My major problem with this film is that I really enjoyed about 70% of it, before they started making up endings. A lot of people are afraid to admit this.
Having said that, it was gorgeously shot and captivating and that’s why it felt like such a let down when all 4 endings were crap.
Ending 1 (the first twist with his family on his birthday) just invalidated the first 80 minutes of the film entirely and every emotion he felt up until then.
Ending 2 (what happened after the party) was just a bit stupid. The drone shot after it was great though.
Ending 3 in the coffee shop was when it really started going off the rails.
And Ending 4, just a completely mental reshoot.
Seriously absolutely terrible unwatchable crap. Though I did watch through to the end somehow.
This season was... Not good. A mess. Just a mishmash of red herrings and misdirections that mostly didn't pay off in the end. If you're on the fence about watching this season, save yourself some time and annoyance, and DON'T.
With all the talk of the sex in this movie I was surprised it isn’t a porno. I like that it got weird just wish it was weirder
"The thin man wasn't hungry today."
"Perhaps that is why a man is thin."
- Jorah throwing the spear OMG. He definitely redeemed himself.
- Man I hate those stupid golden masks
- Just occurred to me that there's definitely lots of Daenerys and Missandei fanfic out there
- The whole dragon sequence was unreal
Saltburn is well worth watching. The story was excellent and the performances were captivating; at times I found it hard to look away.
My only gripe would be that Oliver got off too easily. There would definitely have been an investigation after each death, and he would have been a prime suspect. Other than that, it was a great film: 7/10.
The most A24 non-A24 movie I've ever seen.
Sexy nonsense. I liked it.
It's one of those films where it could truly go either way on a rewatch - I could see myself both hating this film or loving this film in the future. But for now I'll sip my coffee and enjoy the protests of the rest of y'all.
"We survey these ruins with a heartfelt gaze, certain the old monster lies crushed beneath the rubble. We pretend to regain hope as the image recedes, as though we've been cured of that plague. We tell ourselves it was all confined to one country, one point in time. We turn a blind eye to what surrounds us and a deaf ear to the never-ending cries.."
Being a reader is more often than not a curse when it comes to films based on well known, and loved, books. But not this time...
I've said it before, and I can certainly say it again... Denis Villeneuve is one of the best visual story tellers of our time, and I'm ready to fight anyone who says differently... Especially when he also respects the source material, and is not trying to make it "better".
Dune: Part Two is some of the most spectacular filmmaking I have ever seen, and you really have to see it to believe it. Every scene... Every damn scene... both lighting and framing... Absolute Perfection!!!
I really need to see this again... soon...
"I don't have a clear shot." Have you tried moving a few meters to the right?
My attention span has been quite awful lately, but this movie, it made me freeze in front of the screen. It is twisted and odd, but stunning at the same time. The way it made me feel is hard to describe, but it made me feel things for sure. I'd recommend it.
loved how it was put together and that it gave plenty of background and context throughout in smaller details. was not as crazy as the internet made it seem, but everything was definitely crazy.. some plots were a bit predictable but still had me questioning myself.
This was really good... odd at times, but very good.
The graveyard 'sex scene' was stupid, unnecessary and could have been removed, but everything else was good. Nice sorta twist at the end. Good soundtrack too
9.5/10
Black Panther is a whole lot better than Avatar 2009
Black Panther provides a stunning image of what a prosperous Africa could look like. This is Marvel at its absolute best.
A bit sad for George on that one, trying to fight his demons and having a shitty night
Reality takes you inside the true story of Reality Winner, a young woman who leaked classified information from the NSA, the US government's National Security Agency, the same place where Edward Snowden worked. :flag_us:
I really liked the mix of documentary drama, it gave the film a really good taste, especially when images and speeches from the real testimony are inserted. I love movies based on facts. They touch me much more.
The film is slow and full of dialogues that make you think about what happened there. So, if this is not your style of film, better skip it.
