The First Omen

When you respect a franchise with great affection, you can do masterful things like this. Arkasha Stevenson's film debut couldn't be better. Classic religious horror, but not outdated at all, with a solid plot, excellent cinematography and some extremely disturbing scenes that keep the viewer uncomfortable but without blinking. And what can we say about a Nell Tiger Free who has a very high score, in a genre in which she evidently performs with great ease. The film, although not perfect, adds quality to the saga, unlike other recent films in other franchises that disrespect the original material.

Poor Things

"Poor Things" reminds us, that there's still old school cinema that can provoke us. It deprives us of all the generic BS that Hollywood gives us lately telling us a great story with stunning visuals, and of course a superb acting by Emma Stone. Bravo!

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters: 1x10 Beyond Logic

Well, although the whole season was with ups and downs, more downs to be honest, that ending is worth my attention. I'm not that much into the monsterverse, but now I'm hyping for the Godzilla vs Kong next movie.

Americans saying that "original" was better than this one. Little do they know that "Alive" wasn't the first film about this accident. Actually, a mexican movie released in 1976 was the first one ever made and it wasn't bad at all.

Yes, this version is slow paced and with less action than previous movies, specially the american one, but technically and emotionally is way above the first two movies. J. A. Bayona goes deeper in the emotional part of each character, this time, using the real names of the survivors, besides, it was filmed in part in the same spot where the accident took place. Hey, we even have cameos of some of the survivors.

Sorry, but people saying this "remake" is bad, is just lazy people that don't like to read subtitles. This movie will be nominated for an Oscar, I can tell you that.

Saltburn

Weird, grotesque at times, and with a brilliant plot twist at the end. Not that we, the viewers, didn't see it coming, but it's just very well made.

If you only care about an ending, maybe you should watch some other kind of cinema. There are plenty of choices for you.

If you care about a great script, superb cast and acting, beautiful camera work, intriguing plot, a tension feeling without really knowing what's happening kind of movie, well, this one is for you.

Sam Esmail has delivered a great work here. It ticks all the boxes that you could expect from him.

An ending like this one, is very subjective, but it works perfectly for me. It just feels right. We found out what was really happening, and Esmail put it in a clever and kind of funny way.

Read the synopsis and don't watch the trailer, the less you know about the plot, the better you enjoy it. I loved it.

A completely different take on possession. Avoiding all the stupid cliches from American movies, director Demián Rugna takes a gruesome, intelligent, and shocking route that makes the movie one of the most original horror films I've watched in a long time. The third act slows things a little more than I would wanted, but the end leaves you satisfied and devastated.

Without a doubt, this IS the movie you should watch in October 2023 instead of the megahyped Exorcist secuel.

The Wailing

Cryptic and full of religious mythology. Long movie but never boring. Not for everyone though.

Fair Play

Have you ever wondered what could happen in your relationship if both are working in the same company and not being able to tell anyone because of company policies and one of you getting promoted? This movie gives you a glimpse of one of the possible scenarios. A wild ride! It certainly isn't a perfect film, but it's interesting as hell. Great performances from the leading actors.

DF! What the hell was that? 29 minutes runtime was a warning, and after the last episode, I should've imagined what crap was going to be this season finale. Have the show runners never learned the lesson? You just can't leave the audience with a season finale so vague. You don't even know if there will be a season 2. Don't give us that!!! Just don't!

The Exorcist: Believer

Geez! Where do I start? The first and second act are fair, possession is fast, and in those 48 hours it has those creepy vibes that reminded me lightly to the original movie. Leslie Odom Jr acting is the only thing that holds everything together, but oh boy, the third act is just bad bad bad. The moment Ellen Burstyn comes unnecessary to scene everything goes way down fast. No character development, a priest that I didn't even know his name, and that stupid idea about getting together a kind of League of Justice/Avenger exorcists tag team is ridiculous and idiotic. I'm sure William Friedkin is rolling on his grave. A trilogy? Please no. Leave The Exorcist franchise alone once and for all!

P.s. Did anyone timed how many minutes does Ellen Burstyn appears on screen? What a waste of talent to just bring her for such a mediocre and bad written part.

To Catch a Killer

As far as I can read, the mixed reviews are because of the "woke and political agenda" for some viewers, probably Americans. No surprise there.

