The X-Files: Season 4

4x13 Never Again

It was "nice" to see a Scully-centric episode focused on her vulnerability.

After the whole "who wears the big pants here" discussion in the beginning of the episode I thought this episode was gonna be interesting, but it turned out to be much less than what I expected. It's an okay episode nonetheless.

It's a pity the case-of-the-week wasn't better because the secondary element of Mulder and Scully's relationship becoming strained was really good and the episode overall was well acted. I can't believe they got Jodie Foster in for such a weak story; I wonder if she was a fan of the show and was happy to be in any episode.

Takeaway: Agent Starling created Bill.

Oi vey. This episode was challenging to sit through. So much cringe and awful packed into 40 minutes. Other writers must have thought so, too, as what happens in this episode was rinsed away with the morning dew. This was painful. Why? It isn't fair to ask an audience you've no respect for to respect your show. The writers seem to dislike their characters and coherence, but do enjoy going against character, history and failing to have one's ergot and eat it, too.

All this typed, the episode contains a number of nice moments. Several shots are nice, as were a few scenes and the close. This episode is an odd duck for the series. It's also another episode that has nothing to do with the alleged paranormal. As an aside, please note that at this point a veritable library of paranormal happenings are canon. This includes a number of conflicting belief systems, monsters and little green men, among others.

Such a weird episode, they turn Scully into just another dumb skank. I thought (hoped) she was being mind controlled. And what, she had a bunch of "sugar daddies" when she was young too? "Not everything is about you Mulder" Blah blah blah what a load of baloney. I can only assume le quirky wild child Gillian Anderson was involved.

Scully deals with her recent cancer diagnosis by hooking up with a man who recently was divorced from his wife and got a tattoo that talks to him and of course "tells" him to kill other women including Scully. Scully is very sexy in this one as she sows her wild oats.
