Well, this is certainly a dark story. In fact, I'd call it downright depressing. I could not believe that it ended the way that it did, especially given the "softness" of the majority of '80s TZs. I wouldn't call it a twist, but it was unexpected.

A beautiful, haunting, emotional episode. I love moral dilemmas, and there's one here throughout the whole episode. The ending is sad, but at least emotional, and follows through on the dilemma.
I like to imagine that after this mission or soon after, the guy went back to earth and successfully campaigned to strengthen the regulations on security to not allow stowaways on ships, and also to increase emergency fuel/supplies on ships in case of unforseen circumstances.
