The main character is such a bumbling dingus it's hard to take seriously. It's really awkward and clunky when characters stand around for an uncomfortable amount of time saying the same line over and over.
Great pilot. Memorable quotes. How could anyone find it boring?!
Murder by Moonlight original title
Episode titled Murdered by Moonlight
Jimmy and Paul is literally J.D. and Dr. Cox
since the episode didn't include any kind of note at the end, i want to give anyone else watching a quick reminder that those police officers did in fact speak like that to the operator and that their homophobia was not dramatized. if anything, this series has had to play down some of the details of the actual events for the sake of palatable television.
sandra smith and nicole childress were black women, konerak simthasomphone was from laos, and these officers and dahmer were white. there is a reason that konerak was brought back to dahmer's apartment that night. there's a reason those police officers didn't bother to investigate the smell of decomposition in dahmer's apartment. this was racism and homophobia, plain and simple.
"fun" fact: officer balcerzak was made president of the milwaukee police department in 2005, and retired in 2017 with full benefits and pension. the milwaukee department even posted a tweet congratulating him on his "service."
I'm all for controversy but making your audience feel guilty about watching your work might just be the worst idea that a writer/director came up with.
A shame really. As much as I loved having Natasha Lyonne back on my screen (and she looked incredible), I think Russian Doll was perfect as a one season unit. This story didn't need to be told and I don't feel it gave us anything at the end of it all.
Also really sad that all the time shenanigans meant she skipped over having those final weeks with Ruth. I know it's like that in real life sometimes though... Regretting not seeing someone after it's too late. So maybe that's the right way to do it.
Loved this episode! the London detective looks like dwight Schrute from the office lol. Plus I didn't know Columbo was such a photographer!
A landmark entry in the Columbo series, Etude in Black is a riveting crime drama. When an orchestra conductor kills his mistress for threatening to make their affair public Lt. Columbo is assigned to the case, which at first looks like an apparent suicide. The writing’s very good, and does an impressive job at building suspense and intrigue. Additionally, John Cassavetes and Blythe Danner deliver strong performances and have remarkable on-screen presences that engage the audience. And, Columbo’s famous basset hound, Dog, makes his debut appearance, which adds a nice bit of humor. Thrilling and well-crafted, Etude in Black is a captivating murder mystery.
So funny, Gwyneth Paltrow is in Blythe Danner's belly in this episode.
Incredible episode with an all-female cast (was that this is still noteworthy in 2019). The writers give an even-handed look at life for women in prison, and the corruption and abuses of power that so often occur there. One of my all-time favourite episodes.
[9.3/10] What a blast this one was! There is always a little jolt to any episode that features a villain team-up, and this one is the team-up to end all team-ups. Seeing the likes of Joker, Two-Face, Harley, Ivy, Killer Croc, The Ventriloquist, The Mad Hatter, The Scarecrow, The Riddler, and more interacting and collaborating to take down The Bat is an unmitigated treat. Just seeing Joker’s casual disregard for Croc or Harley welcoming Ivy once more is a hoot.
But this episode isn’t just fan service, nor is it just coasting on the coolness of the bad guy reunion. It’s a story with a point -- namely an exploration of whether or not Batman’s colorful rogues gallery is his own fault. There’s a really fun premise to the baddie not just trying to get back at Batman, but to put on a show, put him on trial, before they take him out and go back to their lives of crime. It’s just the sort of madness that, in a roundabout way, helps prove their point.
I also like that we have a new character who’s the focal point of that question. Janet Van Dorn really works as the fulcrum of the episode, someone who starts out believing that Batman is just as bad as the villains he fights (and maybe even the cause of them), but who comes to see that these villains made their own messes, and that Batman isn’t to blame. Giving her a legitimate character arc really helps give the episode a structure.
