I think my old review said it all...so here it is.
How many times can you shoot the same movie without things getting stale?!?
Well...usually...not many...especially when you have done it so many times as they have done it with the Underworld franchise...AND...with a smaller and smaller budget to boot.
Even Kate Beckinsale in her incredibly tight spandex can't save this one. Don't get me wrong...she's as hot as ever, but seem dreadfully bored about the whole thing. Though...she's actually one of the few redeeming factors. One of the other is that the effects are quite good in places...except for the usual bad CGI of course.
Anyway...I'm not going to list everything that is wrong with this one because that would take a very long time, BUT...especially ONE thing bothered me throughout the entire movie. The lighting sucked all the way through. Most of the time you couldn't even see what was going on let alone any details. I know the movie is supposed to have a gothic feel...but talk about taking it too far.
Watch Underworld: Blood Wars only if you are a fan of the franchise, or have a masochistic streak.
I'm pretty sure this will be the last time I'll ever see this movie. There are too many GOOD movies out there I haven't seen yet to bother with this one again.
8/10
The strongest no-nonsense installment of the hole franchise.
Great pacing, awesome action with good clean vfx.
Got rid of that stupid human involvement nonsense
(best decision).
and nearly got rid of the love Michael Garbage.
I love this entry it's my favourite one and it definitely is an ass kicker.
I love the main bad guy in this, and woman.
Love the white hair Vamps and Selene when she gets her white hair/upgrade.
David is as awesome as ever. The action is awesome and full on in this and with this being the final chapter it was a great way to bring it all to a close.
Yes the producer and director left it open ended for a possible 6th but Kate herself as stated she is done reprising her role.
She's 50 now with a kid and does not want to wear that pvc, leather corset anymore especially now she is a mother.
So with Kate being the Underworld franchise and with her walking away from it, this brings an end to the franchise and the never ending war, (well at least for us).
Was it a great saga no,
Was it a good one yes
Has it aged well no.
The Resident Evil franchise blows this franchise clean out of the water, and I can watch the RE franchise over and over and over again.
The UW hm not so much as they have aged terribly and are out-dated, but it was a good ride down memory lane with my
Blu Ray boxset
Extended unrated cuts
of them.
I will say Selene has been very kind on the eyes and she has definitely held my attention throughout the franchise, she rocked that outfit.
Hella Yeah.

I think it is fairly safe to say that if you did not like any of the other installments in the Underworld movie series then you will not like this one.
As usual with these kind of movies it is one where you preferably switch of most higher brain functions before watching and just sit down and enjoy the show. The movie is certainly not a masterpiece when it comes to story and script. Actually the script is, at times, fairly crappy. There are for example a sequence were the Lycans are attacking the stronghold castle of the Vampires and the script writer taught it was a good idea to just let them drive straight into the center of the castle and breach the door before they got challenged. What the f…?
On the whole the script is a typical Hollywood B-movie concoction that holds little merit. If this would have been the first movie in the series I think there would never had been a series made at all.
So why did I like it then? Well, even if the script is nothing to write home about it is not a total disaster and it serves as an excuse to provide 90 minutes of good entertaining Vampire vs Lycan action. Plain and simple.
Of course Kate Beckinsale is a good reason for liking the movie as well. Her moving around in her intimidating (and good looking) skintight clothes slashing up Lycans in various creative ways makes up for some of the not so stellar script. I probably pissed of a bunch of feminists there but it is not really like a care about that.
The action and the CGI is reasonably well done and another reason to like the movie. Actually, come to think about it, Kate Beckinsale, the action and the CGI is pretty much the reasons I liked this movie.
They could have selected a more charismatic bad guy though. For most of the movie I felt Marcus was bland and even a bit dull.
It is not the best movie in the series but it does not exactly shame the series either. For me, I have to rate my enjoyment of it as above average compared to movies in general.
