I hate Kendall so much..... Roman is annoying, but he's slightly more tolerable and I don't think Kieran Culkin was a horrible casting choice for him. He plays the character fine even if he isn't making the painfully awkward dialogue work like Braun does, but I genuinely think that they casted Kendall wrong or am I crazy. Like this character is fucking insufferable not in the way that the show wants him to be like in a "this guy is a bad person." Like I said in my comment on the first episode, so many of these jokes are run to the ground and are not funny. The writing of this show does not allow for the implied humor of situations or the implied drama of a situation and it seems like lines are added that are the equivalent of the actor turning to the audience and saying "Did you guys get that one? That was a bit." There are plenty of examples from this episode, but the first one that comes to mind is the part where Roman and Kendall are talking and Roman makes a joke about how he says some sort of business related thing during sex, and if they left it off at that comment it would have just been an okay joke, but then he keeps going on it and it stops being remotely funny, and for an office family drama, this show sure does have a lot of unfunny beaten to the ground sex jokes. In contrast, there is occasionally a scene where it DOES just let you sit there and watch the performances and take a funny situation as funny without the dialogue trying to play wiseguy. For example, my favorite scene in this episode is when Tom proposes to Shiv while her father is critical condition and after having to remind him that that was really weird for him to do, her acceptance of it is her saying "yeah whatever" and it was genuinely funny! And that bit had build up! I wish there were more bits like that than whatever Kendall and Roy have going on and I wish that the actual dramatic parts had dialogue that was written in a way that was not infuriating because I do understand the themes here and respect it, but the execution so far is not pleasing me.