It’s cool to see her dressing down and pushing the buttons of so many villains. Her taking Mad Hatter to task for being a creep, tweaking Harley by pointing out Joker’s lack of loyalty, and prodding Ivy about everyone else’s casual disregard for the sanctity of plant life establishes her as sharp and effective. Her speech about seeing how all these bad guys forged their own paths, and that they’d all be up to something regardless of Batman (albeit with different gimmicks) works as a nice retort to the “Batman makes his own enemies” theme that floats around in the metatext and criticism of a lot of Batman stories.
But what follows is pretty damn good too! I love the fact that the villains basically admit that she’s right, but that if they’re so bad, they’re just going to waste her and Batman anyway. There’s a lot of cool visual moments in what ensues. The lighting and color when Van Dorn batarangs out the light just as the baddies are about to unmask our hero (a tense moment!) are superb. The little bits of red and orange lighting amid a black background look really cool. And the pendulous fight between Batman and Joker is suspenseful and climactic as well.
It also ends with a nice bit of detente. Not only does Commissioner Gordon and his crew get the criminals back in line (after some of the usual enjoyable Batman fisticfuffs). But Van Dorn and Batman see eye-to-eye, recognizing that The Bat is a force for good in Gotham, but that they’re both working toward a day when he’s no longer needed.
Overall, this one manages to balance the coolness of the villain team-up, dramatize the interesting theme of whether Batman is the cause of his own rogues gallery, and throw in some outstanding action and character work to boot. Quite a feat!
This was just enjoyable to watch. The main character was insane and unpredictable. The pace was very fast. The violent events whilst exploitation in nature always seem a bit classier as they relate to character's nature really well. Silva's role isn't too big or small and his time on screen is perfect. I watched an English dubbed version and it was fine.
That last shot.
Did Not see that coming.
This is such a weird depressing TV show.
I'm not sure I want to see a second season. Stuff happening in this show is depressing to watch. Not sure I want to go through this experience a second time.
What is this TV show trying to say? I'm not sure the showrunners themselves are not quite sure.
There are a few ok parts but for the most part not as funny as the original or Christmas.
About a 9 on the tension scale, Rube.
Best movie ever,my go to all the time
I swear this movie NEVER gets old! Right up there with The Goonies, in my opinion :)
I liked that, it was lovely and it was different, definitely drew me in from the start. I liked the idea behind it too.
Paperhouse is an amazing movie. I hope this to get a remake, even liking the simplicity of this film.
This was a surprisingly great movie.
I saw it when it was somewhat new. Back then, my brother and I would each get one rental. I picked action/spy movies, he went straight to the horror section. And Paperhouse was one he picked. Today I wouldn't call Paperhouse a horror movie, but back then it was a little scary in a couple places.
Then I got a chance to see it again, in HD as well. The first two thirds are mostly what I remember. After that was all new to me. Maybe I fell asleep the first time?
Either way, great movie. Watched it with my wife. She'd never seen it before, or heard of it. Both of us were impressed.
I want to rate it higher, but for what it was, an 8 is generous. It's more deserving of a 7 or 7.5. I guess it gets the extra point for such a unique and imaginative story.
Fun but it starts out better than it ends. The cast is perfect through-out though. Samara Weaving gives a fine wtf is going on performance while being pretty badass at the same time.
You might be disappointed if you were hoping for family members killed one by one sort of movie though. I expected the movie to be more like You’re Next for example.
It's wonderful to see how well this movie has held up, the cast is charming and the jokes are still funny.
This is so unnecessarily over the top with everything and yet still boring.
I cant believe the low score on here, this is one of the best comedies of all time, Steve Martin at his peak. Really funny throughout, I watched it last night on blu ray, first time in years and to see a film I love looking so clear and pristine was great. Kathleen Turner is fantastic as Delores. If you love comedies please give this a try.
Unnecessarily over the top action, too much macho man bullshit, and annoying editing; yeah this is a Michael Bay movie. I liked Martin Lawrence and Will Smith's chemistry but everything else is too much.
