I actually got to see this one in theaters! I really enjoy the Sequel Trilogy, and this one is no exception. 9/10 :star:
just got done watching this one and was its actually a good movie
The atmosphere seeing this in the IMAX was so fkin amazing, I love Rey I love her
I enjoyed this movie but it doesn't feel like something new. Kylo Ren is a great character and overall the acting is great.
In theaters 1x, read the novelization… I had such hope and rated it great. I’m finally rewatching at home and the script problems started showing. Ugh. Still better than its sequels and better than the prequels, but I’m taking my enthusiastic Trakt “great” down to “good”.
TFA amounts to little more than a rehash/reboot of some elements of ANH and most elements of ROTJ, but not actually as good as either.
Good points: seeing Han and Chewie, Leia, C3PO and R2D2 (to a lesser extent) and Luke Skywalker (briefly) again, the new Storm Troopers, BB-8, thrown in more for the robo-cutesy appeal, Kylo Ren. (excellently brought to life by Adam Driver) Kylo being Han and Leia's son Ben, and him having gone all "Order 66" on everyone at Luke's new Jedi Academy, the attempt by Solo to bring his son back to the light side and common sense, but Kylo/Ben weakly giving in to his hatred (and/or being too weak to resist Snoke's influence) by slaying his own father. But that's about it.
Bad points: everything else. Finn is the most annoying, unlikeable, gung-ho, American-GI-Joe stereotype ever. Bloody hell, even Han Solo thought so; as he had to tell Finn to reign it in and get a grip, at one point. Yes, Han was initially a bit arrogant and condescending to Leia, and full of macho charisma in the first half of ANH, but that was far less in-your-face and irritating than Finn's childishly over-the-top melodramatic outbursts. The First Order's Storm Trooper training would almost certainly have crushed that stupid macho crap, and any significant individuality, out of him, to the point where he wouldn't have cared one iota about another random storm trooper that was injured. At no point in any SW production prior to this has a stormtrooper ever stopped to rescue or assist a severely inured colleague, the hapless injured party has either been killed to protect security of their commanders, been abandoned and left to die, or else been killed by the enemy. They are literally cannon fodder in just the same way that the clones were - infinite troops on the ground to be the front line in assaults, but expendable and not individually important (apart from, latterly, a handful in CW/Rebels/BB animated shows), as the entire SW universe seems to hold a very blasé attitude to death, except when it comes to protagonists. Therefore, Finn's crisis of conscience and horror at the death of his fellow trooper, and the execution of the villagers, makes little sense. This can perhaps be explained away as a failure of his training, a "bug in the system" or something, but that training has never failed for the other few billion storm troopers. Ok, he may be one in a (few) billion, but if his demeanour had been more akin to, say, Crosshair from SW:BB (I know that BB came after TFA, but was just using him for comparative purposes), that would have made him far more believable, and likeable. As it was, he was just a dumb grunt trying to get the girl with his stupid, chauvinistic, macho antics. His entire existence in TFA just feels like an attempt to provide political correctness amongst the protagonists - arguably the same as Rey. Oh, and also to provide a totally needless love story - an element already provided by Han and Leia, but American film producers seem completely unable to have action heroes in films that don't have a romantic interest in one of the other protagonists. However, at least Rey was a likeable character. It's just a shame that she was effectively the rebooted young Luke, and her story was so poorly written. A little more understanding of her background, how she came to be living on her own on a desert planet working as a slave to some self-important alien, how she had gained any flying experience or technical expertise in starship maintenance when seemingly all she had to play with were the scavenged-to-death bones of Empirical war machinery, would have been good. It was a little too convenient that she had all the necessary skills, in just the right place, at just the right moment, in order that she could help to save the galaxy. And then, with one touch of the mysteriously-recovered blue "Skywalker" lightsaber (thought to have been lost along with Luke's severed hand in ESB) - , to be "Force-awakened" enough to master the "Jedi mind trick" and wield a lightsaber well enough to defeat a highly-trained-by-Luke-Skywalker, Force-strong opponent, never mind whether or not he was already injured. Talking of which, Ren should have been able to easily defeat a bloody storm trooper with no Force powers and no lightsaber training, without even having to pause for breath or because of his injury. Finally, how is it that, in ANH, the only reason that Luke was able to fly through the Death Star and strike the killing blow was because he used the Force to guide him. He turned off his targeting computer. Poe Dameron, however, successfully makes a flight of equal difficulty through just as narrow a course simply by being a fearless maverick with excellent piloting skills. As well as belittling Luke's achievement in ANH, this also seems far too convenient. But without directly ripping off ANH by having Rey making that flight, what else could they do, as they do, having backed themselves into the same design-flaw failure plot hole as ANH and ROTJ?
To summarise, TFA relies on plot-conveniences and ideas lifted from previous SW films at every turn, without really coming up with anything new at all. It's an ok Star Wars film, and has the advantage of being technically superior to previous productions (as you'd expect), but it could have been so much better.
