Don't F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer

What did I just watch?!?
After hearing a lot of talk surrounding this series, I decided to give it a go & OMG, it certainly lived up to the hype. The series follows a group of people who, after watching a video on the internet, where a guy is killing kittens, make it their goal to track this guy down.
I know there are those apprehensive about watching the series, given the subject matter, but thankfully it doesn`t show too much of the footage, often concentrating on the parts of the video before the acts take place. Its an unusual set up to a series, but things go even stranger, to a point where, if this were in a movie, you would say that it goes OTT. But this is real life. As the saying goes, fact is stranger than fiction.
In my opinion, this is one of these must watch shows, like making a murderer etc. Its not for everyone, but I think most people will be really captivated by the events of the story.

Missing 411: The Hunted

Really interesting documentary about missing persons, highlighting those of missing hunters. I first heard of David Paulideswork some years ago while listening to a interview he gave on theMysterious Universepodcast. Since then I also watched his first documentary. I think Paulides has done tremendous work in this area & this documentary highlights some of his most interesting cases & he also presents common traits that are to be found in the different cases, like how theres more often than not very bad weather surrounding the search, they usually go missing around boulders etc. the list goes on. The later half of the documentary entertains some slightly out there ideas, but not overly so. One of the best parts of the documentary is watching law enforcement & search & rescue members discussing cases theyve worked on & being totally flummoxed. As one helicopter pilot said, youre used to finding people, whether that be finding them alive or deceased. But not finding them at all is a rarity.

Overall, I`d really recommend seeing this documentary. As stated above, Paulides has done great research & the documentary presents it well.

Dark: Season 2

Really liked season 1 when it originally came out & thankfully season 2 didnt disappoint. Thought that it successfully built on the foundations of the first season.Lostis my favourite series of all time & Im really drawn to strange, thought provoking stories & I think dark is certainly thought provoking. Time travel is a hard thing to pull off & its always open to being pulled apart. But I think the writers did a really good job interweaving the narrative through the different time-lines & making it all make sense. Really like the ensemble cast as well. Very well acted. Between this & The OA, its been a good year so far for series that centre around high strangeness.

Ive seenDarkcompared withStranger Things, which does have a lot of overlapping elements, but tonally they can be quite different, but equally entertaining. Looking forward to whenever they drop season 3 ofDark`.

Chernobyl

One of the best shows of the year so far. Only 5 episodes in total & definitely a must watch. It is however a harrowing watch. Like most people, I had heard about the Chernobyl disaster, but didn`t know much beyond the surface level facts. This show really educated me, in a way that was similar to when I watched Band of Brothers. Really well written, acted & produced. It gives real respect to the thousands of men & women who worked tirelessly to bring the catastrophe under control & does an excellent job of putting you into that time period, in a country that was under communist rule. Its scary how close we came to having an even bigger catastrophe, except for the brains & heroics of those people. This series does an excellent job in reminding us how fragile our world is & how we must learn from mistakes made in our past.

Barry: Season 1

One of my favourite tv shows is Dexter & this show shares a lot of that shows DNA. I think it balances nicely the violent undercurrent of the show with humour, which comes down to the good writing & Bill Haders` performance. Good work by the supporting cast also.

Playing Hard

Interesting look into the ups & downs of making a videogame. As someone who doesn`t play games, I still enjoyed watching the creative process of making a game.

Les Misérables

I saw the movie version of this a few years back when it was originally released & thought it was...fine. But I must say, I really thought this BBC adaptation of the story was really good. Very well written, acted & produced. One I`d recommend most definitely.

Marvel's Daredevil: Season 3

I was a big fan of the previous 2 seasons & thankfully season 3 didnt disappoint. Charlie Cox is great again & it was great also to see Wilson Fisk (aka Kingpin) back, who for me has become one of the all time great villains. We got to see Bullseye as well, which I really liked too. I really liked another new character, Agent Nadeem & his arc through the series. I thought Karen &Foggys development was handled very well overall too. A great season all round.

Misery

Ive been a Stephen King fan for years, but never managed to read this particular story or see the movie. Thankfully the movie didnt disappoint. In particular, it had great performances by Kathy Bates & James Caan. Annie Wilkes is a very Dr. Jekyll & Mr Hyde character & Kathy Bates plays her brilliantly. A very thrilling movie. I think sometimes Rob Reiner doesn`t get enough credit as a filmmaker. He did a wonderful job here.

Gerald's Game

Ive been a Stephen King fan for years, both of his books & the movie adaptations, but hadnt read/seen this one. I also really like movies that mostly take place in one location, so this one was right up my alley. And thankfully I quite enjoyed this movie. Carla Gugino was great in particular. Havent seen her in much, but her performance here was great. Carlas character, being tied to bed for most of the movie, made her face her inner demons, which was quite compelling. Something that happens in the 3rd act feels kinda out of nowhere, but I liked it. Really well paced movie too .

BlacKkKlansman

Its crazy to believe that this movie was inspired by real events. Of course, they probably took some liberties, but still, its amazing to believe that something resembling this film happened in real life. Even though its set decades ago, it feels very current & has a particularly strong end to the film that makes you really think about where weve come from & where were going to in the future. I haven`t seen many Spike Lee movies, but I was impressed with his direction & I thought the cast was really good, particularly John David Washington (son of Denzel) & Adam Driver. Definitely one to check out.

Sharp Objects: 1x03 Fix

Sharp Objects is the definition of a slow-burn. If youre looking for a quick, murder mystery show, then Im afraid this aint for you. Its more a character study, but is surprisingly riveting. Its a story based on a Gillian Flynn novel (who also didGone Girl), who worked on the tv show as well. Amy Adams carries the show & deserves an emmy nomination. The ending is truly one of those WTF moments & will leave you reeling & thinking about for days afterward. One of 2018s best.

American Sniper

Always like watching war movies & this one didn`t disappoint. Well acted by Bradley Cooper & was an engaging story. Had to believe Clint Eastwood can still direct so well, considering his advancing years.

Mission: Impossible - Fallout

One of my most anticipated movies of the summer & thankfully it lived up to expectations. Tom Cruise does it again as Ethan Hunt. Quite extraordinary considering this is the 6th instalment in the series. I thought Christopher McQuarrie, who is the only director to come back to direct another Mission Impossible movie once again did well with this movie. My favourites are still the 4th & 5th, but this wasnt all that far behind. Thought the story was well written, the action, as always was great & the acting was good too. I would say Henry Cavil was probably my least favourite part of this instalment. His acting is a bit wooden, but on the plus, hes good when it comes to the action.

Supergirl: 1x03 Fight or Flight

Doesnt rewrite the rulebook with regards the superhero genre, but I liked it. Season 1 was light & fun & was easy to watch. Not quite as good asThe Flash, but still enjoyable. Really like the cast, in particular Melissa Benoist, who is a delight as Kara/Supergirl. Ill be watching season 2 for sure.

Dark

Don`t be put off by this being a foreign language tv show. Its really worth the time. A really good show about time travel.

Sense8

This show felt like a spiritual successor to Cloud Atlas (seen by too few), & was equally good. Its only 2 seasons long, so Id advise people to give it a chance. Has the say creators asThe Matrix`. Really ambitious story for a tv show. Overall, they pulled most of it off.
