This is an honest, spoiler-free review coming from your average fan (not a critic):
I just saw this new marvel film, and I have to say... it's no where near as bad as the critics make it out to be.
Yes there is a lot of dialogue. But it gives the characters a chance to shine and for scenes to breathe.
People call this film dense. I would disagree. Yes there is a fair bit of plot and history told, however I would say that other mcu films have simply much simpler plotlines most of the time.
There are moments when things are just about to become exciting, and then it is interrupted with more dialogue which instantly kills the suspension.
There are a number of plot twists in this film, and some unexpected things happen that I wouldn't have seen coming.
This film has a slow burn, but sometimes that's a good thing. Would I have liked more action? Yes. Was I unhappy with the action we do get? No.
I will admit, going into this film I was expecting a masterpiece, and while I wouldn't quite call it that, its definitely a well-made film, marvel or not.
Oh. And expect to have to do some reading at the very beginning. Kinda reminds me of a classic Star Wars opening crawl.
While I definitely liked the episode, it felt more like a Mandalorian episode rather than a Book of Boba Fett one. That's really my biggest complaint. The show is literally meant to be about Boba Fett, but we don't see him once this episode. Kinda weird and it disrupts the entire tone of the show.
Approaching this as more of a Mandalorian episode rather then a Boba Fett one, I really liked how Din doesn't seem to really fit in with the strict ideals and traditions of the Children of the Watch anymore. He's growing as a person and now that he's been cast out of the covert, he is free to live his life without feeling the constant fear of others seeing his face.
Seeing a Naboo Royal Starfighter was cool. Also Din training with the Darksaber gives me Rebels vibes.
Overall a very entertaining episode with some added bits of lore, like what happened on the Night of a Thousand Tears. It seemed to be hinting that Din will visit Grogu and Luke before he teams up with Boba and Fennec, but I don't want Din to become the main focus for the rest of the show, considering he'll have all the focus in season 3 of The Mandalorian.
Wow. I don't know what it was exactly, but that episode hit me in the feels.
Something about seeing Boba go through the tribe's rite of passage was extremely mesmerising and powerful to me.
While I would like to give this episode a 10/10, the whole present-day stuff still really isn't doing anything for me right now. I'm a lot more invested in his bacta flashbacks with the Tuskens.
I guess that stuff is just kinda uninteresting to me currently in the series. I'm waiting for some serious sh*t to go down.
I'm really liking where this show is going. Looking forward to next week.
Side Note: Tatooine was once a water planet?! No way!!
Wow. One of the strongest episodes yet. Every scene felt tense and powerful. This show is revolutionalising Star Wars
A horny cartoon A.I.
Now I've seen it all.
A much more enjoyable episode again this week. Seeing the connection to the Mandalorian was great and it was interesting to see how Boba saved Fennec's life.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. The flashbacks are the juicy story elements for me every time. When the episode focuses more on the flashbacks I find myself enjoying the show a lot more. The present-day plot is sooooooooo slow to the point where I think every episode except for maybe episodes 6 and 7 will continue to just be setups for the "final battle" where all hell will break loose.
Also I'm hyped to see Din Djarin next episode. That Mandalorian theme was a dead giveaway!
Hell yeah! Yelena's back baby!
According to manga readers, this is where the real story starts.
Wow. Just wow. 10/10
How exactly do they plan to conclude all these plot points in one more episode?!?
I've loved this season, but this feels like it needs another 5 episodes at least!
Jesse's house is FILTHY
Crosshair and Omega's moments are really carrying this season for me
Was awesome to see all the OG's back together again, but this time fighting for the same cause
Rod Reiss is the most disgusting titan ever
[9/10]
Wow. This finale is shaping up to be something great. Crosshair's inner confliction and longing to be reunited with his squad was a highlight of this episode.
And damn, did I nearly tear up in the final scene. Seeing all those empty rooms in Tipoca City along with the music hit me in the feels. And then, it's all just... obliterated. Erased and destroyed. The Empire's destruction of Tipoca City signalled the end of the clone era for good. The end of a childhood memory, watching the humble beginnings of Domino Squad in The Clone Wars.
No idea where they'll go from here, but I'm looking forward to Part 2 next week. Hopefully this season ends on a strong note.
Phenomonal episode. Absolutely brilliant. Stakes have never been higher.