A triumphant return to form for the franchise, capturing the spirit and excitement of the original trilogy while introducing a new cast of characters and a fresh storyline. The movie strikes a perfect balance between nostalgia and innovation, paying homage to the classic elements of the Star Wars universe while also bringing new ideas and perspectives. The acting performances are outstanding and the movie's visuals are awesome. While some may criticize the movie for relying too heavily on the formula of the original trilogy, there is no denying that it is a great addition to the Star Wars saga.
It's like your younger cousin - it tries to be cool, but you can see it's only copying everything you do but in a lame way
This was just too rushed. Characters with boring names and that have all over the place personalities that constantly seem stressed. Kylo is an absolute dork of a character
Lol just like the last movie everything that goes wrong is finns fault
Finn is a terrible person if you think about it lol, everything that goes wrong or bad in this movie is because of his arrogance.
(yes I know is Disney so they’re not that smart lol) also, you’d think everyone on the planet would start dying of radiation poisoning pretty quickly from the planet sucking up energy from the sun and then shooting the same energy

After watching "The Force Awakens" a second time, I still have the same opinion. It's a very good "Star Wars" movie with a strong cast and great special effects. The weakest part of the movie is the Starkiller Base.
The "Star Wars" franchise is loaded with faux science and implausibilities, but I just can't get past how dumb the Starkiller idea is.
I've only seen "The Force Awakens " once. It was good, but I'm fighting off the urge to see it again because I don't understand why a Star Wars movie deserves a second chance over other movies that I've seen once, liked as much if not more, and then not re-watched.
Yes, I too saw Star Wars 4, 5 & 6 during their original runs in theaters (I'm that old), so nostalgia runs deep with me. However, I don't think "The Force Awakens" deserves an additional trip to the movies any more than say "Mad Max Fury Road", "Edge of Tomorrow", or "Nightcrawler" did. These were all movies I rated higher than the new Star Wars, and I waited until they came out on BluRay before a second watch.
I liked a lot of things about "The Force Awakens". Han and Chewy, the new characters Rey and Finn, Poe Dameron's X-wing dogfight and tie-fighter escape scenes, etc. It's a lot of fun and likely has an impact even greater on younger Star Wars newbies (my son has seen it five times and says it's now his favorite movie). The first two Star Wars movies score 5 of 5 with me but honestly, much of that is love of the characters over time and not because those first two movies were the greatest films ever.
I'll get around to "The Force Awakens" again when it's released on home video, but for now, I'll see something else that's sitting in my watchlist.
Again, the destiny of the Galaxy, where more than six million forms of communication exist, is tie to the same family...... That's why Rogue one was refreshing.
And it's silly the planets are enormous but we see only 1 village...
I was bored watching this honestly.
I like it a lot, even though it inspired so many studios to make greatest hits compilation films, most of which aren’t that good.
The reason why I’m letting it pass here is because it feels fresh, it does more than simply rehashing A New Hope.
It puts in the work of creating great new characters, the filmmaking techniques are very different compared to the original trilogy, and they do interesting things with the familiar stuff.
Take the original characters for example, all of them are taken to places that you wouldn’t expect based on the ending of Return of the Jedi.
Having said that, the starkiller base stuff is a bit boring and uninspired, even though there are still many great scenes in the third act.
8/10
Growing up with the OT they'll always have a special place in my heart (especially the Harmy despecialised editions). But to be honest, if I was born in this generation, this is better. It has better and more consistent character development but it still has the original Star Wars feel to it. Even politically, a female main character who's just badass without having to explain why she's strong despite being a woman, the poc in lead roles. I wish, I really do wish, we didn't have to make a big deal out of it but it'll be a while before this is normalised. Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, and Daisy Ridley were a great choice. In the end, I'm just happy with a great movie with some of the best actors of this time.
Not as good as the previous movies tho. Kylo Ren showing his face for the first time, Me: "Why the long face?"
Best of the worst for me
Literally the best movie of the whole series. And I'm qualified to say that because I was obsessed with the original 3 in the 90s. #yolo, my dudes. I know, you'll never recover, but it IS freaking amazing. #maythe4th
The story is nice but it misses on character building and messes up all the SW Universe as we know it.
There is also comic joke tone that doesn't fit in the story.
When Rey in less than 30 seconds learned the jedi mind trick to get free it was too much and I had to stop watching. Com'on how on earth (ehm galaxy) is this possible for an untrained? She is even able to battle on par with the Master of the Knights of Ren an already trained apprentice!!!
What about the lead villain? He seems a crying child that destroys everything around him when something goes wrong...
For me it's a 6. It would have been an 8 for special effects and story would there have not been the original trilogy that taught us how much practice, experience and patience you need to be able to use the force.
