At this point in my first watch of Season 9, almost nothing is clicking with me. The super-soldier, alien mythology is an absolute drag. Scully's character is either catered to completely (mythology episodes) or shoe-horned in so as not to forget she's still on the show. Reyes seems ditzy because they always fall back on some sort of magical power she seems to have. It appears they were attempting to make her special abilities to be part of a new direction for the show. The only character that works overall is Doggett, although his stubborn cynicism is getting to the point of ignorance on his part. The strangest possible explanation for an X-File is always the right answer. You'd think he'd catch on. But I get it, the show needs conflict for anything to work.
"Hellbound" is particularly grizzly. The killer-that-keeps-coming-back plotline is not unlike "Squeeze" in that regard. "Hellbound" is a little confusing, though. It tries to wedge Reyes into this cycle of revenge killings and it makes little sense. I rated it higher because it doesn't touch the dismal super-soldier story arc.
