After finishing the season all of those gay orgies and sex scenes actually make sense. This whole season is about AIDS, 1981 is where the first case is reported. I think Big Daddy resembles the disease for the most part and the hatred towards the community during the time.
But still I rate it low, it's nowhere near the Murder House or earlier seasons quality wise.
The monster is AIDS! No, really...
Seriously, this was so stupid. It's so annoying when people categorize something like this as horror. "tHe tRUe hOrRoR iS rEaL LiFe" :face_vomiting:
Quite a few homophobic morons in the comments I see.
Worst season of AHS by far.
A disgusting, repulsive sight. Tolerance ends here, that doesn't belong on television.
The last few seasons of AHS have been a letdown, but this was just too much. There was no horror element at all after the first few episodes, just a long drawn out melodrama about aids. Hopefully this marks the end of this series that used to be really creative.
Terrible season. Don't waste your time. Too much gay stuff and terrible writing.
So far, it's decent. 10th was a complete disaster so it's nice to see something not equally terrible.
Spoiler alert Sandra Bernhard is Big Daddy. The resemblance is just striking.
Been watching American horror story from the beginning and this has to be, hands down, the worst series yet. I admit other series have their faults, but they have enough to keep you gripped. This series offers nothing. Weak writing, weak story telling and weak casting. Everyone involved with this series should be ashamed with the utter garbage they have produced. Hope the next series goes a long way to appease the fans and show that this franchise still has something to offer.
I really liked this season, and the anthopomorphosing aspect of it too, as well as some very twisted benevolent serial killers?
Some more conspiracy theories too - Was the start of AIDS really so innocent or a deliberate plot...?
The worst script ever, no story .bad everything, i did think Will be a sequel to cruising 1980, but noooo, the stupidity of woke media ..
I delayed watching last 2 season (10 and 11) because horror part is getting messy and 10-11 is no different. Both seasons have solid ideas not 1 but 2, and they shit the bed trying to mix them.
At least 11 got rid of recurring actors( that brings nothing to show acting wise and brought back more of Denis O'Hare and Zachary Quinto which is at least delight to watch.
The has been the best season behind Asylum, showing actual true real life horror as opposed to the usual nonsense. A few seasons like Hotel, Coven, Apocalypse I gave up halfway through but this I binge watched due to the immense storyline. It just goes to show that you don’t need supernatural forces, monsters or aliens. I can understand why some believe it to be inferior to prior stories, but forget past seasons and just enjoy it for what it is, a good portrayal of a true horror story.
ready for another mess tbh
nothing will compare to seasons 1-5 of ahs
Can no one appreciate the dramatic telling of the AIDS crisis of the 80s? It was called the Gay Plague. An already hated and marginalised community were hit with a disease which plucked them off in droves, and for years it went unseen. The scenes with doctors is masks was UNDERPLAYED! In the real story, hospital staff were in hazmat suits. Where is the empathy?! Where is the basic f-/:;(g knowledge of recent history?!
Worst season ever..watched the first 4 episodes.....AHS??? You can do much better.
Drama but make it gay
Mystery but make it gay
Death but make it gay
Loving all the seasons and the increasingly lgbtqia+ people that are in it
Also, for those living under a rock, Ryan Murphy IS gay. Even without looking that up you can guess from some of his other productions. This blindness is making me want to scream (and not in a tingly AHS sort of way)!!
I worried to start another season of AHS as always they seem interesting then quickly turn to mush, but this season seems unique (within AHS standards), less crazy things, and quite hot actually! Im at ep 5 so far so we see, but nice for a change. My fav seasons were 2nd, Roanoke, and this one it seems.
I am BEYOND excited—just moments ago I discovered that I can watch season 11 on Apple TV. Oh wait… I have to pay for it? And I already pay the AppleTV monthly subscription. And STAN, Disney+, Netflix, BINGE, YouTube Premium, Paramount+ AND Amazon Prime Video. I really would appreciate an Australian company taking up the gap in the market for a comprehensive steaming service (and Foxtel isn’t it, my parents have it and besides costing an arm and a leg it’s made up of mostly D grade channels with repeats of 80s and 90s shows, The Simpsons, and an extraordinarily vast collection of documentaries about Hitler and the Nazis.