I still remember when I watched this in the cinema (hard to believe this was a bit more than 5 years ago). Watching the intro in a cinema already felt worth it as this was the first Star Wars movie that I could watch in the cinema and those movies had a big influence on my childhood.
The "jokes" where unexpected but in hindsight they're not that great (apart from calling the Millenium Falcon garbage :D). Unfortunately the overall story wasn't impressive and felt pretty silly (it's basically just another Death Star with another vulnerability and I cannot take the First Order seriously).
But nonetheless I enjoyed it an I'm very glad that they're making new Star Wars movies and TV shows. I'm mainly into it for the fantasy universe (especially the force and ships) and CGI. I also liked Rey (though the british accent is already reason enough for me).
(But tbh I really should downgrade my rating to 9/10 for the Death Star alone...)
An enjoyable beginning to the sequel trilogy!
'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' entertained me. It felt like a fresh direction for the overall franchise, which I guess is little surprise given George Lucas was not a major part of this. I actually didn't notice a great deal of difference, or at least as much as I thought there'd be given his exclusion.
I enjoyed seeing the new cast merge with the old trio, even if there are only small appearances from two of the latter. Daisy Ridley and John Boyega are excellent additions, both give top performances - I will say I didn't sense major chemistry between the two, but I assume that'll come soon enough. Adam Driver, meanwhile, suits his role nicely.
Original trio Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill all feature, though - as alluded to - Ford is the only one that has a major part to play. Either way, it's cool seeing them back in the franchise.
Everything else about the film satisfied me, I'm not saying it's perfect - esp. the plot - but I found it perfectly fun to watch. For me, it's a strong start for this era of 'Star Wars'.
I am still so frustrated with the sequels following this movie and how they squandered such a great set up. The chemistry between Han Solo, Finn, and Rey worked great and it was completely forgotten in the next movie. The reunion with Han and Luke would have been great. Instead we are left with a unsatisfying reboot of the franchise. This was a pretty good movie that understood what it wanted to do.
The problem is the new cast are all awful, and this let's feel sorry for the father killing psychopath is hilarious.
I felt exactly the same I did when I saw Episode I (and subsequently episodes II, III, VII, VIII and IX), in this order:
- Excited (logo and titles)
- Expectant (first 15 mins)
- Bored (1 hour)
- Annoyed (1,5 hours)
- Angry (the end)
It's simply ridiculous, maybe not as ridiculous as Episode VIII. A total insult to the original trilogy and canon, as Prequels were.
I still love this movie so much. It surely is very similar story wise to „A New Hope“ but I think it‘s just a delight to watch. New characters are introduced and we get to see beloved characters from the original trilogy again. Also great locations, special effects and the soundtrack is a real treat too.
So much promise, fantastic fantastic relaunch and seventh episode by the master… JJ Abrams. So much promise.
A Star Wars movie OK, not the most perfect but good.
Star Wars fans will certainly not agree with the ending.
These new movies have a problem, they are slowly removing all the classic Star Wars characters, and it seems to have been more interesting with all the classic characters.
The story is a bit weak, Rey is not trained by any Jedi in this movie.
But that sad ending with Solo and Kylo Ren, is much too badly done, it actually doesn't make sense in the Star Wars movie.
Deserves note 8.
That Leia/Rey hug really hit different.
So, so much heart in this one, loved it.
I liked it even better than the previous ones. The plot, the characters and the visual effects. The music is once again brilliant. I was told not to watch the new trilogy because it wasn't good but I'm glad I didn't listen.
"Chewie, we're home."
The Force Awakens is a continuation of the "Star Wars" saga, balance returns to the Force as the First Order, emerging from the ashes of the Empire, clashes with the Resistance, which includes scrappy newcomers as well as heroes from the former Rebel Alliance.
It's been awhile since we've seen a Star Wars movie hit theaters and the last one wasn't that great. Fans today are still not over what George Lucas did. Then the news came out about a 7th film in one of the biggest and most iconic franchise of all time, but that only made fans more worried. Everyone had doubts over J.J. Abrams directing a new Star Wars movie, because Star Wars is one of the BIGGEST movies ever and fans seriously don't want another Phantom Menace on their hands, but after seeing the movie I can safely say that J.J. Abrams nailed it.
J.J. Abrams broke his back making this movie, I mean taking on a project like this is a big deal. Abrams himself is a fan of the original Star Wars movies and while watching this movie I could tell. He put everything in this movie and it absolutely paid off. I can't imagine anyone else directing this movie and I think it's a perfect idea for a Star Wars fan (like Abrams) to direct the movie, because he knows his roots better than Lucas. Abrams really listened to fans and this isn't the first time a director did that. I mean, with J.J. Abrams wanting to make a good Star Wars movie, he wants to get everything nailed down perfectly and the best way he could do that is by listening to what people what. Abrams did fantastic job directing this movie as he added a mix of A New Hope, the old school film making and a little bit of a Star Trek feel to it.
