Good episode! Jay Underwood is in this one (I recall him from the Not Quite Human movies). Now we see the strength the Doggett character (great actor by Robert Patrick), and some insight on his backstory. I also liked that moment at the end there with Mulder and Skully. "Gift of courage.. (to believe)"
I liked the scene where Mulder and Doggett finally talked a bit about believing and seeing and it seems like Doggett is opening himself at least a tiny little bit. Other than that the episode was pretty boring.
This episode had strong elements. Unfortunately, these aspects of the show were undermined by poor writing, a character not being themselves (Mulder), and an actor being outclassed in every way (despite upping their game, they remain far off the mark). Oh, and that awful inconclusive ending (among so many other things).
Doggett struggles with the loss of his son with Reyes pushing him to look inside for answers. Mulder gets caught in the crossfire between the two of them. Scully plays Yoda from her hospital bed.
The opening is a neat scene of a person in flames walking menacingly out of a car crash. Mulder's has a neat monologue about 2/3rds of the way through when he theorizes to Doggett about how Evil can be suppressed by some but others are not as immune to it and act out the evil.
Secondary characters in this episode: Reyes
