Vince Gilligan’s second episode written for the show. You may know him as the creator of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
His first submission became the season 2 episode “Soft Light”. He went on to write 30 episodes for the X-Files.
A guy named Robert Patrick Modell can mentally force people to do what he wants. He chooses to force them to kill themselves and others. Nice guy.
This starts a little slow but by the time an FBI agent lights himself on fire, the story is off and running and never slows. This is very intense television. It also contains some incredible acting by Gillian Anderson. She is always so good. The final scene is suspenseful and the final moment with Scully and Mulder holding hands and turning their backs on such an amazing case is one of the finest moments in the entire series.
Secondary characters in this episode: Robert Patrick Modell
Mulder was so hot in this episode
One of the best episodes of television I have ever watched. The suspense the final scene is just incredible.
Mulder: "I'm a smart detective, i'll just go in there with no weapon and no plan"
A good but not great episode. It's basically a show off from the writer about how they can write a good villain, but not smart detectives or catching of the villain.
An entertaining episode featuring a tense telephone call scene scripted by a three-year-old who fell and bonked their noggin. If you've seen the scene in question and need to ask, "why?" I've a bridge for sale that I'd like to talk to you about. It's a beautiful bright blue bridge. A shade of blue known as cerulean. You'd like to buy it. Buying this bridge will make your dreams come true. It's a bridge to your dreams. What's your account number? We can get this deal going. It's a steal.