Daisy Ridley and John Boyega play new character's in the Star Wars saga and both of them are unknown stars to some people. Both of them deliver a great performance and their characters were enjoyable to watch. The characters themselves are interesting, you care for them and you have a little glimpse of their back story that makes you want to know more about them. All the characters in the movie are great and I'm talking about the old and new characters.
Now lets talk about the villain 'Kylo Ren' played by Adam Driver. This might honestly be the most fleshed out, human and understandable villain we've had since Vader, now I'm not saying he's the next Vader or he's up up there with Vader, but he is a menacing villain that's quite frightening at times. He's not the type of villain that's just evil or tries to have a clear motivation that's done poorly in other movies, but here (Without spoiling everything) is more than that. He was a great villain and just his presence can make anyone go silent.
I loved the use of the CGI in this movie. Abrams went back to original way of filming things and that's blending the CGI into the background that this universe is set in, and it's execution was beautiful. Now when I think about it, the whole movie is one big "f**k you" to George Lucas and how this movie avoids the things that we hated in the prequels (two of them is the use of CGI and Jar Jar).
To those wondering if Luke Skywalker is in the movie and again without giving too much away, yes, he is.
Now for the flaws: A lot of people have said that The Force Awakens is basically a remake of A New Hope and I do agree on that. Some may not problem with that and that's fine by me, but there were some call backs that felt a bit force (No pun intended).
I already talked about how amazing the visual effect's look, but some effect's were a bit noticeable. I think some of the noticeable effect's were some of the CGI character's. But all that a side, the rest of the effect's was really good.
Overall rating: The Force Awakens is a great Star Wars movie and it feels good saying that. It's way way better than the prequels and Return of the Jedi. It's absolutely worth seeing.
P.S. Here is something for those people who are going to spoil this movie for others.
"Those attempting to spoil Star Wars for others, know that it's the most attention you'll likely receive in life". - Quote by Chris Stuckmann
Still can’t understand how someone that just discovered the Force was able, in order, to: mentally resist a trained “sith”, use the force to make a trooper do something (influencing his weak mind), get the lightsaber using the force, kick the ass on a lightsaber duel on the previous mentioned trained “sith”. Anakin and Luke needed a lot of time and training to be able to do this things, why did they have to rush it this time? It went like “oh the Force is true? Cool, I can master it already”. Said this, the first 80 minutes of the movie were enjoyable.
Third watch and still only a 6....sigh.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a direct sequel to the original Star Wars trilogy, revitalizes the franchise, delivering an exciting and action-packed space adventure. In the wake of the disappearance of Luke Skywalker, the last Jedi Knight, two rival factions, the Resistance and the First Order, chase after a driod that contains a map to Skywalker's secret location. The plot is quite similar to that of the first Star Wars; changing out the Death Star plans for a map, Darth Vader for Kylo Ren, and a naïve farm boy for a scavenger. Yet it still has its own style and tone that both homages the original trilogy and does its own thing. Additionally, newcomer Daisy Ridley has great screen presence and gives a strong performance. Also, the special effects are incredibly well-done, as are the sets and costumes. With Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams has returned the series back to its roots.
I liked this movie quite a bit when it came out. However even then I was very nervous about the future because the potential of this film and it’s true quality depended on the pay off in the next film. The next film absolutely destroyed the whole point and plot of this film and in itself was a horrible follow up to a trilogy that is supposed to have continuity. I honestly think the creator (I won’t say his name or the name of that) of the next film truly wanted to destroy the franchise. I can’t imagine why you would ignore every significant plot point of The Force Awakens and kill the main villain and ruin one of the greatest heroes in the history of cinema history. It invalidated both the first film and entire sequel trilogy. There was potential here and the Force awakens could have been a 10/10 rating, but that’s not the case. Disney should be ashamed of themselves
Disney and JJ Abrams swing hard in their effort to repair the damage done by Episodes I-III, ultimately coming back with mixed results. Spiritually it's dead-on, a loving tribute to the original trilogy that's a stylistic and thematic clone (with several not-so-subtly borrowed plot points) that makes for great fan service. Few cinematic properties have the rich, sprawling mythos of the Star Wars universe, and Episode VII is wise to draw from that at every turn. Those shared past experiences with familiar characters, settings and devices go a long way; without six films' worth of enhancement to help prop it up, this is just an average sci-fi picture.
Wonderfully produced, with long, regular opportunities to appreciate the efforts of its all-world concept artists, somewhere the steep sense of scale was lost. It's a rather thin movie, all told, one that feels decidedly less sweeping and grandiose than its precursors. Less of a space opera than an interplanetary sonnet.
