I was supposed to see this film around the beginning of the year, but yeah now I finally watched The Place Beyond the Pines. I don't know why I delayed it so much because I loved it! It's interesting that after all of this time I didn't fall in the temptation of reading any reviews about it because I wanted to be surprised by it.

Good or bad decisions in life always have consequences and I think that the story of this whole film after all is about Karma. Our actions will always have a reaction back in the future. All of the characters of the story had difficult lives and in some way in their present lives all are dealing with issues from the past, suffering the consequences of precipitated choices.

The storytelling is great, through the three acts of the story and we connect with the multiple characters one by one in a perfect pace.

This film is beautiful to watch. The cinematography is great, there are beautifully amazing shots throughout the film but the fantastic opening shot is particularly my favorite.

The performances were stunning from all of the cast, very intense and emotional. This is the perfect type of Ryan Gosling's character, he is always amazing portraying this kind of complicated and self-reserved men. Bradley Cooper is surprising me more and more I hope to continue to see him do characters like his in the film. Eva Mendes was equally good, very strong performance.

I should have watched this a lot sooner but I'm glad that I finally did and I couldn't end my year in film in a better way!

I thought this movie was great. It was basically 3 little mini movies in one. I love the idea of interweaving stories and all of that and this movie kinda did that except in different acts. The leads in this movie were fantastic. Gosling and Cooper had a great presence on screen and I believed their characters and acting. There were some very cool camera shots in this that I absolutely loved. I especially loved Dane DeHaan (from Chronicle). He really played his character well and I can't wait to see what else he makes in the future. I would definitely give this a watch. It's got a love story, action, thrills, suspense, crime, everything all in one movie. It could have been just a LITTLE shorter but the movie wraps up nicely and was a great watch. Now I want to watch director Derek Cianfrance's "Blue Valentine".

That's the kind of movie I like. This depressed mood is just beautiful.

Surprisingly good! Really enjoyed it and its one of the few movies I know that really profits from its over-long runtime without having a feeling about it that it is dragged out unnecessarily.
What this movie showed and reminded me is the fact that an intact family is of utmost importance for the growing up of a child, for his/her development. Its not that important whether or not the parents are rich, but if they fail to provide a healthy invironment, chances are good that the child is going to suffer horribly from it!

Nice movie, very good image and sound. Very good script.

It's like a trilogy, 3 stories-in-one but all linked together. Great acting, great overall story and it has the kid from Chronicle which was a nice surprise.

Loved it! I also thought the length of the movie was perfect!

Derek Cianfrance is a straight SAVAGE

wow i really loved this

Way too Slow!!!

This wasn't at all what I was expecting, but it was a tremendous film w/ a tremendous cast. Neither the story nor the story outlay were unique, but they were well-done. This was a strong drama.

Just something about this movie… amazing

This felt like a contemporary Shakespearian play, the separated three act structure and the heavy cyclical violence/sins of our father angle felt very theatre inspired to me. A very drab, moody, gritty feature that definitely benefitted from me going in blind. Gosling in this is the modern Brad Pitt in Fight Club.

The film showcases well the societal issues of toxic masculinity, narcissism, emotional unavailability and police corruption.
Good performances from Eva Mendes and Rose Byrne, although I would've preferred they had more screentime and material to work with. Most of the characters were superficial, despite the overlong runtime.
I feel that the 3 stories should've had been told in reverse order. That way the audience could relate more with Jason trying to find out who his father was, and expectations would've been subverted as we would go from a romanticized version of Luke to a tragically victimized version and then to the real sociopathic Luke, with the film ending with his death.

Ryan Gosling’s character is beautifully tragic. So well played. The first half of the movie is stellar. However, the first few scenes after the midpoint, when the story pivots, I was really doubting that it’d deliver but by the end the story turned the corner and really delivered. Dane Dehaan and Emory Cohen really brought their characters to life and made the story in the end. Well worth the time.

never have i ever seen such a beauty before

This is really three stories that connect via the characters, but also somewhat thematically. The first half of the film was very engaging and was building a picture of a broken man wanting to do right, failing, and using crime as his outlet. The latter half of the film hinges on something that takes place mid-film, as well as a chance meeting that is too serendipitous for me to get on board with it. This latter half sputterd out and meandered to the end leaving a lukewarm feeling around why you should care about some of the key characters. I didn't dislike it as a whole, as there are parts to like, but it's very uneven and didn't need 140 minutes to tell it's story.

Absolutely love the way this story was told, even if everything that happened after Luke's death was quite predictable. Not enough Ryan Gosling, way too much Bradley Cooper. But that first act is beautiful, and so is the last.

8/10

Not really worth watching. First part was good, second was average, third was poor.

Good but long winded. I wouldn't watch it again.

A Place Beyond the Pines or the Place Beyond the Pines, whatever you want to call it, I'd say a lot better than Blue Valentine.
It's a lot more ambitious, it has a much larger scale than Blue Valentine. This movie makes me want to see more movies from this director in the future and I'm hoping that his scale continues to grow.

I can see him making something and it turning out to be very successful, at some point in the future. I can see him making a unanimously good decision for a unanimously liked movie, a crowd pleaser per-se but not something that's the Avengers.

The Place Beyond the Pines was very good. Seven out of ten, I would have given it an eight if the whole movie was like the first third of the movie. It was definitively better than the rest of the movie and I love that it started out on such a high note. I was kinda hoping that it would finish with the same sort of high note.

It kinda had a stupid ending, near the end.
Otherwise it was pretty enjoyable.

A film that linked three stories together extremely well, constantly leaving you to predict what happens, because I thought I had it all planned what was going to happen and it went off in a completely different direction. Very good.

Too slow, annoying damn slow

Promoting this as a Ryan Gosling movie is akin to promoting Scream as a Drew Barrymore movie.

should have been 3 movies ...would have made a cool trilogy. The 15 year jump was too sudden

Really enjoy the first half, however the second half held onto the plot with a string. I had very little attachment to the characters.

To my suprise I actually enjoyed this one alot. In the beginning I thought myself "oh Ryan, were doing this again" (at least he is typecast as the protagonist) but to my suprise he didn't have that much screentime. I felt that it came together pretty well and touched on various themes with solid cinematography and a great soundtrack (Mike Patton and some akward Salem).

Ok, it's a fairly nice movie. But it's way too long. The movie tells 3 story lines but already before the end of the first one I actually wanted to leave the cinema, something I never thought of earlier.
