When does your personal summer end? What happens when the summer of childhood inevitably must come crashing down? That's the main central question that "Act Your Age", one of the show's most ambitious episodes, asks. "Act Your Age"'s answer is simple - make the most of it, because you never know when that time is gonna be slipping away. As both plots, with Phineas desperately trying to confess to Isabella before she leaves for college, and Doofenshmirtz trying to enact something on himself to spice up his life, showcase this question, it's impressive how the show never feels cynical about the whole thing despite the air of melancholy that's throughout the episode. It's one of the more adult episodes of the show, seemingly aimed at the ones who grew up with the show and less the kids who just started watching.
Of course, it's also a feast for long time fans to see where our favourite characters end up. Phineas and Isabella are obviously the highlight, of course, and the final 5 minutes are some of the most satisfying moments in the show, finally giving four seasons of teasing, development, and shipping their due in a glorious final moment that will make their fans cheer. Their song beforehand, "What Might Have Been", is particularly excellent and a show highlight. Act Your Age isn't the best episode of the show, but it's certainly one of the best of the season and one of the best of the series - a glorious coda to a fantastic show.
