Unoriginal story but Erskine hive rise
It is really hard to end a movie like this without it being a straight homage to The Game and feeling fresh. I feel for Jake Johnson for that, because that is the only thing holding back this movie.
Very fun and thought provoking. You can tell this idea was born out of Covid but not in a bad way. LONG LIVE DETECTIVE CRASHMORE
If a movie has Tye Sheridan in it then it inherently cannot be good
All reviews or comments on this film should start with stating what a phenomenal director Sean Durkin is. What he is able to pull out of his actors, the expert lighting and mood, every little detail is top of its class.
I don't know anything about wrestling and this isn't a movie about wrestling, it is a greek tragedy and misery biopic. So many great performances here to call out an individual, but Zac Effron blacks out and turns in an all-time performance here. Absolutely stunning across the board, i can't keep thinking about the entire thing.
Richard Reed Parry absolutely murders the score here too.
I will follow Durkin to the ends of the world after this, Martha Marcy May Marlene, and The Nest.
Harris Dickinson is going to be talked about in best actor circles in the coming years.
Goddamn this series rocks so hard
Michael Mann in his fuckin bag on this one. Better than I thought it'd be and I had zero idea about the story it was telling.
Do not go into this movie thinking it is a sports movie about racing, that it is not.
Really enjoyed the scope and focus of this, every single shot besides the second to last is from the POV of Priscilla.
Sofia does an incredible job at setting and capturing the mood while subverting the expectation of that mood at the same time.
Knockout performances by Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi here. Beautifully shot and set and not to mention the incredible musical direction.
Not going to be for everyone and some may find it a bore, but if you give in to it, it will repay you.
If i've never seen Industry on HBO then i'd be more into this. Everything this film attempts, Industry does far superior.
Good acting by Ehrenreich and Dynevor
The only thing that this franchise has done is telling women that no matter what your partner has done in the past, it is okie dokie as long as he is 1) a "bad boy" and 2) throws up his hands and says he has changed like Michael Scott declaring bankruptcy
Is Hardin the least believable bad boy ever created?
In serious contention for worst writing of the year
This film would greatly have been improved if 1) Luke Grimes and Ellie Kemper had even an iota of chemistry 2) The addition of Bigfoot as a love triangle foil 3) Bigfoot stepping in for Luke Grimes because I am positive it would be an improvement
Every single character here is such a cliche that I thought this was a parody
Was hoping that this would be the 2023 version of Confess, Fletch. An under the radar, sneaky great film. Sadly, this is not that.
Here I am once again begging Toni Collete to fire her entire team and agent
As much as I want to, I just don't "get" Kelly Reichardt.
On paper this film has everything I want. A story small in scope basically about nothing, amazing actors with so much room to operate and turn in great performances, saying more with less, wonky stuff, etc etc etc.
Most of her stuff just goes over my head. First Cow rocked and I really like Night Moves, though!
This is actually a zombie movie because Megan Fox is practically just a dead person this whole movie who is cosplaying as an actress.
Joe Swanberg makes Adam Wingard a porno
One of my favorite sub-genres is the unlikeable dirtbag antihero comedy that is a coming of age story disguised as a romcom. This is a worthy entrant into the class.
Interesting to see the Sean character goes through several years of therapy in about 4 seconds in this film.
within the first 5 minutes they decide to force feed you with on-screen text showing you that the opening scene is in the past because you are too stupid to understand.
then they establish that Ashton Kutcher does not understand what herb plants are.
I'm happy that Steve Zahn got paid for this, but his character serves zero purpose.
Tig Notoro continues to be the best with the least amount of effort. Tig Hive rise up
Nicolas Winding Refn has nudes on every executive. That is the only reason i can think of that allows him to continue writing and directing shows
This feels like it was written for Dakota Johnson, and PRAISE BE that she did not take this dreadful role. Absolutely abhorrent writing.
Patti Harrison- keep getting that bag, girl.
Unreal how a cast this good can all star in a film this poor.
Anna Faris had so much goodwill built up after leaving Worst Chris and she spent it all on this garbage.
Has anyone told Toni Collette that she doesn't have to take every role that is offered to her?
Spiritual cousin to Red Rocket and addition to the Misunderstood Dirtbag collection.
An unsurprisingly PHENOMENAL performance by Andrea Riseborough with a shockingly good performance by Marc Maron
Scoot McNairy needs a new agent
My therapist thinks the only reason I keep watching these After movies is because I am a glutton for punishment
Somewhere deep within this poor script is a good story. Adam starts off married to Will and then falls in love with his tutor. Had better hopes for this.
WHY DO HETEROSEXUAL MEN CONTINUE TO PLAY HOMOSEXUAL CHARACTERS?
Comments here need to be at minimum 5 words, but there are only 3 that are needed:
holy shit, chef
What a great example of working with less or moving in space!
I actually disagree with others that knock this; I think it is a feature and not a bug.
The story and plot is very straightforward, familiar, and even overused or seen 100 times before. In her first feature debut, Chloe Okuno takes all of that in stride and makes something great here.
The tension building comes from someone who has been doing this for a long time, score, the lighting, location, camera, etc are all top-notch. Maika Monroe in the leading role does a phenomenal job here and just lets her face and expression tell the whole story.
If you're a fan of atmospheric, thoughtful, and physiological thriller you should really give this a spin! Just remember that flower, sugar, and butter may make a cake, but not all cakes are the same.
This film won't be for everyone, even those that are Garland fans. For those that do enjoy it, I believe a re-watch will be beneficial.
As always, Jessie Buckley completely knocks it out of the park. Sound design, lighting, and cinematography are all top of its class, ESPECIALLY sound design which serves as its own character.
PLEASE stop giving David E. Kelley money to make insanely poor TV
I had so much fun watching this on imax.
I am telling you, if you go in with zero expectations and just let the movie wash over you, you'll have a great time.
Enjoy the latest installment of Jake Gyllenhaal Unhinged and have some fun