Not your typically AHS. Not really scary or horror but imagine living that time and not knowing what's happening with murders no one investigating and unknown virus.
although, I believe it would had been better if the leather was not physical, able to hit to hit someone kind of physical
meh, i prefer the first part of the season to the second one. The last three episodes became quite slow and dramatic for my taste.
Barely got thru this. Company walked away bored during it. Most of my favourites from the typical ensemble AHS cast are gone and that was a big factor that always had me coming back.
This is probably my jumping off point for this show now. Was one of my favourite shows for the longest time but that over.
I never thought we would find a worse season than Cult, but here we are lol, Truly a waste of Zachary Quinto's return, and i say this as a gay person ...hhmmm this was a chore to watch in the end WOW
[Disney+] To be part of the "American Horror Story" franchise, this season set in 1981 Lower Manhattan is an almost experimental approach to the AIDS pandemic through a look that doesn't avoid the less kind side of the night inside of the gay community, as opposed to the vibrancy of "Pose." Impregnated with seedy bars, cruising, dark rooms and sugar daddies, it is a provocative proposal that finds its balance in the numerous cinematographic references of the eighties, from "Cruising" (William Friedkin, 1980) to "Dressed or kill" (Brian De Palma, 1980), Derek Jarman, Robert Mapplethorpe, Andy Warhol, Gregg Araki... And it has two final episodes that turn confrontation with the inevitability of death into dark poetry once the murderous pandemic sets its sights on its victims.
Personally I enjoyed this season. I thought the the analogies of the 80’s AIDS epidemic were brilliantly written. If they were trying to make people understand the fear surrounding this issue they did. I grew up in the 80’s and remember it being main news for a long time but despite that I didn’t really understand just how frightening it must have all been.
I won’t go in to more detail about this season as I don’t want to give anything away but suffice to say I do think they hit the nail on the head.
First off, it’s good this story (or a story like this for that matter) is being told. However, to me it feels too far off from what an ‘American Horror Story’ should be about. Instead of making this a season, I would have rather seen it labeled as a side story or a spin off I suppose, or as a show with no ties to this series. Because it definitely deserves it’s spotlight, but show it for what it is as people are now watching it with the wrong expectations.
I have rarely been so disappointed. After the first episode, I thought maybe all the sick gay shit was just a side arm of the story. But no. Everything is gay here. "Horror" describes this season of AHS quite well, however, it's not one I will watch willingly.
thats sure the worst season of ahs
As always, AHS does not fail in making a statement. But is it enough? Some episodes are strong and some are too soapy. That's the main issue here. It's glorious that Ryan Murphy is finally exploring AIDS and police negligence towards the LGBTQ community in the 80's through the AHS franchise, but it falls a little flat after his great work in POSE and Dahmer, respectively. Our standards are very high at this point, and the season is not the greatest. Also, as much as I freaking love it, I wish that Ryan would get out of his 80s vortex, for some refreshment.
In other seasons, I hated that the most terrifying characters, such as Twisty and The Addiction Demon, said good-bye too early. I love it that Big Daddy stayed strong and intriguing throughout most of the season. Also, the atmosphere and script were concise, even though they were not perfect. Points for consistency, which is one of the weakest aspects of AHS in general.
I think that this season did a lot greater than the previous one and it's a big big big gay service. It seems that some of the critics about other seasons were considered in the making of the new one. So, for me, it's kind of a win. Still, they managed to keep something from Season 10: the ending is so bad it hurts. At least, the last episode is better than episode 9.
Not too bad but the final episode descended into high-school theatre-level production and writing, as the subtext was made explicit in a series of odd montages. A more subtle touch may have made this a stronger ending. Joe Mantello carried it, however. He and Russel Tovey gave great performances throughout.

Worst season ever. At least is quite short
