Jesus, this movie was a hot mess. In the grand scheme of things I shouldn't have went into a movie that centres around a marriage of convenience thinking I'm going to like it cause that sort of thing is definitely not up my alley but I still had faith. I felt like the movie was all over the place and I cannot think positively of a movie that constantly throws out racist and misogynistic comments and having one of the characters saying they're allowed to say those things because they're saving people's lives. What the fuck? The songs were the thing I was looking forward to the most, I love a good musical moment in a film but other than Sofia Carson's stunning vocals the songs were just ok and overall a little bit of a let down. At the moment the movie sits in the middle for me, neither bad nor good but don't think I'll be rewatching.
I know a lot of people don't like this movie or find it mediocre at best but this had everything that I just love. I truly believe that Milly Bobby Brown is just beginning in her wonderful acting career and it is amazing to see her grow throughout her roles on screen. The costumes were delicate and intricate and very reminiscent of the period in which this was set.
Despite dragons being one of the most popular fantasy creatures it is actually hard to find a good piece of work that contains them but this had that. I will say that the film was a bit lackluster in it's first 20 minutes but truly started to ramp up and became intense and action packed. I would recommend this
I don't think this wom me over as much as everybody else but I still found it enjoyable. With their being a time jump of 1 year between every episode I did find that I had to spend a couple of minutes getting to grips with what was happening (though that is just a me thing) The flashbacks in the final episode were a really nice touch and brought a close to this love story.
I like horrors but don't usually like vampires in stories, It's because I mostly think that vampire stories are super cheesy but that's coming from the books or films I've already consumed, (Vampire Diaries, Twilight, A Discovery of Witches) This was nothing like those other vampire stories, this was dark, this was gory, this was thrilling.
Alisha Weir, (who made her film debut last year in Tim Minchin's Matilda) returns once again to a titular role. This time, as a young 12 year-old ballerina/vampire. She absolutely scared me in this film with her expressions and her breathy dialect and delivery.
When we look at the setting and the way it was filmed, the setting wasn't anything unique. An abandoned house, pretty standard for a horror film wouldn't you say? But the way it was filmed is what truly drew me in. One piece of cinematography and editing that stood out to me is the parallels between Sammy and Abigail in the dance scene in the latter half of the film. As this is showing Sammy transitioning into a vampire I love how they chose to cut between Sammy and Abigail showing what type of person Sammy was turning into.
The acting overall was quite good and actors managed to pull if an edge of mysterious. I wasn't really fussed on the acting from the guy who played Dean. I found it dry and one-dimensional, however luckily I didn't have to put up with it for that long.
My main gripe with this movie, (the reason I'm docking a star) is I felt the final ten minutes was repetitive. I swear that Abigail died at least 4 or 5 times in this short period but she just kept coming back to life. I know it's a fantasy but this gave me no real sense of urgency. However I loved how at the end of this movie they tied back in the idea of the pinky promise between Joey and Abigail to show that there is something human inside Abigail though she may often be deemed as a monster.
Overall, this is a truly thrilling watch but it's not for the faint of heart. If you want a film that may keep you up at night then Abigail is the one for you.
I put off watching this for a while because I thought that it was not my thing but ended up really enjoying it. If you're going into this show then you have to be able to lean into the slightly weird and wacky but you will often find yourself smiling or feeling emotional at the melancholic moments. The show does a beautiful job at depicting the messy lives of teenagers and the ending was absolutely phenomenal and emotional. Would recommend.
From someone who didn't find the book that amazing I thought the film was astonishing. I feel like it works so much better in this format. A beautiful and heartwarming story who totally deserved it's spot on the big screen.
Quite a mixed bag for me. I enjoyed the latter half of the movie better than the first half. I felt like the acting was decent but could have been refined and the way they handled Cassy being able to see into the future was quite jarring because of all the flashing and shaking cinematography.
In the grand scheme of things Madame Web is nothing too special, it has quite a basic storyline, somewhat decent acting, and the cinematography expelled in parts but dipped in others.
This show overall is good. As it is only 12 episodes it is quite a quick watch. It's nothing too clever or invigorating, it's just good entertainment that allows itself to be light-hearted as well as serve a slightly darker tone.
This was an interesting one to say the least. The films, when they first came out were something I really enjoyed but as I grew older I started to form a.disconnect with the films for how badly they deviated from the source material so when I knew they were making a reboot I was very excited. Do I think this did the books justice. If I'm being honest it was nowhere near however I think this show has massive potential. I am so glad that the actors were.in the correct age range for the characters and that we've got a more culturally diverse cast. I also think some of the sets were better and we had more scenes in the books that the films just ignored completely. For me I think I found it difficult because the overall tone of this series is vastly different to that of the films - I feel like the films took a darker tone whilst this stayed closer to the books by adopting a more child friendly tone which is fine because it's more true to the books but as I get older I long for a darker tone. However, that's a me thing and not fault of the show.
