Interesting, the relationship with Alice.
I stop at the end of S01. I’m sorry but it’s just non sense. Everything is absolutely ridiculous and un realistic.
Alice is suspected of murder but nobody cares
Luther move from enemy to bestie with Alice (why?!)
Seems to be 2 cops in London… they just has a slaughter end of S01 but nobody cares and we send Luther’s colleagues to arrest him because… meh!
I stop it there, the OST is too discreet, the actor act is ok but doesn’t save anything.
I loved this series. Preferred earlier seasons though.
I had rather high expectations for this but I struggled through it from ep.1. Gave up after ep.5 in season one. The scripts all have logic errors where you simply have to turn a blind eye for it to work. This is most of the time painted over by slow-mo shots and very emotional music that covers those errors.
The whole thing with Alice is completely rubbish. In the first episode Luther wants nothing but to arrest her for the murder of her parents. Not long after that they enter a weird kind of friendship, he even asks her for help despite telling her over and over again to leave him alone. And, of course, Alice all of a sudden falls in love with him. Pretty far fetched.
I get it, it's all supposed to be entertainment. But that is just it, I wasn't entertained.
How on earth could they kill off Alice?
I find this inexcusable; the relationship between Luther and Morgan is one if the most interesting and compelling aspects of the show (series? I never know with these Brits.).
If the reason for her leaving Luther is her role in The Affair, this is a tragic exchange. The word "shaft" comes to mind.
Definitely, one of the best crime thrillers ever conceived and written! You will be seduced by it's clever, dark writing and the spectacular performances of Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson (with an excellent supporting cast - too many stand-out performances to name). This is Neil Cross' masterpiece, from creation to seasonal arcs to individual stories to episodic writing, each piece building toward the series' inevitable reckoning, teasing us on with the end of season's tag line, "Now what?" while the soulful plea "I'm just a soul who's intentions are good..." plays, while credits roll. A beautiful study of genius, license vs. boundaries, and the ultimate consequences of each. I give this series a 10 (brilliant) out of 10. [Crime Thriller]
This grimdark crime drama really gets to me. Every second we see the unstable John Luther, the uncertain Alice Morgan, or one of the many unpleasant antagonists It's incredibly suspenseful and almost spellbinding.
Carried by Idris Elba, the beautiful cinematography, and of course Neil Cross' genius writing; Luther is an abrasive look into the fine line between right and wrong.
The A..between the L and the R. aim low
Fantastic show with a few dips. The opening has Luther basically as a rage-monster. But that's not what Luther is. It's how Luther appears. Looking back it feels out of character for him.
Most seasons of this show could be summed up as "Cop has to deal with a crisis at work while someone else is giving him a personal crisis at the same time and neither of them can wait". Most of Luther is pile-on. There's a killer AND someone's trying to blackmail Luther. Things happen and next season he has a reputation for being bent when he's anything but.
Idris even from the jump has a strong screen presence and a slightly awkward posture. One that becomes iconic. I wouldn't be surprised if people walk like Luther. Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson) is a criminal I didn't expect to stick around. I thought she was almost interesting in her initial appearance but when Luther took the exceptionally interesting choice of befriending her to keep her under control that was wild. Their relationship isn't like a lot of the other cop-psycho relationships. She's not used as a source or a way to tap into the criminal element. Luther actually does a pretty good job of that himself. Idris gives you a Luther that's always tired, always compelling to do right even when it looks wrong, and never too concerned with what other people think of him. It's as admirable as it is sad how many people close to him end up dead. All over silly nonsense. Pettiness. The casualness with which a Luther-friend will get shot for basically no reason somehow never stops hurting. You feel for Luther having to add yet another tally to his board that he didn't want and wasn't able to stop and yet somehow will be blamed for.
The seasons are short but impactful. I'd want them to be longer but the show would have to restructure itself for that. Still it'd be nice to give Luther some breathing room for a minute.
Why can't I add this to my history? "No aired episodes found"...
The show is ok but none of the detectives carry gun?? Lol
I really like the earlier seasons of Luther but it gradually fell off.
Not my cup of tea normally. The cases Luther (Idris Elba) works on aren't really compelling and his relationship with his ex-wife is super problematic. But his relationship with a character named Alice (Ruth Wilson) is electric. It's sexy, funny, and scary all at the same time, and unlike anything I've seen on TV. I wish the whole show were about them.
What I like about this show, is that it shows the police failing, shows people make hard decisions, say "no" to a "help me", setting boundaries.
The conclusions Luther arrives at in his cases have a tendency to be a bit more conveniently magicked to life rather than holding up in actuality, which I find a little lacking.
I watched this via Foxtel
Trailer for the new episodes airing later this month.... https://arstechnica.com/?p=1420075
Interesting person spotted right at the end.......
the way Idris Elba portrays the role of Luther I'm just mesmerized that how damn good actor he is. don't miss it, it doesn't have many episodes per seasons but they're so good you'll be addicted.
Im on S01-E03.mp4 & so far Im lovin the gory, yet graphic murder scenes that actually make u feel at times, Humm what would I do in that position!! It's a who done it kinda show with a detective (Idris Elba) who is a bad tempered yet remarkably intelligent. This show was recommended by a friend, as I was so bored of the same csi, criminal minds re-runs. So far so good!!
Idris Elba plays this role as a total perfectionist.
Really enjoyed the short styled seasons with only a few episodes each. Great entertainment.

Oh man, this is such amazing news.
A really great show and overall series. Great acting, characters, writing, etc .....
Idris Elba is a boss!!
Great show! Hopefully they will go ahead with the plans of making a prequel film, although I would prefer a film based after Season 3 with Alice Morgan. I would be happy either way. What I do want is an #AliceMorganSpinoff . If you agree, lets tell @BBCOne that we want an #AliceMorganSpinoff.
Season 3 was a big step backward
Just watched 1st episode of new series on BBC. Brilliant.
This is a great series. I hope they keep making more eps. Idris Elba is fantastic as Luther.
2 seasons and only 10 episodes ? Great serie but some more episodes per season would be nice.
Can't wait for the third series. I'm having Alice Morgan withdrawals.
I am watching the first season of BBC TV series Luther . So far so good.
Great show! Only seen episode one now, with a female Hannibal Lecter-like killer. Recommend.
I echo that....love the grittiness of this show. Idris is fantastic.
Awesome show!

I disagree about the series going nowhere because it is a crime drama. I believe it develops slowly through the episodes and, by the end of the season, you'll realize its plot has gone very far. Each season ends in a very turbulent place and the next one starts with the emotional consequences of the previous. Character growth is brilliant.