Weird ass episode. The tonal whiplash between Yuri's side story and the other mini segments was kinda odd. Felt like a filler episode for sure
Charming little story with some nice moments. Pretty cliche story other than that. Art style was pretty great.
Solid episode. First time they seem to have found a way to include a balance of Crosshair's and The Bad Batch's plots this season without a jarring shift in tone. Also my boi Howzer is back lets go!
Okay. I honestly don't know how to rate this episode. It was amazing, but at the same time, cemented for me the fact that this show has lost its true identity. What even is this show anymore? The Book of Boba Fett? Or The Mandalorian Season 3?
I don't like focusing on the negatives, because just like the last episode the content within the episode was amazing. It's more about how these last two episodes have contributed barely anything to the show at large. I just don't understand why they didn't leave this stuff for the actual third season of The Mandalorian???
Negatives out of the way, lets talk about the positives. And trust me, there are a LOT.
Dave Filoni directed this episode, and you can tell because so many things happen that reward the Clone Wars fans.
Firstly, Cobb Vanth makes a return which was awesome to see, and it got me super excited for him to hopefully team up with Boba.
Next, R2, Luke and Grogu all made appearances and I couldn't stop smiling. Seeing Luke training Grogu just like Yoda did with him was so fun to watch, and was a clear homage to the training scenes on Dagobah in The Empire Strikes Back. And can I just say, Luke looks REALLY GOOD. Like REALLY REALLY GOOD. Compare him here to back in the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian and BOY does it look so much more obviously CGI back then. Great to see that using CGI and digital voice rendering is a feasable option going forward for Luke in the future. All the moments with Grogu were great and made me realise how much I missed seeing him.
Oh, and did I forget to say ORDER 66 FLASHBACKS WITH GROGU!!!! Finally we get to see Clones in live-action again since 2005!
Then, while Din is waiting, who comes out of the trees? AHSOKA FREAKING TANO. My first thoughts were LUKE AND AHSOKA HAVE MET and while some part of me was disappointed we never got to see that first interaction between them, when Ahsoka said to Luke "You remind me of your father" I FREAKED OUT. I've been waiting for the day the two of them talk with each other for soooooooo long!
Then, just when I thought Filoni had finished blowing my mind, we get the legend himself, the deadly, the badass cowboy hat bounty hunter CAD BANE. Like I was jumping out of my seat when I saw him walking towards Cobb Vanth in the distance of Tatooine. And honestly, they did a really good job of transitioning the character to live-action. Very impressed.
And then Bane kills Cobb and I stared in utter shock.
I have to say though, I had predicted that Cad Bane would be working for the Pyke Syndicate if he did make for an appearance. That was the only way that made sense to me. So I'm glad I was right.
So while this episode had me riding on high after high, it also made me question what the actual goal of this show even is anymore. For that reason, it gets a solid 9/10 for me. If this was The Mandalorian Season 3, then I would've given it a 10/10. But I choose to rate episodes based on not just the events that occured in the episode itself, but also how it relates to the overarching plot of the whole show.
Another filler episode, but wasn't as boring as some. There were some good character moments, especially for Tech
Loved this episode. Only wish the CGI was better.
[5/10] Sad to say this cause I hate the word filler, but this was a filler episode through and through. Quite disappointing for so late in the season.
Back to the good Marvel shit
Right before Kendall left his father he kissed him on the cheek. This was poetic as it represented the kiss of Judas - an act of betrayel under the veil of friendship. Kendall essentially made up his mind in that moment that he would betray his father after the cold treatment and lack of love Logan gave him in that last moment.
This show is getting better and better each season. I'm excited to see where season 3 goes!
Improvement over the first two episodes, however it felt way too short. They finally got the pacing right this episode but told the same amount of story as the previous episodes did in about half the runtime. Hopefully future episodes are more like this one in pacing but longer.
TEN OUT OF TEN. PEAK FICTION.
Animation had Clone Wars-style models with a more unreal engine movement to them. It looked good, but the story was very cliche again and voice acting was average.
Absolutely love the art style of this one. Story could've had a bit more work but animation, music and voice acting were on point.
A fun, action-packed animated film with some timeless themes and life lessons thrown in. A bit too goofy at times and the comedy didn't always land, but was still an entertaining watch.
The best parts for me were the words of wisdom from Master Oogway. There were so many great quotes. That alone made the movie worth the watch.