I found some of the acting to be majorly lacking here, although I do recognize that over half of the cast are children I feel like they could have taken longer to hone the acting and I felt like we were way too fast paced. I was also very disappointed with the way they handled medusa in this one. I thought Uma Thurman played a wonderful part in the films and it will always be a standout for that franchise but they just weren't able to replicate how great it was in the films. Overall this is ok but does have room for improvement.
What in the actual hell have I just watched.
I knew going into this that it was a musical so I was fully prepared for that and actually knew some of the songs going in. Renee Rapp reprising her role as Regina George was absolutely the right choice to make.
My main issue is that I don't think the film knew what it was trying to do, I felt like it jumped about a bit and there were a couple of different creative styles here that clashed and made a messy amalgamation
The singing was great, the choreography was unfortunately substandard and the acting was slightly cheesy. I wouldn't recommend this and personally don't think I'll rewatch this either.
Well, I've finally watched Wednesday and overall I found it to be just ok. I completely see what they were going for and I do see that a lot of my opinion on this show comes down to personal preference. There were a lot of things that they got right, the colour palette was absolutely stunning and fit the theme and I also loved the contrast between Wednesday, (black and white) and Enid, (colour) The cinematography and acting was also really good. For me, however, the storyline just wasn't engaging enough. There were elements of the story I was really invested in but then parts I just found kinda boring. I felt like Wednesday blamed everybody and suspected almost everyone of being the monster. I mean, all the characters here were morally grey which I did like however I think they tried to keep you guessing as to who the monster could be but I don't think they pulled it off in the way I was hoping.
Overall this show is ok and I will watch a second season as there is enough intrigue to keep you going, I just think it needs to step up its game in the second season
I know this show has split opinions. Some people like it, some people don't. I personally thought this was great. I am someone who has read the book and loved it so I definitely did notice the changes here however I wasn't mad about it because it made it work for TV. The actress they chose to play the older version of Marie was absolutely phenomenal and I felt like the cinematography was absolutely stunning. One of the main issues I had, (it was also an issue I had with the book) is how the timeline continuously jumps from past to present as this can take you out of the story slightly rather than further engage you. I thought the actors were brilliant, the story is simple but effective.
Overall just a really good show.
It's a shame to say that I didn't live this show as much as everybody else did. Don't get me wrong, I liked it, some of the characters were great but as an overall show it just fell kind of flat. I don't know what Catherine O Hara was attempting to do with the voice she chose to play Moira Rose with but it absolutely grated on me and quite often took me out of my enjoyment of certain episodes. I liked Alexis, David was ok at times but felt like a charicature at others. I also liked Patrick and Stevie as side characters. I felt like the ending to this show was slightly rushed and didn't feel satisfactory. Overall, this was ok, just not great.
Oh my freaking god.
I went to see this in the cinema and I kid you not, there was not a dry eye. This film is a true story following Nicholas Winton who attempted to get as many child refugees out of Prague as he could and away to safety. This film was incredibly emotional but somewhat witty in places due to the amazing acting by both Anthony Hopkins and Helena Bonham Carter. They add wit to an undoubtedly sad film. This is something that all people need to see.
This is definitely different from the type of film that I would usually watch. The film was weird but in a way it was weirdly fascinating..The performances by all the main cast were really good and to me it sort of had an 80's feel when it came to the cinematography. When it comes to giving a synopsis of Salt burn I find it quite tricky because I feel it's hard to describe it without giving major plot points away. If you like dark humour and gripping but slightly weird plots then I would recommend checking this out.
Actual Rating 6.5*
This actually ended up being quite cute. When the movie first started I was unsure but I came to love it's slightly quirky concept and the chemistry between the central characters.
In this film we follow our main character Lisa and her young daughter Ella, at the beginning of this movie Lisa meets a man who she immediately falls in love with but then soon realises that there's a catch - this man is fully convinced that Santa clause is real. This ended up being quite heartwarming but also super cringe, (even more cringe than your average Christmas movie) It's not very long with just around 90 minutes of screen time so it is quite an easy and quick watch if you are fancying a cozy afternoon inside.
This is one of those.cases where I don't really see what other people saw in this show. I liked the action sequences and the cinematography was beautiful, but the story was...boring. I don't know if it's just because it's not my usual genre, (I prefer more fantasy to sci-fi)
But looking past that I think some of the acting was borderline terrible. The series did get slightly better as it went but it was obviously cancelled so I won't ever know if the potential this show had could have eventually come to fruition because this season remains mediocre.
This was better than I was expecting it to be. I enjoyed the book when it was first released and was definitely intrigued to see what this film adaptation would do and I was pleasantly surprised. They brought the music to life so well and I thought Rachel Ziegler played a really good part here.
Personally, I do think that the movie did not need to be this long as it felt slightly long winded near the end. I also think there were a couple parts of the story that were confusing and took me out of the overall plot for a little bit.
Rating this a 10 because, honestly, how could I not. This woman performed a three hour show of some of her greatest hits without even a hint of exhaustion or lethargy. The choreography was on point, the singing was crystal clear, and the costumes were simply enchanting. If I had one criticism it would be that the film didn't contain many of the big transitions from the show. (I'm thinking of the folklore monologue), as some of these helped to add to the ambience of the show, it was still amazing though.
