So far, Season 2 is a lot more interesting then Season 1 and it is more like the old Star Treks we all know and love.
I've been contemplating for a couple days now what to write about S2. Or if I should write anything at all. Because quite frankly I've written enough already over the course of this season.
So let me close by saying this: Ever since Nemesis and the ending of ENT I'm waiting for good Star Trek. And I still do. If the Abramsverse and/or DIS is the Star Trek of now than I am glad I still have the older shows.
As always, this is my personal opinion. If you like that stuff, fine by me.
As a fan of Stargate, Dark Matter and also the previous Star Trek I did find this enjoyable to watch the visuals are great, the acting is absolutely fine and the plot genuinely surprised me, although it is a bit cheesy (and thus contains a few holes like a good cheese just like Stargate). Calling it a "polished turd" like some have is going way too far and I'm eagerly awaiting for the next season. I found it tragicomic though when the mainframe got compromised with a SQL injection, man, it's far into the future and they still have issue with cybersecurity, gives me hope with my career   .
I loved season 2, great star trek TV. Bring Lorca back though. Demote Tilly to ensign.
Things I loved:
Ash Tyler. I liked him in the first season and I liked his arc here. Plus, bearded, long-haired Shazad Latif is extremely very attractive. Ooof fans self
Terran Georgiou. If there was a laugh to be had, usually she was the one providing it. Plus she was a total badarse.
Tilly. Loved her in the first season, continued to love her in the second season.
Things I didn't love:
Basically everything, and everyone, else. I don't mind Burnham as a protagonist, but everyone is so...moral and righteous. Especially Pike, to the point where he became almost laughably naive for an experienced starship captain.
Most of the ensemble cast was not given any character development, and yet the show tried to pull off these big emotional scenes with them that just ended up falling flat, because I didn't know them from a bar of soap.
The plot made zero sense.
Burnham and Spock kept having all these long, lingering looks that screamed pent up sexual tension, but then would call each other brother and sister and it was weird. Plus, the fact that they hadn't been talking for years despite Burnham reaching out and trying to apologise also made zero sense. That whole dynamic was off to me. Like, she storms off and calls him a freak when she's what, twelve? Are you telling me that they were then raised in the same house for years afterwards and the mother had no idea what was going on? She didn't notice her seven (?) year old not speaking to his adopted to sister? They never worked through it, and Spock remained angry with her right up until now? Wtf?
Season 1 had a rocky start, but I remember enjoying it quite a lot. This was just an incoherent mess. But, at least there was Bearded Ash Tyler. Did I mention how attractive he was?
the "red angel" plot/story was just.... rubish :(
the acting was great and I am really sorry this season was not made at the same standard as the first season
Much better than the first season, but still a bit rough in the middle section. I did like this season a lot though.
Just another space soap opera.

This show is a highly polished turd. The acting is horrible and the storyline makes no sense. And they're doing a lot of unneeded retconning and ruining Star Trek.
