Sally decides she wants a baby, but Billy has other plans. Anna pretends to be single in order to impress a potential investor. Beth reminds an elderly patient of her dead sister, and her efforts to help the lady land her in grave danger.
Ozias Harding has Alan fired from the factory. Luke has an almost fatal accident while playing rugby. Beth takes the children of Skelthwaite moon catching when the organiser has an accident.
Karen's happiness at finding her son begins to fade when she discovers his dark secret. Beth tries to force Tom into proposing by making him jealous. Sally ruffles the feathers of the local hairdresser who she suspects is hiding a serious illness. Sally is upset to discover that her son wants to leave Skelthwaite.
Beth is fed up with Tom being too overprotective. Anna is torn between saving the factory and remaining loyal to her friends. Luke returns home from hospital but his attitude towards David has changed. Feeling neglected by Nathan, Alice flirts with Joe. Nathan and Joe discover that Alice has been two-timing them. Harding accuses Raggy of biting him. Alan wins a competition. Billy and Sally's marriage is put under pressure when a patient's wife accuses Sally of having an affair with her husband.
Ozias suffers from a cerebral aneurysm, but before being admitted to hospital, he tries to ruin the factory once and for all. Nathan and Joe fight over Alice. Beth takes the local widows on an away day - but her waters break half way through the journey.
Skelthwaite prepares for the summer fete. David inherits some money and wants to invest in Anna's house. Anna just wants a holiday. Luke stands for the first time. Sally and Billy decide to foster a child. The nurses help Jemma, a foster mother who is struggling to cope with her foster son returning to his natural mother.