The new cast members seem deep and interesting, so there's plenty of hope for future installments, but it's a little unsettling that Harrison Ford so thoroughly outshines them all. It's nice to see the rest of the old gang again, even if Carrie Fisher completely phones her performance in, but Ford is the film's heart and soul. Somewhere in the next installment, those new characters are going to need to step out of his shadow and carry things on their own.
A promising step forward, teasing some intriguing potential directions for the rest of the new trilogy, but lacking a lot of the invariables that made A New Hope and Empire the timeless classics that they remain today. Much better than the prequels, in any case.
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’:
New SW keep the climate of the first SW (action) and derive what is good from the second SW (story and depth). I think it could be a good new beginning… ;>
"A tender homage to, especially, the initial Star Wars."
The Five Faces of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS
The stakes in this film are high from the very start. Everything looks and feels bigger, but visually the film stays true to the original trilogy.
Wonderdul to once again hear John Williams' classic score, combined with equally epic new tunes.
The world around the characters - planets new and old - feels a whole lot more alive than ever before.
The use of practical effects and models is admiring and gives the film a realistic touch. CGI is used smartly and only where necessary.
Harrison Ford returning as Han Solo is pure gold. He's as grumpy, devious and funny as always. His scenes with Joonas Suotamo's Chewbacca are the greatest part of the the film.
The final lightsaber duel is one of the most epic snd memorable ones in the series, even if it feels unrealistic and perhaps a bit too big at this point.
Daisy Ridley truly personifies Rey as a heroine for a new generation. She has the makings of an iconic character and easily carries the film forward. She is a strong female character that suits Ridley perfectly.
The film combines the best parts of the original and new trilogies, while effectively broadening the mythos created by George Lucas.
The main characters have different backgrounds and characteristics. They complement each other and make for a satisfying pool of personas.
Ford and Carrie Fisher are truly wonderful together and it's a shame we can't enjoy their shared adventures in subsequent films.
The pacing is fine, with the feel of adventure being strong. The film feels larger in scale compared to the previous entries.
Rey's road from zero to hero is unrealistically fast as she masters the Force almost perfectly by the end of the film. It just feels too fast to be believable. She goes from someone who doesn't believe in the Force to jedi master in no time.
There's a lot going on all the time, with almost every action scene being an epic action piece. There's very little breathing space or miniscule moments.
While definitely iconic and memorable, the Millennium Falcon chase on Jakku almost feels like too much of a good thing.
The Rancar sequence feels superfluous and could have been left on the cutting room floor.
The film fails to explain how the galaxy once again has an evil movement rising and why.
General Hux and captain Phasma feel like extra characters who mainly sound and look villainous without actually getting much evil done. Phasma in particular is pretty useless.
Loads of plot holes and inconsistencies make the film more rough around the edges, but don't massively ruin the experience.
:frowning2:
Kylo Ren goes from vicious Darth Vader copy to whining, emo teenager wannabe sith and loses all credibility. He's not the worst villain of the series but he's annoying as hell.
I don't know whether it was intended, but the plot copies A New Hope almost exactly, with differences in details, settings and characters. It's easy to figure out the progression of the plot beforehand since it copies the first film.
:face_vomiting:

The Final Face:  // Good
Netflix puts up The Force Awakens, I assume, in honour of Carrie Fishers passing. I never saw the 'prequels' in some attempt to not taint my teenage impressions of the original Star Wars movies but this sequel was good. Much better then I assumed it would be. It kept me on my seat with an engaging story all the way through. Who knows I may go back now. Maybe.
Quite simply the best of a long line of best movies!
Star Wars the force awakens
saw it in cinema and it was almost glad I spent the money but rey and kilo ren are just awfull (both the characters and the acting) ; star wars worlds depictions is very good and I hope they don't skip on the budget for further movies.
This movie is a disappointment bringing nothing new to the Star Wars universe. It is unoriginal and a rehash of A New Hope. I didn't care for the new characters who are not interesting. Rey is bland and overpowered, Poe is useless, Finn is annoying and he can use a lightsaber without training (why ???) and Kylo Ren is a pale imitation of Vader who fails to be threatening. The visuals can't save the inconsistencies of the movie.
it's official, Disney ruined Star wars for me. A New hope, only in boring.

This movie is little more than a rehash of the original trilogy. Plot points are beat for beat recreations of scenes in the originals, except when they're trying to "fix" things that they wanted to have happen in the series years ago. Boyega overacts throughout the entire movie.
It's not bad though. In fact, I like it more after watching 'The Last Jedi'. Poe and Rey were both great (especially Poe), and the flight scenes were exhilarating. Compared to its sequel, it's far more focused. The movie's biggest problem is that it lacks passion. Most of it feels like it was made by a committee instead of someone who actually has something to say.
Sure, the movie is entertaining, but so were the older movies that this takes from. When this does little more than retread old ground, can it really be rated any higher?
