The Father

What a fantastic movie, that will stay with you for days, weeks months afterwards, yes the performances by the cast are fantastic, Hopkins giving a performance to even rival Hannibal Lector, however for me the direction, editing and stage production all make this movie. If you dont cry at that ending you have a heart of stone! Will be my film of the year"!

Palm Springs

Great take on the 'groundhog day' movie, Samberg is perfectly cast in this role, and has a great on screen chemistry with Cristin Milioti, they built the story and the mythos really well in a tight movie, i went into this movie not knowing of the premise and that opening caught me off guard, absolutely loved it!

Battle: Los Angeles

Great movie, showing from Marines point of view what an alien invasion would be like, we have had the scientist version done to death, and loved that this had the look and feel of films like Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down, I personally would have loved a franchise of these movies......Battle:New York, Battle:London!

Really funny film, love the shift in tone towards the end of the movie. The cinematography is stunning, the colour palate is amazing, every shot is really exceptional. I couldnt concentrate on the cable car scene as i just wanted to look out over New Mexico, fantastic film.

"It's Saint Patrick's day. Here in Scranton, St. Patty's day is a big deal. It is the closest the Irish will ever have to Christmas." My favourite Michael Scott line!

Lucy in the Sky

I can't believe all the negative revies, you have to buy in to the visual narrative style of Noah Hawley, but its stunning, and tells a great stoy of how small the wold would feel once you have witnessed the Earth from space. I had been looking forward to this movie for months, and when I went along I was the only person in the cinema! I loved it though

Terminator: Dark Fate

I was realy excited to see Tim Miller's take on The Terminator franchise, and with Cameron Hamilton and Arnie all back, with the addition of Mackenzie Davis this was something to get really excited about, however just felt like a paint by numbers excercise, scenes were ticked off and no real thrill, if only Arnie had put on those glasses! I had a real feeling of 'What was the point' after leaving the cinema! This didnt try to do aything new at all, or add to the franchise.

Animal House

An absolute classic. John Belushi is genius in this movie, breaking the 4th Wall decades before Deadpool! The cafeteria scene was totally improvised and just shows how incredibly funny this guy was. The directorial debut of John Landis, with Ivan Reitman producing and written by Harold Ramis, you have a wealth of talent.

The Orville: 2x11 Lasting Impressions

Strongest episode of the series so far, even without space battles, this really said alot in one little episode and was beautifuly acted. The Orville has really grown into its own show now.

Derry Girls: 1x06 Episode 6

Rewatched this fantastic series before the start of season 2, they save the best to last! I love he bookending of the whole series, the dry humour of the opening of episode 1, when the bomb is on the bridge and how they see this affecting their every day lives, then juxtaposed with the ending of this episode, which for me is right up there with the poignant ending of Blackadder season 4, just an outstanding series, and cannot wait for more of the girls!

I really enjoyed this movie, like other comments I cam into this thinking it would be a light quirky rom com, but it shifts to a much darker movie about, I loved the shift, for me Sudeikis is fantastic, best I have seen him in anything.

Strong episode, but really let down by the last 20 minutes, when the reveal had been revealed in the trailer after the first episode. There was no shock here, lets hope we get alot more next week.

The Man with Two Brains

I cant believe the low score on here, this is one of the best comedies of all time, Steve Martin at his peak. Really funny throughout, I watched it last night on blu ray, first time in years and to see a film I love looking so clear and pristine was great. Kathleen Turner is fantastic as Delores. If you love comedies please give this a try.

Heathers

I love this movie, hadnt watched it in years, but I was 16 when it was first released. Far better than the sarcastic teen high school comedies that would follow, very dark humour, that works so well. Very quotable lines in the dialogue, always will be a top movie for me.

Airplane!

Why cant parodies be done like this now?

So many gags, the choice of actors is fantastic, its hard to believe now that this was Leslie Neilson's first ever comic role, but all the actors here were chosen because they always played it straight and that just adds to the comedy. Simply one of the best comedies of all time.

The Matrix

Had a rewatch of this last night, it has never lost its impact. So stylish, its influenced so many films over the last 17 years and will go on to do so, its definitely a film that made the 21st Century. The cast is perfect, when you read some of the names that turned down the roles originally, I am so glad they did, I cant imagine anyone else on these roles now. The influences from Baudrillard to the Bible all littered throughout, so many layers to this perfect story, and again the look of the film is fantastic. An absolute 10! Watch it!!

The Magnificent Seven

I loved this film, one of the best of the year. Fuqua delivers the expanse of the old school western, assembles a team that are interesting and entertaining, and all fight for screen time, never bored when any of them are on screen. The action is great, and the pacing of the movie is spot on. Another winner from Fuqua and Washington. I love how the original score doesn't play until the end credits.....at which point it feels it has earned the right to play it.
