The Office 2001

I’ve tried to get into The Office US in the past. I never really got why people loved that show so much. Still really don’t. However, this was some really funny stuff. To me The Office US is basically just another NBC sitcom. This series really nails the mockumentary style. It works so well because all of the characters don’t feel like exaggerated caricatures. The show is also extremely cringe-inducing, but in the best way possible. By the end of many episodes I was in tears. The Christmas Special was also really great, it worked so perfectly as a bookend to the series. Definitely worth checking out.

Was alright, don't really see why it's so popular

One of, if not the funniest show of all time. Have watched each episode over and over again and still makes me laugh out loud. No other comedy has ever been able to mix laughter and cringe both at the same time, which makes this so amazing. I learned that they made a US version and found it very funny, but they couldn’t create the same spectacular cringe factor that the U.K. version possessed.

Usually I like Ricky and his style of humor. I love "Extras" but I really struggled through this one. I only finished it because there are only 6 hours in total without the Christmas Special.
It had its moments but in an attempt to make this look like they are doing kind of a documentary on the office staff it feels stiff and studied. Characters are one-dimensional and there is almost no developement. Personally I can`t figure out why this is so highly praised.

I've never really been a fan of Ricky Gervais, but thought I had to give the original a go. I've no idea how this got picked up to be a global franchise, although clearly others saw a potential that Gervais and Merchant didn't quite pull off. [spoiler] Dawn and Tim have no chemistry at all, other than "we like each other and that's it" - Dawn and Lee have been together 7 years by the end of the show and at no point does Dawn seem to even like him. How did Brent get into that position? Why was he even considered for a promotion?! (at least Michael Scott gets shown to be great salesperson and has some people/ leadership skills. Why on earth did that motivational speech company want Brent? What is the point of the 26 background characters? Does any one of them offer anything? So many questions, but I'm glad that for once the US took a British show and made it better

British people are very funny

It's funny in places, I prefer the American one more surprisingly.

The man who put a smile on the face of everyone he met.
Top 10 shows of all time, I feel sorry for anybody who doesn't get it. This rewatch made me realise how much Nathan Fielder borrowed from this.
S1 is about the life of the ordinary, S2 is about manipulating authenticity and the Christmas special is about loneliness. This show gets better with time AND gets better with every watch. David Brent is a warning for any lost men, so it's extra sad that Ricky Gervais unironically became him in real life :(

I usually like British humor but this was not funny. Way inferior to the US version

The American version is way better. Couldn't get through the first episode before packing it in.