The worst reboot ever guy what is this copy paste of the scenario of the 4. And guys please choose better actor or stop with the shut up it s work like that. Just we don't would to believe in this hero there just here for the scenario and not the opposite. The only good point is visually it s beautiful and it s star Wars but except that It s rape of the original star Wars by George Lucas. So sad I m waiting for this movie but it s just another commercial reboot movie
Even though it feels familiar, it still is one of hell of a ride. I still get chills when Rey uses the force to grab the lightsaber. This is the funniest Star Wars by far and I really enjoyed that. The new characters are all great and I can't wait to see more of them in The Last Jedi.
The film seems a bit unstructured and chaotic to me, but I almost cried when Han Solo returned to Millenium Falcon though I am not a huge Star Wars fan, rather a casual watcher.
Ok one can watch the film... it has great special effects... Obviously all the crazy fans can watch the same film again and again, but this just looks like an updated version of the original trilogy... Please can we have a new storyline...
So this is how you water-down and milk Star Wars... While things like the obvious racial and gender pandering are cheap tricks and it's a bit lazy for mostly just being a retread of New Hope, it's still a blast. Very entertaining sci-fi adventure.
The good:
- The beginning as always in star wars was superb
- The final light saber fight between Ray and Kylo in the snow
- The new characters, pretty original a Stormtropper protagonist and very refreshing a heroine instead a man
- Continuity to visual aspect from original trilogy
The bad:
- The story is not very original, there are a lot of similarities to original trilogy, specially with episode IV. This aspect is well received in the visual but not in the plot building.
- All related with this first order, I don't buy it. It seems that everything was put to be similar to original trilogy, but it is not well justified.
- The humor sometimes worked, but most of the times I felt it a little forced.
- New characters development was a little rush.
And Who Gave You Permission To Remove That Helmet
Leia Doesn't Wanna See Me
J.J. Abrams returns to take a franchise of this dimension after "Star Trek".
"The Force Awakens" is the best 'Star Wars Movie' in more than 30 years (The prequels were a disappointment).
Although the plot is very similar with "A New Hope". Abrams found ways to be different (BB-8, the complexity of Kylo Ren's brain and essentially the chemistry between Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Harrison Ford).
It was ok, however, I couldn't get over the Disney-fication of the movie... Kylo Ren looks like goofy, absolutely not menacing or scary... just a spoiled, weird teenager that kills his father for no reason... The rest of the plot absolutely made no sense either.. how did Rey and Fnn manage to master the force/lightsaber so quickly?
I thought it was boring but I was wrong. it was cool. thank you for now wasting my time and thank you jas for sharing the file. Hahaha. may the force be with you?
Disney has run ruined the star wars franchise....no real story and bowing down to the PC crowd by using a female for the main role,etc......
Only good thing in the movie was seeing the original characters.... 5/10. Let's hope the next ones better
I haven't seen this since I saw it in the cinema when it was released...does it still make the grade I gave it?
Indeed it does!!!
It's still Star Wars as it should be...and I got an even better impression of that sound design when I tried it in my home theatre. I might even have to upgrade further because I suspect it's more to get out of that impressive sound.
Kinda sad to see Carrie Fisher in this one, knowing it might be the last time we see her and her princess. As my nephew said...Heroes shouldn't be allowed to die!!
It's indeed a return to form for the franchise, and it's one hell of an action packed movie
Well Done J.J. Abrams...now let's see if you can do it again...
Redeemed the franchise...great flick, good to see new and old faces...sucks we won't live long enough to mortgage the house for a down payment on a Falcon of my own..straight robbed son
First time I watched it, I thought they ripped of and recycled the first original movie. Then I rewatched the original, and after just seeing "The Force Awakens", the effects and creatures in "A New Hope" suddenly looked dated. Afterwards I re-watched "The Force Awakens" and very much enjoyed it.
Finn gets shocked when a fellow trooper die in front o him and do not want to kill the people of that village, but it's just fine with blasting dozens of his fellows troopers to escape with Poe.
Gets better each time I watch it. Upping my rating to reflect that. (Now watched it 5 times, definitely worth a 9)
What really turns me off about this movie is that the few potentially interesting characters that get introduced are sidelined for the sake of focusing on probably one of the most boring female protagonists that's ever been written, and a boring edgelord antagonist. Rey has no personality outside of being good at everything and being passive aggressive when any male character asks her if she's okay. I couldn't bring myself to care about her and it definitely impacted my overall enjoyment of the movie, but even when she wasn't shitting it up there really isn't enough to care about to compel me to watch any more of these. The soundtrack also leaves much to be desired, almost as if John Williams also felt that this movie was a completely unnecessary cashgrab and put as little effort into the OST as possible.