But Sydney Sweeney's performance will make you want to watch, she is impeccable in the lead role, capturing the strength and fragility of Reality, a woman who fought for the truth, even if it meant sacrificing her freedom.
P.S.: I don't have a background in cinema, my opinion is moved by affection
This series is just brilliant television. Gillian sparkles, bristles and is utterly radiant as she puts in another amazing performance. Colin too is quite disturbing as he glides through his double life. It is just so welcome and fresh, to have this set in a different location, with a relatively young cast. The tension is managed well and this is just great television even today.
It is so absurd in all its development that in the end we only have to surrender to a plot full of inconsistencies and situations (from police officers who leave their computers on, while they talk to a journalist, to CIA agents who don't know where the Chinese Embassy in London is). With Richard Armitage comfortable in his prestige roles for mediocre English dramas, the show ends up being as intense as Hijack (Apple tv+, 2023) was, and is a silly entertainment to while away the afternoon without thinking too much about all the silly things happening on screen. It's the perfect show to binge and end up forgetting about in a matter of minutes.
Big day for bisexuals :heartpulse::purple_heart::blue_heart:
Moving to ABC was the best thing to happen to this show and I can't wait to see how the rest of this season turns out
I'm not gonna say this movie gave me a headache but I did get the worst tension headache I've had in a while during this movie.
I don't remember the dialogue being this cringey in the book so I don't know what that's all about but it was Bad with a capital B. I also don't believe for a second that these two love each other. I like hot people as much as the next person but please bring back chemistry tests. I don't even care if they're ugly just make me believe they want each other please i beg.
There's also the god awful acting, not to mention Uma Thurman's accent???
The soundtrack kind off fucked severely though, in a semi-ironic way.
[Cannes '24] One of the most interesting elements of this proposal is the way in which the protagonist constantly uses lies, so that his reality is not a heroic story of violence and survival (it is, but not in the sense that immigration policies demand). The film takes place in the two days prior to the interview at the OFPRA that could change Souleymane's life, turned into a hell against the clock that adopts the rhythm of a frenetic thriller that runs through the streets of Paris as a permanently hostile environment. Using the simplicity of the narrative approach, the direction reinforces the oppressive nature of which the protagonist is a victim. And the final twenty minutes demonstrate a surprising emotional projection in debutant Abou Sangare.
[Cannes '24] Through the relationship between Ronaldo, a forty-year-old prostitute, and Baby, an eighteen-year-old boy who has just been released from a youth detention center, the film speaks of freedom in its broadest sense, surrounding the characters with the sound of a big city like São Paulo. It is also a representation of the diversity of family dynamics, the one that surrounds Ronaldo, that of Baby's friends who practice voguing, or the biological family that abandoned him when he was arrested. There is in the reflection of the great city that is always in motion, a sensuality that is also shown in the approach of the camera to the faces and bodies, and the influences of Wong Kar-Wai's cinema seem evident.
[SkyShowtime] The closing film of the Venice Film Festival was an icy (not only because of the Norwegian landscapes) version of a Jo Nesbø novel that, despite an interesting cast, fails to decipher the characters, wrapped in a kind of fatality tragic that is described with little emotion. There's excellent cinematography by Nicolai Brüel and a suitably dramatic soundtrack by Andrea Ferri, but the film is shrouded in an emotional haze, an inability to convey pain and trauma, which ends up disappointing for a story that offered more possibilities for develop really complex characters.
Shallow. Problematic consent. Zero chemistry. Confuses lust with true romantic connection. A missed opportunity.
Got to love Hollywood not only did everybody rally on the pedophiles side but the guy still gets a movie credit for the fuckin documentary about him. WTF???
Holy shit. What an absolutely shitty thing to do to a person and his family. I feel sorry for Drake and his father. His father sounded like such a good person. Huge respect for drake coming forward and telling his story, I can only imagine how hard it was.
Horrible stuff to listen to, a lot of respect for Drake.
