I'm not normally a TV watcher but I became absorbed in this show right from this first episode. I knew I would be faithfully waiting to watch each episode every week.
Don't dead, open inside (Well, I see Trakt changed the episode thumbnail mere days after I left this comment, causing this part to make less sense...)
Always wondered if I'd give this show a shot. I never had anything against it, but I also wasn't particularly enthused by the idea of it. I saw one random episode of it back in like 2013 at a friend's house because it was airing and my friend didn't want to miss it, but that was my only exposure to the show. As time passed, I became more and more wary of the show, because most of what I hear about it is how it has stopped being engaging a long while ago and it should've ended way before now (but it is still going to this day). And the fact that there's like 3 spin-off series is not appealing to me. But, I've been replaying the Telltale games recently, and felt like I wanted to finally give the show a shot.
Good start, I think. The coma story is incredibly improbable - the series of events that would have to occur to keep Rick alive through all of that... well, it's super unlikely. But the fish-out-of-water experience is a great way to begin the show. Although the opening scene (with the child walker) is cheap shock value.
Ahh the first case of a living creature that died in this series is that horse. R.I.P.
I have become a huge fan of this show. I will have to say that I gave Episode 1 a lower rating. I had stopped watching this show because of this episode. It seemed low brow because of the language and it does take time for some people to get use to the amount of gore and violence on the show.
I want to say to anyone that hasn't watched this series. Give it a chance, if the violence seems too much. It's worth it because the story is amazing.
The cast is also part of what makes this show really work well. They did a good job and it is very important to have a good cast for a show like this one. It keeps you interested.
How did Rick survive for a month without food or someone changing his IV? Wouldn't he have more of a beard after a month? Why didn't they check the hospital for survivors? Someone had time to barricade a bunch of walkers in, but they didn't take the time to check for people in a coma? In a hospital? And why is Shane kissing Rick's wife? I'm only watching this because the 14yo wants to, but I think I'm going to become irritated very quickly.
Pretty low fidelity and a little over-acted at times, but generally quite engaging and enjoyable.
No serious. I've never met a woman who knew how to turn off the light. Born thinking the switch only goes one way: on.
The first episode of The Walking Dead is great, probably one of best first episodes of any show ever.
Boy. This didn’t “age” well, did it. Starting off with sensationalism - killing a kid (zombie kid, but still, is that what they need to capture an audience?), then going straight into misogyny, both as a joke and in earnest. Dang. People say this show is good, but how much do I have to fast forward until it gets there?
Gripping introduction. Poor horse, though! :-(
Falacies of the Useless
✓Script (history) and Performances:[0.7]
First episode, you can't wait for them to explain everything, but it's still not known how this epidemic arose (or Pandemic, if you will find out later).
At least they gave the initial guidelines on how to kill a Walker and how to get contaminated.
The protagonists so far have done very well. The antagonists, not so much. Most of the extras have not yet incorporated the spirit of the thing and there are cases of very rough makeup.
✓Theme(Direction):[0.9]
The series' theme is how to survive in a Zombie Apocalypse.
The directors want to show the effort of a father who, despite many problems, wants to protect his family.
All still introduced little by little, in the skin of the character Rick Grimes.
✓Costume:[1.0]
✓Makeup:[0.5]
Rick's beard is shaved when he wakes up, which doesn't make sense.
Also, a lot of Walkers with bad makeup, although there are always some well made up. Still, I need to emphasize the quality of the scenes of sweaty and disheveled characters for not being able to take care of themselves at a time like this, many movies get lost in this.
✓Edition:[1.0]
The editing of scenes and the pace of the story are very good. Nothing to complain about. Starting with the little girl scene was cool and kind of a connection to the last 10 minutes of the episode.
✓Episode Objective:[0.7]
It would be better if you presented the origin of the epidemic.

I liked how we don’t find out our ricks wife and son our alive until they come running up to him when he gets to the camp, I think that scene with her kissing someone else also is gonna take away from the reunion.
One of the best episodes in a series ever! This is absolutely phenomenal. It was like a film!
Seems like a fun series to watch, just started it. Felt bad for the horse though! :p
First few seasons were addicting, but the show has become absolute garbage. Non climatic episodes that build to a dissapointinf season ending. The characters in the show have seemed to become dumber in their situation rather than becoming wiser from their life experiences.

it's a pleasure to watch first episodes once again!