82% is a little high. I enjoyed it for what it was which is a one off experience. Maybe a watch in a few years. The only emotion I felt was due to liking the old movies and nothing to do with the new one. It plays on the old star wars and isnt brave enough to be original. Poe is an obvious Solo rip off. The movie is full of old Star Wars ideas that have been done already. It doesnt really bother me as long as its well made and it is. The action and cinematography were good. I didn't mind Kylo being weak as many did as I'm sure it's part of his character development and he'll come back stronger. But yeah he was trained by skywalker yet is so weak. That could have been different. Seemed like an opportunity just to stuff some connection to skywalker in for the later episode but it wasn't thought out properly in the overall picture. They know fans go over this stuff with a fine tooth comb. The humour bits felt new but out of placertain sometimes. I'd rather have some suspense leading up to an action sequence instead of humour leading to action. The movie is a 6 but polished upto a 7 thanks to the budget.
This is a great movie, a trip of nostalgia with balanced characters and lovely cinematography. Kudos to JJ Abrams.
A re-imagined version of A New Hope, still good though. But I hope they develop the story in the next movies.
this was so good i don't even know what to say
oh abrams... this is what happen when good director slash die hard fans makes a movie that can even match the original director, and... Pssst... kylo ren killed han solo
I barely had the interest in handing it a 4 hearts rating..If the older characters were not present this movie would have been about NOTHING, starring nothing.. Costumes are weak as hell.. and they basically stretched out a very simple unimaginative storyline for 2 hours. Completely exploiting the first one along the way. Abrams is not what the media make him out to be..
can do more better but they keep for next one.
I didn't even watch the last (first?) Three ones because annoying Whatnots that tried to be cute for kids I guess and kids doing races and winning. Felt like Disney passed out on a typewriter. So this is the next attempt...
Just small cute attempts (who knew robots that can't speak can make sad sounds? Who thinks that is cute?). Characters almost talked normal. No, people don't finish each others sentences at the same time. Please...
Story didn't feel like one story. Tried to explain to much what happened here and there and them got lost and poof... All good. Could have been direct to vhs release for all I care.
The first Star Wars movie where the "Dark Side" wasn't at all impressive. Also I hope they bring a bit more story in the next one, instead of just copying basically every famous scene from the previous movies.
But all in all I admire Disney for pushing the franchise, as George Lucas just hardly made the effort. We're already getting another spin-off movie this year and also the whole setting fits mucht better to the movies 4-6 than 1-3 ever will.
Nothing new, disappointing but I love the saga....so a sentimental 7.
This movie is essentially a remake of the original star wars. Yes, there are new characters. And yes, the story of the old characters is updated. But the main themes and troops of this movie repeat the old themes and troops. There a young one in whom The Force is strong, but who knows nothing of this, until SHE is thrown into epic events of galactic proportion. And there are evil men in whom the dark side of the force is strong.
I guess the shocking part in the movie is the identity of the super villains: the son of Hans Solo and Princess Leah --- the successor of his grandfather, Darth Vader ---, who serves Supreme Leader Snooke, the most talented student of Luke Skywalker, and whom has now turned to the Dark Side of the force. I suppose that this is not as unexpected as it might at first appear. After all, the original trilogy pitted son against father. So in this new trilogy --- of which this is the beginning --- a son kills a father, this time in the service of evil rather than good.
Yes, Hans Solo is killed when he tries to bring back his son from the self-embraced darkness.
And Luke Skywalker only shows up at the very end, when the young gifted one (who may or may not be family --- the hints are tantalizing!) symbolically asks for training: apparently Luke had retired from the universe in despair as a response to the actions of his nephew and his best student. Perhaps he never intended to train anyone ever again --- turning his back on The Force. But like The Godfather in Part III, whatsoever his own wishes might be, he is pulled back in, at the very last scene of this movie.
The plot is good --- but familiar.
looks great in 4k brill movie
A phenomenal sequel to the original trilogy and an amazing show of loyalty to the original cast, crew and filming techniques used 40 years ago. A refreshing surprise after the sidetracking Sith trilogy. 10/10
I thought the movie was a complete waste.my daughter could have come up with a better premice.
HE should't have to die...
While the cinematography is awesome, the whole film just started to gradually get boring after the first half.
Don't get me wrong, the characters are awesome and hilarious, but I can definitely see Disney's hand all in this. There was perhaps too much humor, and it really affected the tone of the series overall. I wanted something more shocking. I'm really hoping that they don't follow the same basic plot from the original trilogy in the next one.
Kylo Ren was absolutely... something. I definitely can understand why people talk about his 'temper tantrums' so often now. They really are!
Fantastic excellent photography and film
Nothing over exciting. Just a fantasy with elements of comedy. Even Ford didn't help.
Adam Driver is the weakest link, other than that the movie was great.
Brilliant film to watch in your own home cinema room. www.thehomecinemacompany.co.uk, if your looking for to expand your home and are looking to add panache, just give us a call and we will be more then happy to help you with your project.