Timothee Chalamet absolutely won over my heart with this one. When I was growing up I loved both renditions of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory so when I heard they were making a prequel I was definitely intrigued. This was everything my heart could want and more, the songs were sombre and bittersweet - like something out of your childhood dreams. The acting was good, corny at times, but it was the sheer wittiness that gave this film its charm. I would definitely recommend checking this out.
The storyline was good but pretty basic. I think the main thing that let this down was some of the acting as it came across dry. There was one point where I thought that I was watching a show that was dubbed in English rather than a show that was filmed originally in English..
I've never been a massive fan of Robbie so I didn't really know anything about his music (apart from the odd song) or his personal life. I found this quite interesting and eye opening to see what he's been through throughout the years.
Overall, this was just okay. I see this as being a slightly better attempt at doing what Glee tried to do. The characters were good but I can't get over that this completely feeding off the high school musical name, (which I know is the point). There's so much up and coming talent here that it's exciting to see where they will go next, (like, look at what's happened for Olivia Rodrigo already!)
This was alright, season 3 was absolute trash but the rest was enjoyable just not overly amazing.
This is a show that started out as a casual watch but once I reached the 4th season I was completely hooked. This has some light-hearted moments mixed with serious topics about growing up, religion, teenage pregnancy etc. The most recent season (season 6) I was able to watch in about a week because I was so engrossed and wanted to know what would happen, definitely excited for the next season now.
I'm only rating this 8 out of 10 as the first couple of seasons were ok but I feel like this was a show that took a little while to find its feet.
To people who know me it is no surprise that Taylor is literally my favourite singer on the planet and this just showcases all the reasons why. She's got amazing star quality, impeccable vocals and penmanship to go along with that aswell. I will admit that 1989 has never been my favourite album of hers but I will admit when the music is good (and I was also here some revamped versions of some of her older songs.)
with the 1989 tour movie I am glad that we get documentary pieces to give us a bit of hindsight as to how certain songs were created. Some of the special effects in this movie were a bit jarring but overall I enjoyed it.
Before going into this, I had only ever heard the sound track, (never seen the stage version). I think this film is absolutely beautiful and it's one of those musicals where I feel like every song has its purpose and adds to the overall ambience. My main gripe with the film is that they still chose to cast Ben Platt as Evan Hansen despite him being at least a decade older than the character that he's meant to be playing. Don't get me wrong, he played the part beautifully but it bugged me. if they'd cast a good actor that was a little more age appropriate then this may have been a 10/10.
This is something that is funny and charming wrapped up in a beautiful sitcom. I loved all the characters for the most part, however some of them did end up becoming mere caricatures by the last episode, (Mani, Cam, Mitch - I'm looking at you).
The show like all sitcoms had its ups and downs but I feel that it remained solid without and it had batches of episodes that just hit one after the other. We got so many beautiful moments throughout these 11 seasons like Cam and Mitch getting married, Hayley announcing she's pregnant, Claire taking over Pritchetts closets from Jay, Lily expressing how she wants to be more like her father's (and so much more). Like all sitcoms this does have some episodes that may toe the line but it's all in the name of fun and light entertainment. This is one I will probably return to in the future.
A beautiful and intimate concert to celebrate the release of Miley's 8th album (Endless Summer Vacation) Now I would like to discuss some of the song choices. So, I am really happy that she chose to include Wonderwoman as it is one of my favourite songs off the album however I felt like there was something not right about the piano accompaniment - it sounded, dare I say, out of tune? it was.clashing with Miley's vocals in a couple of places and just didn't sound right. However Miley's vocals stunned throughout the entire performance. With this concert documentary Miley made me have a new found love for her songs Island and Wildcard as these two were songs I liked but would usually skip when listening to the album however she has made me want to go back and listen to them again.
I'm personally a bit disappointed that she didn't include a performance of, 'You,' as I also really love that song however I understood that she wasn't going to perform every song from the album and I am somewhat happy with the songs she chose.
Part of me should have suspected that she'd perform the climb despite it not being from this particular album as it is one of her most iconic songs and was a great callback to where her career all began.
Overall this was a nice watch - would recommend to anyone who likes Miley's album (Endless Summer Vacation)
This is the first mission impossible I've seen and I was actually pleasantly surprised. Nothing shocked mez the movie was corny and predictable but the actors and actresses made it lovable. They gave a decent open ending that leaves space for part two to explore more of the character dynamics. The action scenes were interesting enough, overall decent movie.
This was a decent way to end the series however I feel that it could have done better. There was hardly any spoken word in the film as they tried to pack as.many songs as they could into this final installment of the film. In my opinion the music took a step down, the choreography took a step up and the acting stayed on a level field with the rest of the trilogy.
Stand out songs:
Can I Have This Dance?
Just Wanna Be With You (Troy and Gabriella Version)
A Night To Remember
High School Musical
Tracks that fell short
The Boys Are Back
Now or Never
