The Dark Tower

Nowhere near as bad as everyone seemed to be saying on release, actually enjoyed it and would watch a follow-up.. No, I've never read the books, but I now have a taste of The Dark Tower, so I might track them down and give them a go. It's worth a view if you, like me, have avoided it for a long time?

Monkey Man

Enjoyable action flick.. felt like two different movies with the first hour setting things up, which, to be honest, was a little slow but really increased the pace in hour 2. The action was enjoyable even though at times I couldn't make out who was hitting who?. I know it's Dev Patels first movie as director and he has done an incredible job, its exciting to see what's next. Good movie and well worth a 2nd watch when it's on streaming.

The First Omen

Nell Tiger Free is excellent in this movie. She plays confusion and ànguish drawing you further into the story. The tone of the movie is perfect and links well directly to the original movie. There are some homages to the original movie that do feel a little unnecessary, but this does not detract overall.
I really enjoyed this film as a fan of the original and will recommend it as an extension to the original narrative and story. Go see it.

Civil War

Thought provoking movie which could in the main part be classed as quite realistic in our current world. The feeling for me within the movie was "tense" which it maintains throughout - there are certain parts which increased my personally anxiety which i believe is what the director and team were aiming for. The violence is quite a challenge at times but at no point is it violence for the sake of it, with it always serving to further the narrative.
Overall i would recommend, worth watching at a decent cinema as visuals and score are excellent.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

I wanted to love it but ended up just liking it.. which is fine, I suppose.
Paul Rudd is dependable when it comes to laughs, and the story makes good use of the original characters, but the movie is a little slow at times.
It perfectly sets up for future movies, which I'm fine with.
It's worth a watch, but it's sadly no classic.

Road House

Love the original, so I didn't think I would like this at all.... but I did! Different enough to not offend me and funny enough to keep me into it until the end. As a UFC fan, I do not like Conor Mcgregor, but I have to say he made me laugh at times. He is a caricature. Try it.... you might like it!!

Promising Young Woman

Really unpredictable movie with twists and turns enough for whiplash... performances are great and direction is on point. Loved the end... no spoilers

Watched tonight on the big screen for the first time, and it really didn't let me down. Big ideas that make you think, great performances and visuals. A classic in every sense.

Gattaca

Enjoyable Sci fi, with great cast. Even though over 25 years old, it still looks great and has aged well. In my view, it's not an absolute classic but an enjoyable watch.

Whys everyone hating on this film so much?? Sure its no Endgame but it's a fun popcorn movie as its meant to be. Doubt I'll ever watch it again, but it's no worse than many other recent Marvel movies. Don't be afraid just watch and judge for yourself.

American Fiction

Fantastic movie, which is a commentary on an industry that portrays a continuous stereotype. Funny, laugh out moments. Really enjoyed is an easy recommend.

Didn't fancy this when it was at the cinema, but after watching, I now regret not seeing it on the big screen. Really enjoyed it. It is a bit weird, but it really works. Reminded me a bit of The Talented Mr Riplety but not in any kind of specific way. Highly recommended by me.

The Iron Claw

What a great story! I've never really been a wrestling fan but I can remember the boom of interest in the 80s an remembered some of the character names. Zac Efron is brilliant in this role and has completely transformed to portray his character. A really enjoyable film with great acting and direction, impressed.

tick, tick... BOOM!

A fairly low score because it just didn't connect for me, i can respect AG performance and the commitment, but.. not for me.

Leave the World Behind

I'm sure this will not be for everyone and had some reservations going in after hearing mixed reviews, but I loved it.
Sam Esmail always appeals, and his stories are always on a grand scale, this is no different.. but it's not for everyone.

Ferrari

Enjoyed the movie overall, I am an avid motor racing fan so was familiar with some elements but found enough new information to fully hold my attention. The poor italian accents were a little distracting, but nothing I couldn't get past. It's not the best movie, but it's certainly not too bad.

Loved it, it shows how life takes unexpected turns and can change through inconsequential interactions. I think this will be a regular rewatch in the future.

Poor Things

From the start, the crazy story begins and you feel entranced, wanting to understand where it will take you. Enjoyed this from beginning to end. Watching at the cinema was great with some truly laugh out load moments. Emma Stone is great but so ate many other actors throughout. I can only recommend it.
