So intense! The fight sequence was probably my favorite part, and that's rare coming from me! And I must also give kudos to the animators on Serafina's flight/movement because it's really something else
That scene where Lyra and Mrs Coulter are yelling to each other? Mood
Definitely the best episode yet. Lots of emotionally charged scenes. Not so sure about some of the parts with the kids somehow constantly managing to outwit the adults though.
The chapter has had simply ridiculous parts. The script is a disaster...
No one seems to be good at hanging on to Lyra for long, haha
I'm giving this a nine for the emotionally satisfying moments strung throughout -- it's a veritable dopamine fest, on par with any episode of Grey's Anatomy or Naruto!
Compare this with the first episode of Raised By Wolves, which out-spends it, out-classes it and generally has better production values...this, hands down, beats it on emotional content.
Diggin' it, even a second go 'round!
For me, this was a strong episode, with lots going on.
I was worried when they brought the children out, that they were leaving the daemons behind. But when they were walking in the woods I saw that the daemons were in cages, and someone commented “they can’t even talk now”. My hope is that when they bring the daemons back in in proximity to each of their partners, that they will reconnect.
Side note; Lyra initiated the destruction of the separation equipment by pulling a lever. When the building started to quake and start to fall apart, she could have simply push the lever back into its original position. It would’ve been logical, but she didn’t do it.
Lyra is taken through the Call of Duty winter base into The Silo's cafeteria, complete with the monitor showing a fake outside world, except this looks more like a poster instead
They found the daemon cages that separate them from their hosts, and soul-separation here has a slightly different effect on these kids than it had on (Supernatural spoilers) Sam Winchester
"Experimental theology", now that is an oxymoron if there ever was one in this show, said right before a Spock quote of sacrificing the few for the many, too
This daemon separator device looks like a theme park ride, you know the UFO that spins around, but this one has guillotine, and when Lyra broke it by somehow getting lucky pressing random buttons, this relatively mechanically simple looking machine that only has some Nikola Tesla looking coils, two cages, and a giant knife somehow started imploding like a black hole. I don't get the physics of this universe
This 10-12 somewhat year old kid suddenly knows how to improvise a motivating speech to a bunch of catatonic vegetables, and manages to convince them to follow him. Riiight.
I see this women knock down a ventilation shaft cover, then jump down and squat on a desk with absolutely no ventilation shaft cover anywhere to be found. Well this world is magical, after all. I mean, even The Flash/Auror/Death Eater/Dementor witch person saved everyone, so lol
Since when can a hot-air balloon carry the weight of an entire armoured bear?
I wonder if they can't reattach the daemons to the kids or something
And of course that's where they put the cliffhanger
Script shortcuts fiesta.
I would have noted this 4/10 if it's not for some parts with Ruth Wilson.
What an exciting episode
The only thing I didn’t get is how come the witch’s daemon wasn’t there when they got slaughtered in the end of the previous episode, and how come some got slaughtered, Lyra got taken, but they didn’t kill all of them and neither were the losses and her being taken discussed by the Gypters. Since last episode I had assumed the entire camp had died, but everyone’s just frolicking in this one. Maybe I missed that Lyra was in a different camp for some reason, but neither the witch’s daemon nor our lovely bear friend warned them or helped.
I definitely must have missed something.
I love how this show illustrates the intricate and fucked up the world of grown ups is, with all its complications and falsehoods, while the world of children is so idealistic and pure.
Mrs Coulter probably really means well. But she’s so disconnected from her own daemon and struggling with her own inner issues (…”demons”), she couldn’t be further removed from her purer origins.
Love the blind siding of Mr Scoresby. He’s really not the type to wanting to have any kind of responsibility. Those types sometimes make the best leaders. The ones that don’t want to be. I will be awaiting some beautiful character growth here.
Another creepy bit here and what an ending once again.
Looking forward to the two worlds meeting eventually.
i didnt think this series would make me cry so much

Every episode with Ruth Wilson just affirms what a perfect casting choice she was.
Lots covered this episode with some powerful moments. When Mrs Coulter realised it was Lyra in the machine. Just wow.