I think this was a piss poor continuation of the "Original" star wars.. They ripped off the same exact plot, the same exact scenes, the same exact everything. Oh we have CGI now so lets just use it everywhere for everything.. This episode used ZERO creativity and left me with an absolute horrible taste in my mouth for both Disney and a man i thought highly of J. J. Abrams. For hard core star wars fans like myself to hype this and end with such a disgrace and disrespect to something George Lucas made history with ??? Disgusted with how this was just a money grabbing endeavour.. that is by far the worst Star Wars Episode ever... It will NEVER sit on the same shelf with the rest of the great Star Wars Box Set... pffffffffft glad i didn't pay a dime and downloaded this piece of shit rendition and really? Carrie Fisher had a movie coming up and she didn't really care what she looked like? And how do you just off Han Solo like that... sorry folks... absolutely disgusted with this.
A film without a beginning, and without an end.
First time I watched it in the cinemas it was amazing, it glued me to the screen and honestly one of the greatest movies in the trilogies.
Would watch again.
Sorry but this has not lived up to the hype, often found myself looking down at my phone :( good but lacks new creativity. seen it all before and that's exactly how it felt. I have a new hope that things will improve ;)
I last saw the first-made three films about ten years ago, and still enjoyed them. This film is far superior to the three films that were last made, but is still an uncomfortable ball of prejudice and xenophobia. The blu-ray actually subtitles some dialogue as spoken by "ALIEN". Well...who's an alien in all this, then? Isn't that a note on the bars that definitely should not be in-place? Drab.
In total, the film bored me. Could be that Star Wars isn't in me any more, or that I'm too alienated by it.
I'm not a star wars fan and I'll never be. The whole movie just feels like it popped out of the eighties. The old formula, good vs evil, doesn't work anymore. Everything was too shallow, there isn't no proper character development, they're just running and fighting constantly. Basically, for me, it was a very silly movie full of hype and sexism. Disappointed but not surprised.
It's JJ Abrams, who I thought several projects back is the new Spielberg, so I'm not surprised how wonderful it turned out.
Nothing really new, a script not very surprising, mostly a mix between some of the previous ones. Nice to see H. Ford back to the source, the rest of the casting is quite good except for Kylo Ren, as soon as he removes his mask he look so stupid. A caricature of the villain. In the end a nice entertainment nothing more. But what could you expect from Disney...
Did not get to see it in theatres. Waited patiently to see my favourites on screen again. I laughed, I cried, I had goosebumps.
Seriously, it is not as bad as all my friends claim. This is a solid film, and a good addition to the franchise.
mindless fun. and eye candy and nothing more. poorly written and weak cast.yes, it´s better than the 1st 3 movies but its not even close to te 1st trilogy.
Also i dont get the hype with this Daisy chick. Not really that cute and missing a bit ... well, talent. i do hope she´s not the next tomb raider like some news say....
I don't get it: why are other movies dissed when they rehash the plot, reuse the same elements all over again, imitate other movies; but when it's Star Wars, all critics from all around the world glorify it to the fullest?
When it was just Rey and Finn's tiny adventure, Force Awakens is all fun and games. It's interesting, it draws us to know more. But after they met the old casts (Han, Chewie, etc), Eps VII really just that: a rehash of Eps IV, VI, and IV with better visuals. It's not even being consistent with the original trilogy (not prequel!) Star Wars logic, e.g. hyperdrive being usable indoor, Han Solo being unfamiliar with his 30 years best-bud weapon, "the Force" being something you have inside you instead of the energy around you that you have to control, etc.
Not to mention the forced narrative like Rey seeing Han as a fatherly figure despite them only meeting about 15 minutes ago, Kylo Ren being someone with impeccable force power, and odd plot decision like Leia giving a hug to a certain someone instead the other one who has been with the guy for a very long time. The fact that the script has to mention that, for example, Rey sees Han as a fatherly figure shows how forced the narrative is--audience can't see that, so the script has to shove that to audience eyes!
I can continue on and on, but this is one of the worst blockbuster I've ever seen. Especially since it's Star Wars.
I've only seen about half of the movie it's awesome so far. .

When it comes to the start of the sequel trilogy of Star Wars, I somehow find that I like it a little less every time I watch it. Until now, I still remembered “The Force Awakens” as the best part of Episodes VII through IX. In terms of story, it's a pretty unimaginative rehash of the original “Star Wars." But as a starting point for a new trilogy, there are certainly worse options. And the cast works pretty well for me too. I never had a problem with the new trio of Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac. And there's also something about seeing Harrison Ford reprise his role as Han Solo.
However, a few story decisions really bothered me at the end. And while the prequels overdid it with the politics, the sequels are an overcorrection. Neither this installment nor the sequels provide a true sense of the galaxy's current state. As a result, the world appears smaller than it should be. All in all, I would still say that I like “The Force Awakens," but I definitely can't get behind that statement with much passion.