This is a really good police thriller with great cinematography, so so acting, and very entertaining. Yes it's a slow burner with occasional good action sequences. If that's not enough, and if you need more action, maybe you should choose some Jason Statham or Vin Diesel movies, you'll satisfy your needs there.

Why Shailene Woodley? Well, she's the film producer, so that's why. She's not great, but also not bad at all. And Mendelsohn is perfect as always, good casting there.

I know this movie doesn't bring anything new to the genre, but it's definitely a very entertaining "catch a killer" drama and worth watching

The Changeling: 1x07 Stormy Weather

Confusing to say the least. And quite boring. This is a complete filler before season finale. Yes Adina Porter acting is superb, but quite unnecessary for the whole plot. It's almost 57 minutes of a monologue.

Rotting in the Sun

Whoa! A bizarre movie. Not bad at all, just bizarre. A low budget film that maybe fits in the dark comedy genre. A movie that you think is going one way but a major plot twist suddenly turns things over. It's important to mention that it's very NC-17 classification, with explicit gay sex scenes, so if you're uncomfortable with that, maybe you should avoid it.

No One Will Save You

Home invasion + Aliens. One of the best alien movies I've watched in many years. It isn't afraid since the beginning of the movie of showing us directly what it's all about. The ending is cryptic and I like that. There are only three words in the whole movie leaving the lead actress with the heavy load of keeping our attention with a great performance using only her facial expressions.

Love at First Sight

I really don't get all the hype with this one. It's a generic rom-com with all the traditional cliches. I mean, it's not terrible, but I guess it would be a great fit with the ones in Hallmark or Lifetime. If you want a traditional corny rom-com, you certainly will be delighted. Nothing less, nothing more.

Past Lives

I'm not a romance genre fan, but when a movie is so well done in every aspect it's impossible not to like it. Great story, great acting, great cinematography and beautiful dialogues. It's a movie that will let you think many aspects of your past, present, and future life. Great debut from Celine Song, and I can't wait for her next film. I cried at the end, that's all I will say.

Palm Springs

I'm not very into rom-coms, but this one really got me. Great chemistry between the two, and of course you can't never go wrong with J.K. Simmons. This rom-com is kind of out of the typical and ordinary movies in that genre. I really enjoyed it.

Speak No Evil

For me, a horror movie meets its purpose when it makes you feel something in your gut, in this case, it made me feel quite an uncomfortable feeling. Bad decisions have bad consequences. Very well acted, and while it's a slow burn on the first act, you'll get your reward on the end of the second act, and definitely on the third and shocking act. Quite unsettling movie, but I loved it.

If you're a fan of Wes Anderson movies, although with all its characteristic style, it's not as good as his other films. If you're not a fan of Wes Anderson, avoid like the plague, you'll definitely will hate this movie.

From: Season 2

It's unbelievable how showrunners threw this season to the trash. It's slow, really really slow, nothing happens. Seven espisodes so far and there are more questions than answers. This is not a horror show anymore. It's quiet boring to be honest.

Soft & Quiet

OMG! Although uncomfortable, unpleasant, this is a great movie. This is that kind of movie where a bad decision escalates until the point of no return. Camera work is outstanding in a style that seems like a single shot and gives to the movie that frantic feeling. The overall story seems like way too much but I'm certain that these kind of things actually happen in real life as twisted as it seems. A must watch if you're into home invasion genre.

The Whale

As with most of his movies, Darren Aronofsky make his protagonist and spectators suffer as much as they can. The movie tone is always dark and sad, but at the end there is some kind of redemption, and that's the moment that we as spectators have the reward after feeling miserable for the last 110 minutes. A though pill to swallow, but an excellent movie overall. Acting is superb here.

Women Talking

Great performances, and a good statement, I can't argue that. But overall is dull and boring, it literally is women talking the whole time. It's those films that want so hard to have an Oscar, and it probably will have one. A good movie to the critics and the Academy members, but not my taste.

The Evil Dead

Being a low budget movie with limited resources is no excuse to make it a cult movie. The movie is just bad. Bad acting, bad fx, bad audio, it's just stupid. I've watched low budget movies much better made that this crap. I really can't understand why this movie is so loved. I get that it brings good memories from old times, but even that doesn't make movie a cult movie.
