeah, I'm sure they are going to die a stupid death. Thankfully, that doesn't actually happen, the show did go down that road before though.

Really, a weakness of the season has nothing to do with it, but what occured previously. A great deal of the main cast is gone, and these newer survivors don't always make the cut. Magna is particularly horrible, I genuinely hate her character. She always brings some drama to the front that doesn't need to be there in the first place, and the big issue - nobody gives a damn. Compared to some of the tension Carol causes, where she gets in quite the conflict with some people (and herself), this is absolutely ridiculous. Connie has potential and has a very positive screen presence. Yumiko is someone I'm still neutral on. Altogether, this doesn't amount to the sheer variety we used to have in the character roster. It seems they might on the right track with someone like Princess however. She's one of my favourites right now.

Altogether, I really did enjoy this season quite a lot. It dipped a little around the end, but I still had a good time watching it. And the major arc that continues here is an absolutely riveting watch. I highly recommend fans continue with this season, it's a great time. I just hope the show can really tie things up moderately well with Season 11. That will be quite the task. I guess I might as well just wait and see.

Long season that possibly is one of the worst in the series. It is surprising that the first episode premiered in October 2019, and a year and a half later it has concluded. It's clear that TWD is AMC's flagship series, and the channel needs to continue to attract a loyal audience, even though the narration has actually been losing steam. The announcement of the final season is also a way to keep viewers aware of the story.

As in the series itself in general, the season should have ended much earlier. And possibly the Covid caused a new season to be replaced by the filming of several "extra" episodes. The showrunners have taken the opportunity to rehearse with the characters of Carol and Daryl in some of them. And the conclusion is clear: they are the most boring characters in the series, despite the announced spin-off.

It is significant that Negan is the protagonist of the last episode, surely the best of all, the one that contains interesting information, a suitable pace and, finally, walking deads. And everything seems to indicate that he will be one of the main protagonists of the last season, especially in his confrontation with Maggie.
