Zero Dark Thirty

This film, although it has undeniable image and acting qualities, is just too much bordering on propaganda of US war on terror and justification of extra judicial killing. No one should support this.

Altered Carbon

This is just a passable sci-fi drama. The acting is sub par, the dialog are worse, the camera angles are pedestrian and the story line is boring. If you have nothing else to watch, you might be interested in trying to watch this. But even the ending feels like the director knew what he had on his hands, and was expecting this show to be cancelled, which wouldn't surprise me.

Dunkirk

While the viewer could be excused for not knowing the event surroundings the evacuation of Dunkirk, Nolan took the approach of denying anything else than his idealized version of those events, with obvious inaccuracies that makes the film cringe-worthy at time, almost as bad as U-571. The rest of the time, the little action and almost non existent dialogues do very little to fill what could otherwise be a perfect setup for a contemplative film (see the Thin Red Line from Terrence Malick for an example). This is a big let down and I would rather watch another couple of Clint Eastwood or Mel Gibson war movie than this, which, although isn't intrinsically bad, isn't very good either.

Sicario: Day of the Soldado

- We are going to fight those dirty mexican as if they were dirty iraky.
- How are we going to do that, Chef?
- We are going to find the most bad ass contractor that isn't afraid of being dirty (read torturing people for gaining information) and unleash him on unsuspecting mexican cartel family while paying him handsomely. But we are still going to tell him off if there are any cops killed while the undercover super secret operation is in progress. We are not complete barbarian, after all.
..... Much action and much suspense music later: End Credit

A disappointment. Not the follow up of the first installment that I was hoping for.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Teenager angst movie with super hero as back drop. Best part of the film: May's reaction at the end. The rest is mediocre at best.

This show should be renamed the Talking Beds. It is that boring. The characters could learn from time to time. But no instead they will repeatedly make the same stupid mistake again and again, and cry about it. A lot. In fact most of the show is them crying about what they have done so far. And if I were any of them I would do the same, because they haven't done a lot in 8 seasons; Rick is still a shitty leader that should have been killed by his own people for the good of the rest of them.

House of Cards

Even if the show is now over 25 years old, it is a master piece, Ian Richardson pills a hell of a performance. So much of the US show can be found in it, and at the same time the quality of both are equals in so many ways. Loved it. The only down side is how short the season are.

Booooooring. I cannot fathom what kind of people in their right mind would enjoy suffering through each and every episode. You have to have at least an inkling of an interest in those ex royals' life.

House of Cards: 6x08 Chapter 73

The last season and certainly the last episode can be seen as a requiem for a show that couldn't recover from the fatal wound of loosing its main character.

Big HBO production. Slow gripping storyline following both humans and android/robot/replicant. Probably the best show of 2016.

[Edit 2020] After watching the second and third season, I would recommend NOT to watch the 2nd season and ignore completely the 3rd one, despite the fact that 3 more season are planned. The reason is whereas the 1st season is close to the original material, the interesting bits of the slow 2nd season are dropped in the 3rd one and replaced by a very boring simplistic story line. I would go as far as comparing it to Altered Carbon (another science fiction show that has more emphasis on action and CGI than actual character development and story) . I have therefore dropped the rating accordingly.

Thanks God, Top Gear Two (I mean The Grand Tour) is on Amazon Prime. :D

Not sure if Nicole Kidman can really act or just be herself. It is entertaining until it isn't anymore the last couple of episode are pure bullshit. Nothing get really resolved.

The epitome of both British politics and British political satire. Although it is now 40 years old, it feels so current, it is sometimes frightening. Highly recommended if you liked the duo John Bird & John Fortune or Clarke & Dawe.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout

For the fan of the series and/or Tom Cruise.

For anyone else: Tom Cruise find another excuse to show off how much he like to play the stunt man while being the lead actor. The rest is below average with a plot coming from the 90s: Back stab, back stab, nuclear bomb, everyone goes home and the hero gets the girl, while the funny side kicks are safe.

American Assassin

NOT A SPY MOVIE, like other reviewers have said, it is full of cliche to the point where you know how scenes will develop. I would just add to this the whole "one man army" syndrome, which is really disturbing when you take it at face value, and instead of making you think about the concept of vengeance in a modern society, you go along for a not so much emotional rampage among unnoticeable civilians. This could have worked 10-20 years ago. In today world? not so much.

Da 5 Bloods

The treatment of this story is poor at best and drags on for longer that I could be bothered.

I am keen on vietnam war era movies, especially when they provide a new point of view, and the scenario promised to be that. But between the scene given a poor camera, the disjointed storyline with numerous flashback using the same actors, the mix in of flashes of civil right events of the times, the length for some scenes without really any impact on the rest of the story and the basic same old clichés about the 60s/70s era make this a film a missable experience unless you are considering spending 2:30 hours on a Spike Lee film.

What could have been a masterpiece outside the realm of BLM, is instead a repetitive and unexciting focus on 5 Vietnam vets who happen to be black.

For All Mankind

Watched 3 episode of the Nationalism dripping drama, that has really good premises. Unfortunately the story, history wrangling and actor choices are a real let down. Tried again after Season 2 was release (due to prominent advertising) and was confirmed in my initial impression. This is a hard miss for me.
